windows 8 vs windows 10 camming specific
Ive used both for camming, ive had issues with both and certain things work well with both.
Im full of cold and about to order a new laptop and cant decide to go for 8 or 10 pre installed. I know you can upgrade from 8 but ive been told that it generally runs smoother if it was installed from the start.
Im so far thinking ill get win10 can anyone think of anything i may not have considered?
x
thanks in advance *achoo*
Re: windows 8 vs windows 10 camming specific
Go for Windows 10 64-bit. Windows 8 is faster than 10 but with 10 you should get years out of your machine as directx12 is due out.
Re: windows 8 vs windows 10 camming specific
thank you, i think i know to stick to 10 really, im just all fuzzy headed and over thinking everything
Re: windows 8 vs windows 10 camming specific
Yeah either one is fast but Microsoft will drop support for 8 as fast as they can. Also get the windows on a ssd. I use a amd built pc 4.5gig and 16gig of ram windows sits on a ssd and it boots in under 5 seconds and a full reboot I can be back on cam in 20 seconds just made sure you have a normal hdd for storage and programes
Re: windows 8 vs windows 10 camming specific
im going for a seagate hybrid as i cant afford a full ssd so i felt this was the best compromise
Re: windows 8 vs windows 10 camming specific
Hybrid drives arw Basically a ssd chip as the buffer and a normal hdd to take the data this will still be quicker than a normal drive

you wanna be my personal tech support? Lol I am having cookie issues with chrome. IDK what I did (probably a setting I changed in my hysterics when I had a virus a few days ago) but the cookies on SM absolutely will not remember my SM settings when I go to broadcast, and I can't get the broadcaster on cams.com to load at all. It works fine on explorer tho. I did a reset my settings, keep tiddling around with my cookie settings but still having the same issue. I mean I can still cam and all it's just a pain in the ass.
Also about to upgrade my laptop in a few days. Is the SSD really worth the extra $250 it's going to cost for an otherwise exactly same specs laptop? It's fine it just means I'm going to have to wait an extra few days to have it.
Re: windows 8 vs windows 10 camming specific
Ssd is really fast however. If your writing to it constantly. Then its not so great. They can only write so many times. Its always best to have 1 ssd and 1 hdd. However hybrid drives are a nice inbetween it depends on how big that chip is. I know not all laptops support a master and slave drive. Desktop wouldnt have been an issue.
Give Firefox a go but uninstall chrome fully. If Firefox is working then reinstall chrome fresh but never import any settings from another browser.
Also avg and adaware are free and you can turn off windows defender which bogs the pc down. Avg should check anything incoming with its resident shield and alert you. However try Firefox first.

Oh you can clone your drive. And get a ssd off amazon cheaper. Samsung drives are really good. So if you gwt one from Amazon and clone your drive. Just take old one out and pop in new. under £50 upgrade then
Re: windows 8 vs windows 10 camming specific
When I had my older Toshiba laptop with Windows 8, I remember that the free upgrade to Windows 10 took FOREVER. I remember I had planned to log onto MyFreeCams that night, and was dozing off waiting for the upgrade to finish. Lol. I'm glad my new laptop already has Windows 10 on it. I love Windows 10, by the way. I couldn't stand Windows 8.
Re: windows 8 vs windows 10 camming specific
Sorry if this is the wrong thread to post, but does anyone know if the SM Broadcaster beta works on Windows 10, or should I stick with Windows 7? Thanks!
Re: windows 8 vs windows 10 camming specific
For the record the average life of an SSD is somewhere between 8 and 10 years, which is even more than a regular drive.
Re: windows 8 vs windows 10 camming specific
I use sm broadcaster and Windows 10 fine right now :)
Re: windows 8 vs windows 10 camming specific
Gamers claim 3 years for ssd. Pagefiles are not good to have on them as the volume of write data on them is immensely high. When they first came out they would last a year at most. But they have improved the tech. Personally I just use mine for the os and use a standard hdd for programs and my pagefile taking the use of the ssd away as much as possible. It all depends on how much you use the drive. And most laptops dont have a duel drive option so the windows pagefile is sat there eating away at its limited number of read writes.
And never think oh I got all this ram I can do away with pagefile. If anything use excess ram to make a ram drive for tje pagefile.
