Do I tell my internet provider what I do?
I am sure this has been asked before so I apologize for the repeat question.
I have an internet tech coming out on Sunday to check and see what could be causing my internet issues. (At one apartment it was some kind of dirty lines or something)
I'm wondering if I should let my tech know what I do since my troubles only seem to manifest while I'm streaming. Or should I just say it gives me trouble when I'm trying to skype my mom or something.
Thoughts?

Re: Do I tell my internet provider what I do?
I'm not sure how ISP's work over there but if they're anything like here and your line is a residential one then NO! If you tell them you work online and your account isn't a business one they have every right to terminate it.

Re: Do I tell my internet provider what I do?
NO no need to. Tell them you are into gaming. Or say your boyfriend is if you don't know any games to speak of. Tell them you work for a IT company that requires you to upstream from a virtual desktop. Both explanations takes care of why upload speed and consistency is so important. I would never tell a complete stranger who has my name and address what I do for a living. He could be a perv who hasn't done anything yet. Or he could brag about the camgirl he met over a few beers and tell them your name. Or he could get nosey and look you up and then stalk you on FB or some shit?
-
Re: Do I tell my internet provider what I do?
Yeah, there's no need to specifically say that you're a camgirl. Simply tell them that you need a reliable upload speed. If they ask, you can say you make a lot of video calls and are noticing drops specifically related to that. Point blank, you're paying for a certain upload speed and it's not working after regular trouble shooting on your part. They don't need a shit ton of details of what you're doing.

Re: Do I tell my internet provider what I do?
I agree that it's a bad idea to tell them. There are plenty of work at home jobs that require fast internet streaming -- you could say you are a virtual assistant, you do online tutoring, you are a consultant, etc. Tons of jobs require high quality streaming video.
Telling a local stranger -- someone who knows where you live and can find out your real name -- that you make porn on the internet is just screaming DANGER in big red letters to me.

Re: Do I tell my internet provider what I do?
Thanks guys! That's kind of what I figured. My setup screams camgirl so I'm sure they'll suspect. Even without the dildos and vibrators my room just looks like a cam girl room LOL but either way I'll just say we game a lot which is true my fiance does and I do a lot of skype calls.
Hopefully they can fix it for me because this is freaking terrible! Tonight my upload actually dropped below 1 Mbps... I pay for 15. Definitely not acceptable!

Re: Do I tell my internet provider what I do?
^ You would be surprised. People are stressed and busy and can sometimes barely remember what people TELL THEM , let alone reading someones " story " between the lines ( unless you leave things out and make it obvious ).
-
Re: Do I tell my internet provider what I do?
You'd be surprised at how many people don't even know that camming is a thing.
I chit-chat about upload speeds all the time when I have to call for something else (I always take the opportunity to ask about newer faster speeds after being on hold for 10 hours!!) and they always say, huh, no one ever asks about upload speeds, but they never specifically ask why I need them.

Re: Do I tell my internet provider what I do?
You say nothing but just be your lovely self :)
If you tell him, he'll expect you to start a sexual romp in your home or ask to use the bathroom quite often.... You already know the rest, LOL!

Re: Do I tell my internet provider what I do?
you dont have to say it. you can even say that you are a teacher and you are tutoring ppl on skype and you need a good internet.
damn i have so crappy internet i cant even watch vids on youtube. Like seriously? I pay for internet, my provider claims that they are "leader" maybe they were 20 years ago.

Re: Do I tell my internet provider what I do?
I always tell them that I stream to Twitch for gaming, because that's pretty much the same thing. That will also explain your setup with lights and what not. That way it's easier to explain that when "I'm streaming" my upload is dropping and causing me issues with staying connected or what have you.

Re: Do I tell my internet provider what I do?
Yes...there are literally a million other things that you could tell them. Also with regards to your setup, it does help to change it when outsiders like that come in. I put my photography lights in another room of the house so it looks like I'm actually a photographer that's storing equipment. I also detach my webcam. ISP's can be very finicky about who they service and since sex work is frowned upon, just be safe. Its a hassle to change your room but its worth it.

Re: Do I tell my internet provider what I do?
I used to tell them I do video conference on skype for work! so they understand the upload needs to be flawless

Nope. I don't think it's a good idea to be telling a strange man who knows where you live that you're a cam girl. Just stick with your idea about issues with Skype, or one of the things the ladies above me posted.

Re: Do I tell my internet provider what I do?
Yeah my isp were like what do you mean upload speeds. Hubbie went ape shit with the poor person at the isp. He says he cant complie code and use his virtual desktop to work at home.
As far as set up. In the UK they dont check. Its down to us to do the pc network stuff. They only do the socket. We are limited with what router we can use as well unless they allow it.
You guys get so much better service. As it literally ends at the phone socket.

Exactly! Lol. It's like a light bulb comes on in these guys' heads (with the flashing words "EASY LAY! EASY LAY! EASY LAY!") the minute you tell them you're in the adult industry.

LOL
right? Well my fiance will be home during the appointment so hopefully that wouldn't be a thing.
I'm pretty sure the last tech who came out to my old apartment knew what I did because he kept asking what I do for a living but he said it with a grin on his face. Plus our livingroom is/was set up like a photography studio so he wanted to know what kind of pictures we took.
Anyway, I'll just stick to the gaming thing and the I make a lot of skype calls thing.

This.
Men are dumb pigs and often times if they so much as catch wind of a woman's sexual side or find out she's a sex worker they somehow equate that to us being kinky nymphos who are DTF 24/7.
When I talk to my ISP about any tech issues I say I do conference calls on webcam.

Wow, really? Where do you live? Little House on the Prairie?
Because, where ever it is, I want to move there.

Honestly I'm generally the same way. Everyone knows what I do for a living. I've got some super religious family that I don't tell but I'm sure some of my chatty non-religious family has told them. I'm just worried about things like what one person said... they could force me to pay for a business account even though they don't actually offer any extra services for their "business" accounts. They just charge you extra to call it a business account.

Yeah that's my cover story to my ISP.

I'm thinking that's what I'm going to do because I do have a twitch account and we both game (him more than I) so I can at least demonstrate the upload issues we're having.
Thanks guys! I'm chilling on the third page of streamate drinking and feeling like shit about my connection but hopefully after Sunday morning when the tech comes I'll be happily back on the first page making money! :-)
