Re: Computer Specifications
When it comes to SM I think its best to have the most up to date equipment available. Plus its comforting to know that certain issues aren't on your end because you know you have all that is required. Support already gives copy and paste answers, I think it would be annoying to report an issue to them and they respond with you need an i7.
Birate? I know that if your lighting isn't totally on point that it can cause issues with the birate.
Re: Computer Specifications
I5. I7. Or fx4350(4core) fx6300 (6core) fx8350 (8 core) fx8370 or fx9590 (but you need a watercooler as its a 220w 8core 5gig monster that turbos to 5.8gig)
Always 8gb min ram 1866mhz is fine or 16gb 1866mhz or 2400mhz if your using onboard graphics
Ssd drive for the windows and at least a 1tb hdd for storage.
Graphics. Ddr3 is fine for display. Gddr5 is great for games.
Re: Computer Specifications
Your bit rate is linked to isp speed. I use 3200kbps with a 10meg upload. Upload matters more than download.
Re: Computer Specifications
Guess I need to upgrade my internet one of these days, my upload speed is nowhere near that!
Re: Computer Specifications
Download the ookla app and test your speed. If you have 2mbs up you should be fine. support only say i7 because its an easy answer. 32-bit systems only work with 4gb of ram. And if you have 8gb of ram the dump file fits in there as well. Loads of different specs of pc work fine with 720p. I only use an athlon x4 860k. And runs fine with the encoder. Also try a cable from the router to the computer if your WiFi something might be causing an issue with the signal.
Re: Computer Specifications
Hmmmmm ok... it must be my computer then because I have an upload speed of 10mbps and I am always ethernet wired to my modem ! I looked into a gaming computer yesterday and I think I'm going to go ahead and purchase it. It has a quad core i7 16 gigs of ram 4.00 GHz a 1tb HDD and some other stuff that made the computer store guy jealous ah hahaha!! One other thing... has anyone upgraded to windows 10? what has your experience been like? Thanks for your help :D
Re: Computer Specifications
Don't go out and buy a new computer for bitrate. Won't fix shit, at least when you're talking a fairly new i5 versus a fairly new/brand new i7.
What are you using for streaming settings? The FMLE (adobe encoder) or the SMBroadcaster? What do you have your bitrate set to in your encoder?
My upload speed is 10-15 mpbs (when my ISP behaves, lol) and my bitrate is set to 2000-2500 in the encoder. SM still shows me as only streaming at 1300 bitrate. It's the system. Your upload speed + what you set your encoder to is going to make the biggest difference. Improved lighting can also help, as mentioned above. All much cheaper fixes than a new computer.
And I use an i5 computer, so I can vouch for it not mattering much.
Re: Computer Specifications
Learn how to use msconfig.exe. Turn off services like iTunes and stuff. I literally have antivirus firewall and the encoder running. Thats it. And I just use a amd athlon
When you run the calibration on the encoder change the setting to 720. Dont use the 862. That should help you get a better encode. Your I5 prob has alot of background stuff on it. You install a program and the developer thinks you want it to load aa fast as possible. and pop a background process in the task bar. Turning them off can free up a ton of cpu power
Re: Computer Specifications
Hey ladies,
I tried my computer to use SMbroadcast and it won't even load properly on my computer :( I tried it on my boyfriends computer (which is a slightly stronger i5) and it loaded and then used all of his CPU resources to run the program. When I am camming I don't use ANYTHING!! just the adobe encoder and the site itself. My bitrate is horrifying most of the time LOL!! not very smooth quality at all. I have tried numerous things to get my streaming quality better, guys just leave my room cuz they know my quality is bad. Otherwise I would be making my quota and at the end of the day a new computer is in order. I plan on moving my career over to full time camming within the year so I really need to get a desktop that I can upgrade when needed. My laptop cannot be upgraded so within a year or so it's going to absolutely useless anyways lol
Thanks again for all your help it is really greatly appreciated :D
Re: Computer Specifications
Did you check background tasks? ITunes photo programs and make sure all off SM encoder will load on a 10yr old core duo 2 cpu so it sounds like an actual issue not just an under powered pc
Re: Computer Specifications
The volume of ram seams more a factor. do you have decent 8gb of at least 1866mhz. That is not being used for graphics?
Re: Computer Specifications
Just a quick update... i bought a new computer lol. Much better!!!! Thanks for all your help :D
Re: Computer Specifications
I don't even know what to think anymore when it comes to laptop specs, because after being positive I was making the right decision in purchasing this new laptop I have now (it sounded amazing), it turns out that I'm very limited with what I can do while broadcasting on ImLive. If I try watching a video on a different website, for example, it would make my video on ImLive lag so much. And this is a brand new laptop with a 6th generation i7 processor. Totally confused. I don't know how some of you ladies can splitcam on multiple sites with your computers, yet my new computer would just cause me to lag horribly on ImLive if I dare try to watch YouTube or something. :(
Re: Computer Specifications
Change the power setting in control panel or right click the battery icon in the task bar and select power options. Its prob set to balanced. change to full power

You were right. It was on "Balanced (Recommended)." There isn't an option that says "Full power." It says "High performance." Is that what you mean? I now have it set to "High performance." Thanks!
Re: Computer Specifications
Hubbies waffle actually is starting to rub off on me.
Every desktop and laptop have this plan setting. its always worth making sure desktop or pc is set to high performance mode.

This is the best lifehack I've ever read on this site. Trying this tonight!
For anyone out there still curious about laptops, I was running Streamate on my Macbook Air (4GB, i5) and it was just okay before they did the whole "hey stream 1280x720 now for better placement!". My laptop could not do that so I was pulling out hair trying to get $50 any given day.
Bought a secondhand, company clearout Dell off eBay for $169 USD, (8GB, 3rd Gen i7). Holy hot damn, sooooo much better. Can stream reliably in 1280x720 most of the time. Can have a separate tab open! Changed my cam life. Now I'm gonna do the power thing Selena suggested and see if I can get it to operate even better.
Re: Computer Specifications
I use a £200 desktop the hubbie built. He done things to it that I get. Just some of the stuff is hard to follow as he just chats away. Like everyone knows this stuff. If anything camming has made me appreciate his intelligence more but he must never find that out.

Thank you for reminding me of this! I've had this setting turned on before but forgot about it after I wiped my computer and started over when I made the jump to Windows 10.
Re: Computer Specifications
All it does is disable how much power is being used. My old duo core2. Was only going up to 2.7gig on the cpu. High performance just allowed it to go to 3gig and made it a bit more responsive.
