Re: Tech savy Streamate models PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP! I do not know what to do
Or if you need cheap look at a Amd desktop. You will have to build it yourself but its low hundreds rather than high hundreds. Windows 10 and direct x12 means amd are performing better than ever. I just use a overclocked athlon x4 860k. 3.7gig stock 4.5/4.7 oc. I make use of ssd and 16gb of hyperfuryx 1886mhz. I also dont have iTunes and stuff running in the background. You can use msconfig.exe. And some Google to learn which ones you can turn off at start up to get more from your processor. If you have a load of hdd space create a decent size pagefile. I am getting the hubbie to write up a spec for as cheap as it can be full pc build to help others get access to a machine thats perfectly fine for streaming.

Also look at getting rid of windows defender and replace with avg free and adaware free. Zonelabs firewall rather than the windows one. Just let them scan once installed then lets the resident shield run.

The 6th generation i7 processors have additional encoding on the chipset to handle the new 3d and next gen smartcams. To shop for this, you need to look for the 4 digit code after the processor number. Note this is NOT a hard requirement, you may be able to get away with previous versions - you just won't have the native encoding that enables all the new stuff to work smoothly.
For example: i7-6700k, the "6" is the generation number, you want that to be 6 or over. If you're serious about your camming, avoid laptops (even "gaming laptops") like the plague.
I'm getting a laptop for now, that does have a 6th gen i7 processor...It was happily a gift, but now I'm concerned that I'll only be able to use it for a few months...I can't currently afford a $2.5k desktop build...will a 6th gen laptop hold?

You should be ok. The issue with laptops is overheating when under stress and difficulty in expanding it when new odd requirements pop up (like USB 3.0 is a quick $15 fix for a desktop, but will pretty much require a replacement laptop). People are also more tempted to wifi on a laptop.

AMD processors may have the raw horsepower, but they don't come with all the little extra instruction sets specifically geared for video processing. The Razer people we talked to said that the Intel chips are pretty much requirements going forward for the 3d and other live video features.

Re: Tech savy Streamate models PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP! I do not know what to do
Yet the tech people are raving about amd and directx12 being better for oculas 3d and 4k rather than Intel and nvida. Its going to be interesting to see how it plays out especially with amd zen which is going to have upto 32cores which the cern collider techs has accidentally leaked. to be fair though it shouldnt require much more as mine can stream on twitch 1080p and run this game the hubbie plays online without issue. It might come down to actual 64-bit software rather than 32-bit or x86. but if you buy a skylake i7 you should rest assured its going to last a while.

Selenasecret, you are officially my new camgirl crush! Xoxo. Dayam!

Re: Tech savy Streamate models PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP! I do not know what to do
If you ever have trouble sleeping get my husband to talk to you about tech. You will be out like a light lol. He likes both Amd and Intel and NVidia. But he likes all the actual bechmark stuff as well as all the politics behind the scenes stuff of the chip world. Amds contracts with Sony and Microsoft are really going to pay off for the consumers and eairly benchmarks in directx12 are showing massive speed gains for all the multicore stuff as its finally unlocked. However games have millions in Dev spent on them and cant effective use all 4cores and 16gig of ram. 2 fast cores out perform 4cores as hypertreading isnt really a reality yet. How much do we really think is spend on these encoders compared to a tripple A game.

Re: Tech savy Streamate models PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP! I do not know what to do
Hi there.. not trying to threadjack but I am also in need of a tech savy camgirl pleaseeeeeeee. I have not been camming for about six months due to health issues. I purchased a brand new i7 gaming laptop with alot of ram and have comcast internet with fast speeds I use a logitech 920 cam. Here is my issue.. I am unable to use the hd720 setting on the encoder. I have no idea why. My bitrate keeps adjusting all over the place as as having issues with fps skipping around. I tried using sm broadcaster and my pic is very pix elated and the fps blinks red because the frames are dropping low. When i cam i am having to use non 720 settings so my placement is awful. Does anyone know what could be causing this? Support is useless and I am desperate. Thanks soooo much in advance. ps I do have alot of light

Re: Tech savy Streamate models PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP! I do not know what to do
Run the calibration and ensure auto adjust is off. Make sure your cam area is set up as you would use it with the lights etc. Wiggle about while its calibrates. So the cam has movement to track. Before you calibrate. Set everything to auto on the logitech software. Then turn off everything from auto apart from auto focus. Then run the calibrate.

Re: Tech savy Streamate models PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP! I do not know what to do
Check also all your background stuff. Google how to use msconfig.exe. I literally have nothing but chrome avg adaware zonelabs and SM running when I cam
I use avg and adaware so no windows defender is running for me. Windows defender is very cpu heavy and could be robbing your pc of resource. Also make sure your logitec is set to 720p. Or its viewing 1080p to the cpu which the pc has to decode to only recode back to 720p for the stream.

