Utah Proposes Bill to Make Porn a 'Public Health Crisis'
So this happened like last month and I think it's worth bringing up here.

<snip>Things could get really hard for porn fans in Utah.
A Utah state senator is taking a stand against pornography, blaming skin flicks for creating a “sexually toxic environment,” increasing the demand for prostitution and ruining families.
Sen. Todd Weiler introduced his legislation on Friday, asking that the state recognize that porn is creating a public health hazard. He called for a reform to take on the “pornography epidemic that is harming the citizens of Utah and the nation.”</snip>

Re: Utah Proposes Bill to Make Porn a 'Public Health Crisis'
Wow, I've never read a more useless bill in my life. And I'm counting the fact that I know of states that have passed laws saying you can't buy tooth paste and a toothbrush in the same store on a Sunday.
So I read the proposal. Quite literally does nothing but designate porn with a fancy title (here, 'public health crisis'), which does not place any restrictions on viewing it whatsoever. Senator who proposed it has openly admitted he's not trying to ban anything--porn, masturbation, etc. State senate committee in Utah goes, 'ok, whatever, passed' and life has continued onwards with Utah maintaining the equally useless designation of 'most google searches for porn in the nation by state.'
It's kind of amazing to read. Senator, paraphrased from various articles, with asides by Issa: porn is bad. Kids can see it and get twisted ideas about sex. Women get abused and ruined. Families get torn apart. Men are so addicted that it's worse than kicking a cocaine habit. Porn on the internet is anonymous. People in Utah watch so much porn online because there are no sex shops or stores in the state and thus it is a cultural issue driving people to look at online porn (yes, ladies, he said that). No, no, I'm not saying we need more sex shops. *pause* Ok, those might be nice. Anyway! People need to be educated! People need help! But I'm not trying to ban anything--not porn, not masturbating, oh no!--I'd get voted out since we have the most porn watchers per capita in America and all that. I just want people to know it's a problem. I'm not proposing a solution. And my reasons for it being a problem mostly amount to me being an idiot with no grasp of how porn actually works and a desire to blame the Porn Devil for parents who don't monitor internet usage and spouses who don't respect each other and shit like that. I'm just saying. Porn is a problem. So designate it a problem. Even though 'health crisis' isn't real accurate or related or...look, my point is I don't like porn (even though I jack off to it) (mostly because I spent a lot of money on it once and my wife caught me and I promised to publicly repent) (and some bitch took a lot of money from me and how dare she charge so much for her pathetic services!) (and Issa is just being rude with these totally made up asides now) and so we need to do something by proposing a useless bill! I have now filled the entire 3 minute presentation speech time. Please vote yes on my bill.
*Utah senate committee, distracted by jerking off on their phones under the tables, votes yes*
The end!

Re: Utah Proposes Bill to Make Porn a 'Public Health Crisis'
Here they go. Trying to legislate morality again. Looks like we might be headed to Comstock laws part II.

Re: Utah Proposes Bill to Make Porn a 'Public Health Crisis'
Even Jesus Christ had an asshole. Holy shit, why would they even attempt to pass something like this? Calling porn a "public health crisis" is like trying to ban all fast food restaurants. Everyone likes it because it's bad for you, doesn't mean you have to go and ban it all.

Re: Utah Proposes Bill to Make Porn a 'Public Health Crisis'
Based on your proposed bill, it's only logical to conclude that Utah needs a fuckton of additional sex education (excluding the kind that has been proven not to work), right Senator?

Re: Utah Proposes Bill to Make Porn a 'Public Health Crisis'
Ahhh, Utah. Where it's totally chill to marry a 14 year-old off to her 60 year-old uncle, but what is really the problem is PORN.

Re: Utah Proposes Bill to Make Porn a 'Public Health Crisis'
Well I do think it sucks there are young men out there who use porn as a sex education tool and there is a ton of sucky, women degrading, and condom less porn.
How can we teach young adults to use condoms and be safe yet 99% of porn is condom-less AND the actors are fucking random strangers.
Let not forget the several porn actors that actually contracted HIV and the numerous actors that catch std's
I like porn and porn actors/actresses but there needs to be some quality control and maybe disclaimers like "young adults: you will see a lot of raw sex with strangers, double penetration, extreme sex, etc but please don't copy what you are about to see, be safe and always wear condoms, and learn your partners body before plowing vaginas, not all vaginas like jackrabbit style fucking or extreme sex"
Yes. Get rid of terrible porn that degrades women and doesn't warn people to practice safe sex but keep the female friendly porn. Dudes can pay webcam ladies to get the custom porn they want.

Re: Utah Proposes Bill to Make Porn a 'Public Health Crisis'
Maybe instead of changing porn, since it's a fantasy already and not real life, there should be better sex ed programs so that people don't learn about sex from porn in the first place.
There are some women who like porn that others view as degrading (such as extreme bdsm etc), so saying it should be gotten rid of as a whole is just silly. Who determines what is and isn't degrading?

Please don't get rid of the porn that degrades women; I'll have nothing to watch! Here's an acronym for ya: YKINMKBYKIOK. A lot of women watch porn that degrades women. A lot of women enjoy being degraded. The problem isn't the porn, the problem is one's immature application of fantasy to reality.

Yeah and they should seek full compensation for their aching hands due to beating their meat sticks too hard.

Re: Utah Proposes Bill to Make Porn a 'Public Health Crisis'
Its as bad as the UK. The bdsm fisting pissing ban killed so many established companies it was stupid.

Re: Utah Proposes Bill to Make Porn a 'Public Health Crisis'
Please don't take away degrading porn. My sadist ass would have nothing to diddle my skittle to.

