Another Article About Camming...
I think this one might be pretty good,** and at least somewhat realistic and informative about what we do, but I'd love to hear what you ladies have to say. For once, I feel like they put more emphasis on why camming is beneficial to customers that want to get off, rather than just selling ladies on what an amazingly easy, high-profit job it is.

**Except... they used this guy as one of their sources: "Ron Lee, an affiliate marketer with a background in dating sites, and the key organizer of the inaugural Adult Webcam Super Conference and Expo taking place in Las Vegas this month." Wasn't he that extremely sketchy guy from awhile back? The one that listed a ton of models as attending without consulting them, and tried to steal content from SarahTime? Even if he's not the same person, some of his comments are vaguely douchy:
~ "The value of [Internet] traffic is worth more than the value of the models." Um... We all know the value of quality traffic, but you can't compare it to models' value. They go together, and both are worthless without the other. A site without traffic and a site without models are equally useless.
~ "I think it's important at the end of the day to share the value - the true value - of the users with the cam models and to get the models to be more active in the business side of the industry." To me, this sounds like a guy who is a little butthurt that he doesn't feel sufficiently "appreciated" as a customer or a conference organizer. It gives me the feeling that he thinks we don't bend over backwards quite far enough on cam, and we didn't all rush to blow him in gratitude for setting up his conference, but that's surely just because we're ignorant little sluts that don't understand business and couldn't figure it out without him.

I love Sage. Smartest, and kindess studio manager/cam girl I have ever met.
She interviewed me on her podcast.
Hello awesome new traffic brought to my SM chat room because of it! Thanks Sage.:-*
Re: Another Article About Camming...
The photo of Jeze Bell is very nice photographically but, in reality she would never get away with that kind of lighting on cam. Just saying.
I was also thinking that those Sin City cam rooms look cute but do they get sanitized? Also, I just learned that using puppy pads would be the best surface to squirt on! That's actually quite brilliant.

Oh, I just noticed that Sage Montana got the award for Best BBW Cam model/Streamate. So, congrats to her on that also.

Enjoyed the article.
Yeh, puppy pads are perfect for protecting upholstery because they're almost exactly the size of an office chair seat =)
Tend to slip around though. Because they're ugly, I throw my towel over it.
I read the quote by Lee, about the value of traffic, it possibly meant the value of traffic in building a fan base and loyal following. But I won't know for sure that's what was meant because I didn't attend the seminar.
The article aligns with my belief (and others) that the new wave of successful camming is creating a personal connection with guys, rather than 'generic' shows which don't connect personally to the customer. Doing so requires a bit more effort documenting customers desires or habits once we're offline, which does make camming less spontaneous for us models. Less spontaneity means camming feels more like work/business =p As it said in the article (paraphrasing), still photos & recorded videos don't satisfy a guys need for being acknowledged & connected with individually. So I thought the quote meant models need to recognize business trends, specifically trends in the camming industry, etc. Like the importance of effectively 'working' social media, learning business & sales techniques for our free chat, cross promotion/affiliate marketing, etc.
Then again, maybe because that's where my business is focused, building a sense of 'personal connection', that's why my mind went when I read their quote. So, I could be wrong.
I'd love to hear from anyone who attended the professional development and business seminars at the Adult Webcam Conference, January 20-21 at Alexis Park Resort. How was it? What did you get out of it?
PS: Regarding " Wasn't he that extremely sketchy guy from awhile back? The one that listed a ton of models as attending without consulting them,"
It appears he maybe be one of those people who lives by the phrase, "It's Better to Beg for Forgiveness than to Ask for Permission", using models in his promotional material. I HATE that phrase, and that way of thinking!!! Especially in this business, where our privacy, and our reputation are at stake!
Re: Another Article About Camming...
There's an updated Xbiz thread on the subject.
It was funny though...this article used Ron Lee, and the newsweek article used that cammingcon guy, neither of which knew anything about camming by all accounts - they just thought it would be the same thing as a regular porn convention or a way to thinly disguise an affiliate marketing stunt. At least in Ron's case, he was anything from a little manipulative to outright abusive when dealing with models - but he is laughing his way to the bank with affiliate money from that whole stunt so there's that.
In CammingCon's case, they learned their lesson the first year and hired Xbiz PR to clean them up, and by all accounts they got their money's worth from that deal. They are shaping up to be a business owner's convention that might be worth going to.
For the AdultWebCamAwards, they went completely dark after their awards ceremony. Absolutely zero communication on twitter or updates on their website. They also blocked a lot of models that were less than satisfied with the events off the twitter feed. Apparently there were shenanigans with the awards themselves, they only wanted to give them to models in attendance, and even then they gave some to models that weren't even in the running (with eligible models in attendance). You'd think they would have gotten that right.
If any of our models feels the need to pay for these to get a trophy, their exact design was about $30, let us know :)
