Yes, there are some children who are not mature enough but I think the majority are. It's easier now than back in the day if you have security cameras to keep watch.

Or facetime every 30 mins. I don't have the time or mental capacity to babysit. Would you?

I think facetime is a better idea so they can have some privacy but not too much. lol
For your question about babysitting...nope, nope and nope! Not anymore.

LMAO!
She's also great at prosecuting predators! I'm glad President Biden chose her as his VP because I would be happy if he made her Attorney General.

I'm babysitting my granddaughter for 2 weeks while my daughter finds day care & assistance to pay for IT as she started a new well paying job.
We are using the parenting method 123 Magic. It's what I raised my daughter on. Time outs & sticker charts for start behaviors like brushing teeth, getting dressed, or eating healthy meals (we set a timer & if she beats the time sticker. Once a section is full tiny, cheap reward).
She's doing sooooo well.
Anyway, we were at the pool sitting down in the sun the other day. She was hanging on my back like a monkey & we were playing & giggling. Then she called me Mommy. I smiled & said "I'm Savta not Mommy". She said "Mommy" again. I pulled up a pic of my daughter & said "that's Mommy, I'm Savta".
She hugged me tight & giggled "Mommy Savta". We play argued for a bit.
OMG it really just lit me up! My daughter is great with her. I felt so honored to hear that.
Universe: thank you for allowing me to be a part of their lives!!!

I think that's more than old enough to be home alone. This sounds like a case of parents overbabying their child.
I think it's too old. Me and all of my class mates were home alone since 7. I would get back from school, having food in the fridge (there were no microwaves back in then, in this post comunist part of the world, only people with money could afford them). I was heating the food on the stove, checking the gas to not have leaks everytime i was turning it off, then doing my homework and washing dishes. By the time parents were home, everything was all set.
Today is different, obviously kids get more comfort than we did back in the day and they don't need to "struggle" so early, but at 12 is a well grown up who is supposed to be able to stay home alone and not turn the house upside down or do anything dangerous.

Re: The Official 'What's On Your Mind?' Thread!
I totally agree with you! I think 12 is plenty old enough. I was babysitting when I was 12 and I remember husbands/fathers of kids I was babysitting hitting on me and getting real creepy. They were such horny bastards all the time. Those were back in the days. I wonder if girls still babysit at that age and having to subject their innocence to that.
Maybe that's why I was destined to be a Hoe!

Got this new line of permanent hair color today that claims to cover gray in 10 mins. I'm excited to try it. No, it's not Redken but YES, it's professional color. No, it ain't no back alley color either.
LMAO when people think that only Redken makes professional shit. Broaden your horizons, sweetie!

The more meds, the merrier sis! We won't have a care in the world;D.

Re: The Official 'What's On Your Mind?' Thread!
Do you let people in your circle know what kind of meds you're on and what they're for, sis?
I do because to me it's no different then letting people know if you have peanut allergy. I think it's important that people be mindful with those dealing with mental health and on meds so they know not to provoke or troll us. Certain meds side effects can make us irritable and quickly SNAPPED!
People have to take responsibilities for the energy they bring and how they treat us while it's our responsibilities to know who we can and cannot be around. Self care is not giving access to toxic people that are not healthy for us.