Speaking of uptight conservative politicians/lawmakers. A Montana rep tried to pass a ban on tight pants last year.
“any device, costume, or covering that gives the appearance of or simulates the genitals, pubic hair, anus region, or pubic hair region” a ban the legislator later told the Billings Gazette could include tight beige garments.
“Yoga pants should be illegal in public anyway,” the bill’s sponsor, Rep. David Moore, added.

Re: Utah Proposes Bill to Make Porn a 'Public Health Crisis'
Utah born and raised here, and I have been nervous about this bill and how it will affect my job for a while now. Granted it doesn't actually change anything, but it does feel like it tries to pave the way for anti porn laws down the road. I remember a few years back when Utah had a "Porn Czar" whose job it was to try and shut down porn in Utah and close sex shops like Blue Boutique. As conservative as Utah is, the majority of the population lives in Salt Lake Valley, which is quite liberal. Mayor Rocky Anderson used to ride a horse in the gay pride parades. The Porn Czar didn't really accomplish anything and was very unpopular among Salt Lake liberals, but the Mormons in public office continue to try and control everything. Restrictive liquor laws, no gambling, and now the old porn debate rears its ugly head. Sex education here is a joke. They pretty much tell you what body parts boys and girls have, and not to have sex until you are married because if you do then you are a chewed up piece of gum nobody wants. As an ex-mormon atheist convert, I went through a lot of guilt and shame for YEARS over my natural sexual curiosity, and still get blacklisted from family members who don't know the half of what I do for a living - just that I drink, smoke, don't believe in god and don't abstain from sex. Sexual deviance is a big thing here, all the repression that is part of the culture, causing people to act out in deviant ways. I remember going from SLC where there is a sex offender on every block, to Portland where there are miles between registered sex offenders.
On that note, my favorite idea for making clips is sacrilegious Mormon girl porn - wearing the garments with a Book of Mormon in hand, consecrated oil for the "laying on of hands." I just may have some residual anger to work out...

advanced sex Ed is usually done, in addition to print textbooks, via video which is borderline porn. And perhaps sex Ed in schools and home could be better.
I'm referring to younger adults who are more immature, impressionable, and risk taking. Maybe you're right, what's extreme for one person is mild for another. I'm just saying for young people new to sex - I personally think being exposed to hardcore graphic extreme sex is just too much right off the bat. Like at least they should do is add disclaimers to the front of the videos so at least you can saw you were warned and any action you take is on you not the porn.
I'm not saying anything against bdsm type porn. It's the porn that's low quality and where the women don't seem like they're really enjoying themselves. Anybody who enjoys making or watching bdsm style porn then more power to you.
I suppose what's degrading to women is subjective to each woman. I am just speaking of porn that depicts women in ways that reinforce something negative - in general - not referring to any specific genre of porn.

Re: Utah Proposes Bill to Make Porn a 'Public Health Crisis'
^^^ the only thing that matters is whether or not the woman (or man, cause there's plenty of porn that degrades men!!) consented to being there and was able to withdraw consent at any time. How degrading the porn is, or how unprofessional the porn looks, is both subjective, irrelevant, and hard to regulate.
I'm a big fan of showing those little interviews with the actresses before the porn begins like kink.com and all those other places do.
I actually know a guy who masturbates to the interviews lol.

Re: Utah Proposes Bill to Make Porn a 'Public Health Crisis'
The porn award shows reward the actors/producers/etc who produce top quality porn. Also there are laws that prohibit porn that is too obscene. So I guess somewhere in between is at the discretion of the people acting in the porn and viewing the porn.
But that still leaves the indiscriminate raw sex that's frequently portrayed in porn. And the line between fantasy and reality is blurred all the time. Behind the scenes actors/actresses are catching STD's (there is a problem with the current method of testing) but young people most likely don't know this and are going to go out and mimic what they just saw (possibly engage in risky sex). How is a young adult supposed to differentiate between a sex Ed type porn and fantasy type porn?
I think porn could be better regulated but someone has to figure out the solution. And I've already proposed one solution.
And I actually like the casting couch part of porn too. It's cool to see people getting started in porn and their enthusiasm for their careers - so I could see why this is arousing for someone like your friend.

Re: Utah Proposes Bill to Make Porn a 'Public Health Crisis'
OMFG!! Who wants to be this uptight prick senator is a customer on every fucking porn site in the world. I would pay a PI to go dig in his background just to prove it. I think it's a case of.."me doth protest too much!"
Assholes like this only deserveto be underneath my SUV tires. I live in NV and I'm thankful everyday I live in this awesome state. There are 3 things that we are about..gambling, drinking and whoring. I do the whoring and drinking and small occasional gambling. I guess I'm a match. I hate driving or traveling thru Utah..no damn alcohol and fucking Jesus freakss..no offense to Mormon cam girls on here. I usually drive around it.

Re: Utah Proposes Bill to Make Porn a 'Public Health Crisis'
I don't know how politics has time for any of this shit. Victimless crimes.

Re: Utah Proposes Bill to Make Porn a 'Public Health Crisis'
This is hilarious......a friend of mine who stripped and now escorts was actually born and raised in Utah and she can attest to every one of these facts. Lmao. She said that's the reason why she took off running as soon as she left high school.
Edit to add she's actually a Mormon and very much into prayer and believes wholeheartedly in the Bible ^_______^

Re: Utah Proposes Bill to Make Porn a 'Public Health Crisis'
Doesn't he understand that prohibition just makes those involved more desired? Ruin families? Cheaters have been cheating and men have dabbled in sex services since the beginning of time. I so wish people would stop trying to police others. Porn. Really? It's usually the big wigs who engage in it the most. I'm sure he has quite the collection. Like that one British Lord who tried banning prostitution not long ago. Got caught with two Asian escorts, panties on his head, and having a bit of the coke up his nose.
