For those of you who study: balancing camming an study time
Hi there,
Sorry I have not been keeping up with the threads lately, I am having some time management issues!
I have recently started doing a home-based Master's degree, and am expected to commit to 18 hours per week of study time.
I spoke with a couple of the ladies on here, and established a kind of 3-4 hour study schedule in the mornings, starting around 7 am, then camming until around 7 pm at night - ideally I want to be camming for an absolute minimum of 6 hours per day, but ideally more.
In short, I am not having much luck - ha! I am finding I am way keener to work than study, and keep finding myself checking Twitter and stuff when I should be in full on study mode. I am also finding it really hard to concentrate and keep thinking I *could* be missing out on shows and regs..I am home, so why aren't I online?!
It's frustrating as, before I started studying again, I really had the camming schedule down, and was really holding myself accountable.
I would really appreciate any advice suggestions and tips, or just to hear about some of your experiences if any of you have been/are in a similar situation. There may be something I haven't thought of! :)
Thank you. xx

Re: For those of you who study: balancing camming an study time
I was literally just thinking about this. Trying to do a full 10 hours on cam today but i have an assignment due for my MA (also home study) on the 15th. I've just come off now so I can get in a few hours study. I think the best way is to leave yourself available for skype bookings but not do any freechat while you're studying, that way you get the best of both worlds x

Re: For those of you who study: balancing camming an study time
Thank you, Susie:heartbeat
Do you find you are able to focus on studying when doing tha? You're not constantly refreshing the page to check if there are shows requests?
Do you tend to have days that are fully focussed on studying and vice versa? xx

Re: For those of you who study: balancing camming an study time
I'm really only just starting out trying to do both as my course started last month and I haven't worked on cam very much. No I'm not refreshing because I get emails or texts when I get a booking x

Re: For those of you who study: balancing camming an study time
Thanks, lovely.
Would love to hear any updates or ideas you have as you go on. I think I'll try just offering Skype shows while studying so I know I can still make money. xx

Re: For those of you who study: balancing camming an study time
My plan in future is to cam daytimes and do 2 hours every evening on study (I only have 1 module atm) but need to get more organised for that haha. PM'd you my skype in case you want to chat in future x

Re: For those of you who study: balancing camming an study time
My advice is actually to forget about camming for the hours you're studying, at least until you're used to the workload. Take yourself to a different part of the house, or if you only have one room, make a study corner that your brain associates with learning, not camming.
Remember also that it takes a while to settle into study mode, so if you're planning to, say, read for an hour, set aside 1.5 hrs in your schedule for the inevitable faffing around. If you're dyspraxic or have ADHD, schedule an extra 30 minutes either side of your study block for transitioning in and out of that mode.
2 hours of complete focus is more efficient than 4 hours of keeping your eye on social media, bookings, or what have you.

Re: For those of you who study: balancing camming an study time
This is my problem too and I wish I had some good advice. I am still struggling to set up a good schedule. I am in school six hours a day, and it feels like the rest of the time I am trying to juggle homework and studying with the rest of my life. I actually haven't worked in weeks.

Re: For those of you who study: balancing camming an study time
I cammed and studied years ago. My best advice is to get some regulars, know what days/times they are likely to be on and sort your assignments around these times. That way your still getting income and not waiting around endless hours.....because you've already arranged times with your regs ☺ that's how I did it anyway but I'm sure there's millions of other ways to schedule it.

Thank you so much, ladies!
Copy and pasting all this into word.
It's somewhat a comfort to know that it's not just me who struggles. I never thought I had ADHD, but am now starting to think I might! x

you might just be a workaholoic and have a "im home must be working if not im not being productive complex" like u said . its a mindset you have to get into . ur investing ur time and energy into a new career and thats not something thats bad. if it helps just think of it as a different job like when u were kid and were told ur job was going to school and momma and dadas job was to leave the house and go do whatever they did (or maybe my mom was weird and told me that since she was always shipping me off to daycare and was barely home since she was a single mom) its also a habit you have to get into like sloth said like train ur brain into being in "study mode" then when it starts to click in you can maybe start doing more while u study like adding in skype shows and stuff.

Re: For those of you who study: balancing camming an study time
You really have to follow your calendar. if its not schedule in your calendar then it doesn't get done.
Then there is also the pomodoro timer method setting a timer for a block of time, take a 5 minute break then back to work but it also requires sticking to your calendar and managing your productivity.

