The joys of having a child.
Does anyone have tips (diet, exercise etc etc.) for how to get rid of "mom belly". I can't tell if it's extra fat or sagging skin or what. By no means am I a big girl, I'm super petite how ever when I lean over I have that loose tummy look.
Tips and tricks would be appreciated, Thank you!
p.s. tummy tuck is not an option due to financial reasons, and the fact that it's not an extreme situation, pretty minor.
Re: The joys of having a child.
Are you wearing a girdle? Some women wear them soon after birth and that helps.
Re: The joys of having a child.
I would NOT recommend doing crunches / situps. If you build the muscle under your belly fat, the muscle will just push the fat outwards, making you look even wider (from the side) than you did before.
I'd recommend cardio and full-body conditioning. So like, walks outside, elliptical in the gym, yoga (power flows, hot yoga)...stuff that gets your whole body moving and balanced (i.e. not exaggerating one muscle group and ignoring its opposing muscle group).
Re: The joys of having a child.
Is it skin or fat? When you grab it, does it have the squishy subcutaneous fat or just loose skin? How high is your bf %? How long has it been since you gave birth? Unfortunately no matter how trim you get, if it's loose skin it will have to be removed by a plastic surgeon and there's nothing you can do besides temporary body wraps and even then..even when I was underweight I still had a bit of loose skin when I touched my toes and there's nothing can be done, it's never hindered me at making money tho. moisturize your skin and eat well (don't skimp out in healthy fat, eat in moderation though ) and get your body fat down and then see wher you are
Re: The joys of having a child.
Another question in addition to OP's: How can you tell the difference between loose skin and just extra fat? I have a lower belly pooch, too (I've never given birth but used to be fat) but it isn't wrinkly or saggy it just sticks out a couple inches and wobbles and I can "squeeze" it, but it feels firm. Also, like Charlie said, situps make it worse because it pushes out the fat even worse. Cardio all the way!

Attachment 44916. This is a bad case of loose skin. It literally hangs. You can also have wrinkling around the belly button. If you're at a low bf % with toned stomach muscles and it's hanging like that , it needs the intervention of a surgeon. But if u can grab is and squish it, try lowering body fat first
Re: The joys of having a child.
Saran wrap at night/during cardio under a waist trainer will help get rid of water weight fast. I totally agree with Go Cardio! You can do it
Re: The joys of having a child.
I started going jogging, I will try the saran wrap and waist trainer. :) my belly is no where near as bad as the picture at all. I can pinch and squeeze it. My daughter is 17 months and I have a 6 year old also, my body fat I can't remember but I'm 5'0ft and 105 right now. :) Does anyone have recommendations for a waist trainer? Thank you!
