Re: Who uses contact lenses?
how often are you replacing them? No matter how many times you clean them, they will wear out and need to be replaced. Since the degrading over time is so gradual, you don't notice that you are getting used to the irritation until they just bother the ever loving shit out of you. I started replacing mine every month and my eyes feel much better.
Re: Who uses contact lenses?
Hi,
I have been wearing contact lenses since I was 17. I'm 39 years old now. So I do have a lot of knowledge with this issue. You should go see an eye doctor right away. Don't wait any longer. You only have one set of eyes. Take very good care of them.
You obviously are experiencing some type of eye irritation. It could be from your contact lenses. It could be from allergies. It could even be from your contact lenses cleaning solution. Make an appointment with your eye doctor and he/she will examine your eyes and be able to narrow down what the problem is.
Good luck! Hope you feel better soon!
Re: Who uses contact lenses?
Your contacts should say how often to replace them. Some are daily wear, some are monthly wear, etc.
It could also be your contact solution. Certain contact solutions burn my eyes or cause eye irritation.
Have you tried rewetting drops? You just use them how you would use regular eye drops. Helps with irritation because then your eyes/contacts will feel less dry.
Also, if you are using circle lenses, I feel like those tend to hurt a bit more than others. But as long as your contact lens solution is getting replaced every night and it is non-irritating and you are replacing your lenses, you shouldn't experience much discomfort with those either.
Re: Who uses contact lenses?
After you get your eyes checked and you are in the clear to still wear contacts, I recommend getting the CIBA Vision Dailies Total brand since they have the highest oxygen permeability and they are replaced every day. I was having issues with dry eyes and irritation with every other brand but since switching, I have no more issues. People have the perception that daily wear contacts are expensive but in actuality you save money because you no longer have to buy cleaning solutions.
Re: Who uses contact lenses?
I wear monthly's and have dry eye. All the info here is basically what my eye doctor told me including to make sure I used a solution that replenished & rehydrated the contact while it's being stored. I use Opti-Free long lasting replenish formula and it has helped.
Re: Who uses contact lenses?
I agree with switching to the disposable lenses. I wear the kind you wear 2 weeks and throw away but my brother has to have the daily disposables because his eyes are way more sensitive.

I'm going to 2nd what hyori has said. I switched to dailies and it has helped my eyes not be as dry after looking @ computer screen camming.
Re: Who uses contact lenses?
I use monthly disposables. I do get dry eyes so use eye drops even when not wearing lenses. My optician told me that we naturally blink less when looking at a computer screen, so this my be part of your problem.
Re: Who uses contact lenses?
Most irritation comes from protein build up on the lenses which makes the lens material irritate your corneas. The less your eyes produce tears, the more protein builds up on your lenses, so people with drier eyes, also have the double whammy of more protein build up. It doesn't take that long either. Those with a lot of histamine production, (allergies), also experience the same issues. When you wear daily disposables, the protein buildup doesn't happen.
Even the best contact lens solutions cannot remove protein buildup because to do so you actually need to use some kind of micro exfoliation which will eventually wear out the lens anyway. Even hydrogen peroxide solutions, although quite good, still leave protein deposits. If you were to look at your lenses under a microscope after 24 hours of wear, you would be horrified at what you see. That's what convinced me.
I personally think that the contact lens market is a complete scam and that it most likely only costs 2 cents to make lenses but we are being charged over 2000 times what they are really worth but that's another conspiracy theory that can lead to a very long discussion.
Re: Who uses contact lenses?
Out of interest, how much do you guys pay? Mine cost me £10 a month for the lenses and £6 for the solution, which last a couple of months.
Re: Who uses contact lenses?
I wear Desio lenses for cam for my cam persona daily. However, you're supposed to update then every 3-4 months I believe so they may in fact be drying out or had their use which is making your eyes go beserk. How long have you had them? I usually purchase multiple packs at a time so that when one is dried out I can use the other pair. I've been wearing contact lenses almost daily for over 3 years now with no headaches or complications but I also take them out and buy new ones or take a break if my eyes hurt. That's usually a sign you need new/fresher contacts.
Re: Who uses contact lenses?
I'll echo all of the above. Most of all about how it's a good idea to have a professional take a look at your eyes and lenses. You do not want to inadvertently be harming your one pair of eyes...
Have they ever been comfortable for you though? It reads a bit as if they never really were. If they were okay in the beginning; have you started any new meds during your time wearing them?
I know in my case meds had a lot to do with me not being able to wear them anymore. Newer lenses, different fluids, didn't help. A certain med (combo of meds) made my eyes that much drier and had them have a sort of chemical change to the natural fluids of the eyes. Was not able to wear them again unable I was able to quit those meds. Something to consider.

I third. Started using these when I was back in the corp office machine with computers and over head florescent lights. If I'm doing longer days on cam (10-12,) I'll sometimes switch them out twice. The lighting, my allergies and running the AC and fans full blast so I'm not a sweat monster can do a number on them sometimes.