Re: For those of you who study: balancing camming an study time
Brilliant advice, thank you so much Snowy <3
I like the idea of training my brain, I think that is definitely a good way to put it and what I have to focus on now.
My course only started on November 1st, so maybe I am expecting too much of myself!
I think Slothy's advice about allotting more time than I think I need, is really good too - as some of it inevitably gets spent twatting about on facebook lol. xx

Thank you, Minnie! I will try that. xx

Re: For those of you who study: balancing camming an study time
Are you in the arts or the sciences, babe? I've got a couple of study-related resources to recommend, but some are very discipline-specific.

Cool, in that case check out this YouTube channel by Thomas Frank, he's got lots of awesome study tips for every discipline. For example, "5 ways to build focus and concentration":

Re: Have a Question Related to Camming? Unsure Where to Ask? Post ANY AND ALL Here!
I've tried searching [with Google as well as in here], but without much immediate luck, so I'll take my chances posting here:
I'm currently in uni, taking a bachelor's degree, and I'm considering doing some camming on the side (I have student loans also, so it would just be an additional income I guess). I've seen lots of people say they're combining camming with school, but how do the hours add up? Do those of you who combine studies and camming have proper time to study and such outside of just attending lectures? Also, do you get enough free hours for camming to make "good money", or is the income just minimal? Idk, any insight from this point of view would be appreciated. :)
Also, there's one thing I was wondering about; I registered to Chaturbate just because I was curious and to see how it works on the inside, and I noticed there was a rule about not sleeping on cam (and not pretending to neither). I've seen this rule on other sites as well. Is there a particular reason for this? Is there some sort of legal concern, or what?
Thanks for your help!

I'm in grad school rather than undergrad, so the workload is different, but the whole reason I started camming is that it's the only part-time job that brings a full-time wage (outside dancing, pro-domming or escorting, which I can't do for other reasons). This may be different for you if you're in a highly valued field and can get some kind of awesome part-time job that covers your expenses and leaves lots of time to do your coursework. The TA jobs I can get demand more of my time and bring in less money than telling men to put things in their bottoms does, so camming it is.
Imagine getting a part-time job, say, in a coffee shop. How many hours/shifts would you sign up for in order to cover your bills? Would this leave enough time to study? Universities sometimes have guidelines for how many hours they suggest full-time students can give to a job; does yours have anything like that?
Although nobody can tell you exactly how much you will earn camming, if you spend the same number of hours on cam as you would in a coffee shop or another part-time job, and work as dilligently as though you had a manager assessing your work ethic, you should be able to do much better than your coffee shop gig *on average*. Though some shifts you could make nothing, whereas other shifts you could log off with a ton of money. Whether it's good money obviously depends on where you live and what you're used to.
I personally aim for London Living Wage, and if I don't manage to make it over the course of about 16 hrs of camming, I start moaning and complaining a lot. Though if I do make it faster, I'll usually stop working and throw the rest of my hours at schoolwork, rather than staying on cam to make more. But if you're a beginner, I wouldn't actually advise that; getting used to a schedule and cultivating regulars is really important.

Thank you for replying~ Yeah, that makes sense. If I am to earn money, better doing something rather than nothing, and camming does seem to have the best pay/time ratio.
Do you cam every day, or like every other day? And on days with no lectures, I assume you'll cam for longer? I'm not sure how much time I would be able to put into camming, but if I go for it, I'll at least make the most out of that first week with extra promotion and all. :)
There is work related to my degree that I could take, but I don't think the hours would match up with my studying. So if anything, I guess camming it is!

Re: For those of you who study: balancing camming an study time
As always, great advice. :)
I think, as Slothy says, give it a go, try out different things and see what works for you.
I have been trying to study mornings, and work when I've got my 3 hours (or whatever it is) done. But I am finding when I o this, I just think about the money I could be making with my morning regs haha. You need to remember (as do I - heh) there are people looking to wank at all hours of the day, so do try to do what works best for you. As my latest attempts have been failing, I plan to commit two full days to study and then cam the rest. I seem to be an all-or-nothing worker and hopefully this would give me a better chance or actually getting some University work done! I'll let you know how it goes. x

Re: For those of you who study: balancing camming an study time
Thanks, Arwen :)
I am a full time student though, so I need to study every day to get everything done, but I'll be able to set up some sort of schedual anyway. I'm still waiting for some stuff I ordered to arrive before I take the plunge (i ordered a wig, mask and lenses), but I'll let you know how it works out for me as well! :)

Re: For those of you who study: balancing camming an study time
Let us know how you get on and feel free to message me if you want to hear a bit more about what I do in terms of scheduling.
For me the biggest battle is always time management and finding out when I am most productive with school work. Maybe try doing study-related things in the morning on to the early afternoons first; and then camming afternoon and evenings (or nights, if you can manage it). I have never been one to cam into the wee hours, but it could work for you; I find committing one weekend morning or evening at least to camming, usually pays off. x
