"Webcam Boys" - BBC3 last night, on iPlayer now
Just a heads up that there was a programme on BBC3 last night called "Webcam Boys", if anyone's interested in watching it's probably on iPlayer now. There was quite a heavy AdultWork presence, alongside a couple of flashes of Cam4 and Streamate and some Skype (sounds) activity.
One of the guys also started escorting but then gave up on the sex industry all together as he wasn't making enough money to support his family. If you watch the programme you'll see that he spent a LOT of time entertaining TWs who phoned to enquire about his services (aka: having a free wank).
And a classic (not) line from the voice over man: the two friends earn so much from camming "that they haven't had to hold down a proper job" (since X years ago). And yes, the voice over DOES put THAT emphasis on proper.
Anyway. Look forward to even more cam site sign-ups, alongside lots more guys contacting you to do "shared content" when they realise it's not all easy money.

I really wish they would stop making these documentaries :/
Just saw that on iPlayer myself, planning to watch it after I finish watching this horribly nerve-wracking docu-drama about a hypothetical 3rd world war. Why not continue the misery???

Less than a minute in: "If you're up for it, getting your kit off can be a quick way to make money"
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Re: "Webcam Boys" - BBC3 last night, on iPlayer now
£800 or maybe more in a day...hmm! So why do guys hang around in my free chat and email me to appear in my movies? £30 or £40 just to show their feet.
Damn, I should do this...oh wait!

Re: "Webcam Boys" - BBC3 last night, on iPlayer now
Are these documentaries a paid promotion for the sites? I just can't figure out why all the ones I've seen so far, make it seem like such easy money. Why don't they show a realistic one? Show the bs we put up with...show the hours that go by where you make just a few dollars....etc.
Maybe there's some shows that have done this but I haven't seen them.

I don't consider camboys to be competition unless more than 90% of the male population becomes bisexual or gay.

Re: "Webcam Boys" - BBC3 last night, on iPlayer now
Girls will watch and assume they can make more than the boys.

Re: "Webcam Boys" - BBC3 last night, on iPlayer now
I think it was on mycamgirl.net where stats say the majority of newbie cam girls try camming out for 2 weeks, if they don't hit it big, they quit. Most are in their twenties and these days with our ADHD culture and Millennials who can't tolerate working a bit harder to make money, well, it's the older gals who have an advantage. I'm not generalizing all girls in their twenties as impatient, intolerant Millennials but hey, if the stats are in my favor, then I'm focusing on the positives!

That doesn't happen on AW unfortunately.

Re: "Webcam Boys" - BBC3 last night, on iPlayer now
If you're not in the UK you can't watch it. Here's their channel and there's a 3 minute long preview of it.
There's other short videos of interviews with sex workers there too.
I did feel really weird looking for "webcam boys". I am probably on a list now.

Re: "Webcam Boys" - BBC3 last night, on iPlayer now
I am probably the odd one out on this but I love when they do these kinds of documentaries.
Yes, please. Tell women and men that they will make millions for no effort at all.....that way they will be more likely to quit right away when their expectations do not meet up with reality. More money for us!
I mean can you imagine if they actually did a documentary that showed people making a reasonable amount of money? Then we'd have a bunch of reasonable people who go into this job with reasonable expectations.....then we'd all really be screwed. ;)

Re: "Webcam Boys" - BBC3 last night, on iPlayer now
^^^I like them too. No matter how cheesy as long as the film quality is good and the actors are hot. I was pissed it said only viewable to those in UK..........

Re: "Webcam Boys" - BBC3 last night, on iPlayer now
I have it qued up to watch in the day when I have time. I got hola unblocker so I could watch it .
I don't care who makes these documentaries because I know it doesn't affect me at all. even when I was interview for outtv documentaries about camming.
They interviewed me then couple months later documentary was launched. the people producing it have their own story agenda.
and if you are good at marketing and branding yourself doesn't matter what documentary comes out it really doesn't affect your business.
I am taking pages from the book science of getting rich there is enough to go around for everyone.

