Easy Ways to Help Charity
Hey guys,
I love stuff like this. While big donations or devoting time to causes you care about is obviously great, it's also nice to have ways to contribute a little just by doing stuff you'd otherwise be doing. My favorites right now are:
iGive
https://www.igive.com/button/
iGive is a browser add-on that recognizes when you visit a site that is compatible with it. You set it up to be configured to the charity of your choice, and if you a visit a site that works with it, it will inform you that if you'd like, a certain percentage of your purchase that day will be given to the charity. It works with a bunch of sites, most notably groupon and amazon smile. If you do a lot of online shopping anyway, this is an easy way to make part of your purchase count toward your favorite charity.
Charity Miles
Available on Android and Apple phones in the app store for free.
If you're a runner/walker or biker, all you have to do is pick an organization, start the app before you head out, and it logs your miles and donates a small amount per mile.
I love things like this because, while you're obviously not earning much for your charity at any one time, every little bit helps, it adds up over time, and it's by doing things that you're already doing. Really no effort required to start up an app before taking a walk or clicking an extra button before making a purchase online that you were already planning to make.
If anyone has any favorite easy apps/ways to help charity, please add them!
Re: Easy Ways to Help Charity
Great thread!
I love this one... http://smile.amazon.com/gp/aw/ch/about
I do a lot of shopping on Amazon so it is a no brainer for me! It is a very easy way to donate to a charity of your choice. :)
Re: Easy Ways to Help Charity
Yep, I do Smile Amazon, for the Red Door animal shelter (no kill) where I got my bunny
Also, check out http://thepetitionsite.com,
There's loads of great causes, animals, human rights, education, etc.
You can donate, but many times a signature works well, :)
Re: Easy Ways to Help Charity
https://www.change.org/ is another site similar to the petitionsite. Thanks for reminding me! I still get updates on some of the petitions I've signed on there as the bills work their way through congress. It's great to be kept informed and knowing that it's doing something/if there's anything else you can do.
Re: Easy Ways to Help Charity
Here is something that is easy to sign up for, but obviously, if you're called upon to actually help, it will mean more involvement.
Be the Match:
https://bethematch.org/
Be the Match is a national (US) registry for potential bone marrow donors. Signing up is simple - you fill in your info, they send you a kit with 4 cheek swabs to do, and you send it back to be put into the database. It's something like 1 in 540 people will be a match in their lifetime. Obviously, you shouldn't sign up thinking you'll never be called upon, just for the "feel good" points, but if it's something you're willing to do, it's an easy enough process to get your info in there. You stay in the database until the age of 60 as long as you keep your contact info up-to-date.
Volunteer Match
http://www.volunteermatch.org/
Easy way to search for volunteer opportunities in your local community. You can often find the wayward listings for one-off events that otherwise might not be advertised prominently, and you can sign up to do something good for a day without committing to a weekly or monthly "volunteer shift" at an organization.
