Another court rules strippers are employees
Re: Another court rules strippers are employees
I love how the author ate the blue pill and thinks this is a victory for dancers.

Yup. Just another group of ex-dancers trying to get one last payday on the way out and screwing things up for current dancers in the process.
Re: Another court rules strippers are employees
Consistent with the publications far left wing bias.
Re: Another court rules strippers are employees
I hate being an employee! I love being self employed/an independent contractor. F*ck that court and f*ck those ex dancers.

I'm not a dancer, so I can't comment on whether or not it's better to be an employee or independent contractor. I remember when my girlfriend was a dancer, there were some slow nights where she ended up owing the club money at the end of her shift, which is something that I consider unfair.

In all my years of dancing and all of the clubs I worked at I only met one decent owner. The rest whether they're men or women are scumbags.
Now the owners will treat the girls fairly, alright--by keeping however much they want from dances & VIPs... Maybe you will get 5$ from every 20$ dance? That is, if they don't find out you just sued one of your last clubs & blackball you.
That just happened to a woman I know down here. She'll be lucky to work in the state of Florida again, after posting about it on Facebook. Seven kids, no resume or job skills. She just fucked herself...for a few hundred bucks...
Suing your employer & expecting to work for him again, or anyone he knows, is not exactly rocket science.
ETO: check this out--just heard about a club that WON in court! 1st I've heard of in a long streak of losses.

Well, no of course I don't want all of the negative things that you mentioned to happen. And I think strippers should be treated fairly. But I know that will never happen. For example, if a dancer works for a strip club that's a corporation they should receive benefits, bonuses and all of the perks that other corporate employees get.

I hear you on that. I've been an independent contractor for most of my life, both as an artist and then a DJ the last 15 years. Health care, retirement, what's that?
:D

Because that's exactly what they will do. Plus now the IRS will be on all the dancers, because of this bullshit.
The only people really benefiting from these cases are the fucking lawyers. By the time they take their 30-50%, and the IRS gets their cut, there won't be much left over divided up for all the girls getting duped into suing all these clubs.
If the dancers were employees, I don't think the owners would have to pay the dancers anything, if the dancers were able to earn more than the minimum wage from selling dances. Clubs can require dancers to pay the club a certain amount for each dance, even if they're private contractors. A dancer I used to see told me that the club where she works takes $5 for every dance from the dancers instead of charging them a flat fee. If all dancers were to become employees instead of private contractors, how much clubs give the dancers per dance would depend far more on the supply and demand of dancers than whether or not they're employees. If one club paid dancers $5 per dance, and another paid $10, and another let the dancer keep everything, the club that paid dancers the most would most likely get the hottest dancers and attract more customers, so clubs would still have incentives to pay dancers well. For dancers, the main benefits of being employees would be that clubs wouldn't be able to charge them fees for working at the club, and they will still get paid something, even if they had a bad night. The negative aspects could be, clubs could limit the number of dancers they hire and they could possibly limit the number of hours dancers worked so they wouldn't have to provide them health benefits. I'm not a dancer, so I couldn't say which option is better.

All well and good, but there are owners who are now having to shell out millions of dollars for these lawsuits, and you better believe the ones who haven't (YET) know all about it. And are scared shitless. And will now take steps to cover their asses. That means the days of taking only 5$ out of every 20-30$ dance are going to end. It's going to be 25 out of 30. And the best hustlers in the business will be hurt the most.
Re: Another court rules strippers are employees
For instance, the other night in my club, every girl walked with 500-1500$. That will NEVER happen in in a 'Minimum Wage' club.
Once again the only people who will benefit from all this are the fucking lawyers...and the IRS. Anyone believing the hype has been duped by the lawyers, or is living in Cloud Cookoo Land.