Re: "Webcam Boys" - BBC3 last night, on iPlayer now
Unfortunately it does affect us, especially on aw. It's a nice myth that most don't stick at it, unfortunately many do. These programs directly cause more signups while at the same time not causing an increase in actual customers. Camboys aren't competition of course, but the thousands of girls who have now also watched this are. Im secure in what i do, im always busy when im working, but i have felt the effects of this over the last 3 years since these documentaries started. They are the scourge of the uk webcam industry.

Re: "Webcam Boys" - BBC3 last night, on iPlayer now
i had dabbled with camming, on a free swingers site when me and the mr were drunk a few times. I had an aw account from when i was looking at getting a stripper for an ex boss. I had never even looked at the webcam part on aw before.
Then i saw a bbc documentary about webcam girls. It didnt make me think i could make a fortune but it did make me realise that you didnt have o be a 7ft bleached blonde busty girl to do it, which id always just kind of assumed that as I dont have a porn star look it wasnt for me.
Ive so far stuck at this for a year (cammiversary very soon) and while i think i did a lot of research before hand so there were no massive shocks and I was well prepared, i am very much aware that I am one of these people, and yes, I HAVE taken earnings away from existing girls. While ive not made millions I have done ok, even through the AW VAT debacle and technical problems and dwindling traffic, ive recently found my niche a bit better and rarely go on aw now, really just to catch up with regs. Just wanted to give the other sides view :p

Re: "Webcam Boys" - BBC3 last night, on iPlayer now
The biggest influx of girls to AW I noticed was after the programme on phone chat...when the girls realised that most cannot make a mint from phone chatting, they went into webcam, and stayed. When I started in 2011 there would be 3 pages of girls online during the day, now there are 5, and I can see that the same number of girls are in paid as there used to be. The new girls tend to stay because the employment situation in the UK is dire, and traffic is not keeping up with the numbers joining.

Re: "Webcam Boys" - BBC3 last night, on iPlayer now
Camming will not die, it will change. With all the VR going on, it is only a matter of time before VR camming takes over. It is better to focus on staying up to date with the latest technology to up on your game. The girls who have no clue what Oculus Rift is, or haptics etc. will fall by the wayside. I am personally kind of amazed that so many of us believe cam is dying. How can that ever be true with all the innovation going on? Don't believe me? Just watch a few CES videos on YouTube from this year and all your doubts about camming will disappear. We are right in the thick of the big transition and porn is only going to get more interactive. Truly savvy models are in short supply. The money will be big for us who know keep up to date and fresh on technology.

Re: "Webcam Boys" - BBC3 last night, on iPlayer now
I don't think camming itself is dying, but perhaps camming as we currently know it is dying. It's certainly going to evolve pretty quickly once everyone can afford 3D cams and screens, then there's VR and animated sex dolls, it's just a matter of time before actual real life (yet) VIRTUAL sex via the internet is available to everyone and you can immerse yourself in virtual porn and have 'physical' affairs and relationships without leaving your home.

Re: "Webcam Boys" - BBC3 last night, on iPlayer now
I dont think camming is dying, far from it... i tbink EVERYONE is getting in on it. As opposed to a few thousand girls sharing in a nice big lucrative pot, there are now millions and set to increase even more. As i said before this may not affect other sites so much, but it will certainly affect aw.

I want a 7-foot tall 3D dragon dominatrix avatar with a massive virtual schlong, to terrify all the loser boys ;)

Re: "Webcam Boys" - BBC3 last night, on iPlayer now
This doc was a laugh, loved that the cam-boy who had just started ended up letting a man hire him 2 weeks in to strip off, rub his body all over him and wank. How naive.
That dice game idea inspired me though. I've been needing some games/excitement in my room for a while. Now it can happen!