I'll definitely be hard wiring my connection. Rookie question though, would buying a fan stand and some extra cooling stuff solve the heating and performance issues?
-
Re: Tech savy Streamate models PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP! I do not know what to do
A laptop cooler will help. The more cold air the better. Ideally find one shaped that has a fan under the heat spots.

Re: Tech savy Streamate models PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP! I do not know what to do
I second that you could always purchase a Cool Master, which has been useful since my old laptop only has one fan.

Re: Tech savy Streamate models PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP! I do not know what to do
I posted this elsewhere, but I think it might be more appropriate in this thread.
Could someone that knows about tech stuff take a look at this computer and tell me if there's any reason it wouldn't be ok for camming? A friend recommended it. http://www.dell.com/us/p/alienware-x...d?oc=dpcwxy03h
I would likely be using it for gaming, too, so the gaming bits aren't a total waste. I'm not that tech savvy though, so when I look at this, my reaction is "It seems good to me...? Also, look, there are pretty lights, and you can change the colors!" LOL!
-
Re: Tech savy Streamate models PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP! I do not know what to do
Well its a beast. alienware make great machines. The only sticking point is do you need 4gb of gddr graphics power. when the system only had 8gb of ram. that machine is designed to throw polygons around at screen at almost crazy resolutions. Do they do a lower graphics set up with more ram like 16gb?
Are you really going to be playing Doom 4 on it?

Yes my husband is that boring....

Re: Tech savy Streamate models PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP! I do not know what to do
Thanks so much for taking the time to try and help me. It is much appreciated. I have been going thru each item that you suggested and the only problem that I am having so far is that I'm not to sure there is a way to set my Logitech 920 to 720p or anything. I dont see a part of the software that would allow me to go in and change that. Even inside the web controller there is no such option. I think its just whatever it is, it is... Or I just cant find where it is that you can go in and set that. I'm not sure :(
Internet people are coming tomorrow to check the lines. Thanks again !

Re: Tech savy Streamate models PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP! I do not know what to do
OK
Step 1. Open logitec software and click quick capture http://i1077.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5am7bzmr.png
Step2. click video in the bottom left http://i1077.photobucket.com/albums/...psojhlc1xz.png
Step3 change resolution http://i1077.photobucket.com/albums/...psyokt0pou.png
Step4 click preferences at the top then quick capture again to find the mic control
http://i1077.photobucket.com/albums/...psrbiebbkh.png
Step5 removing all the auto settings for the camera after you have used auto to get a decent picture. The auto setting messes up your fps
http://i1077.photobucket.com/albums/...psuaackzav.png
Step 6. White ballance and stuff
http://i1077.photobucket.com/albums/...psd7h0e8vj.png
This should help reduce the load on the cam. And the load on the cpu having to decode a 1080p picture and recode back to 720p. SM encoder doesnt use the stream direct from the cam so there is cpu effort and memory useage involved. Plus the cam itself struggles a bit with auto settings.
You do need to set your own picture settings. So use auto for the cam to do these settings and then turn off the auto bits. This is down to you to sort and the settings above to reduce the load on the camera are for you to find out.

You will make a lot of money with that. By the time it won't work for you, you can easily afford to replace it, if you work. I wouldn't spend more than $200 to $400 on a desktop.

Exactly! A fast single core speed is much more important than than a slow multi core speed. And AMD is a lower price option that can be as good or better than Intel depending on your budget.
And pre built AMD's are just as available as Intel systems, you don't need to build your own.

Re: Tech savy Streamate models PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP! I do not know what to do
Just dont go for the apu range of chips with amd. Always have a graphics card. Even a cheap ddr3 1gb can display 2 screens at 1080p. Onboard graphics always have an impact no matter how fast the chip. And dont write off a few case fans. One at the front sucking cool air in. And 1 sucking warm air out makes a difference.

So these are the specs of my new laptop. When I download the SM broadcaster it installs, asks if I want to launch, I select yes and then....nothing actually happens. I just sit there seeing the icon on my desktop and taskbar. When I reboot and try again to double click an icon, nothing happens. I feel like theres got to be a setting or an update on my laptop I'm not aware of. Any ideas?

Re: Tech savy Streamate models PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP! I do not know what to do
Maybe you will need to turn off your fire wall? When I first installed the broadcaster windows defender popped up. It said it was an unknown publisher. But once I approved it everything was okay. Are your security settings set to automatically block unknown software instead of asking you for permission? That's all I got

Ah yes, I had the same thing happening to me in win10.
Turn off your antivirus and try again. That solved for me.

Re: Tech savy Streamate models PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP! I do not know what to do
Try avg free and adaware. Just run the first scans and they dont take alot of cpu. Obviously run once a week. But the resident Shields on them should just scan any incoming files.
