How do you stay in shape?
Okay so I let myself go. Like, really badly. I need to lose like 45 lbs and get my old body back. How do you guys stay in shape? What's your beauty routine? I fell into a pretty deep depression and just started inhaling everything in sight. Ugh. What's the best way to lose weight? Thank you. x

Re: How do you stay in shape?
I do weights 3x a week. It's really important that you do some form of resistance exercise while losing weight so you preserve muscle- you want to look toned after, not "skinnyfat" I am sure. If you don't have access to a gym, there are lots of great bodyweight exercises you can do, and also lots of workouts with light dumbbells. There's tons on youtube.
In order to lose weight without feeling constantly deprived, make sure you are focusing on foods that are nutrient dense, not calorie dense. Lots of fruits and veggies of all kinds, nuts, seeds, beans, lentils, mushrooms, and use lots of seasoning. Garlic, tumeric, cayenne pepper, fresh ginger, lemon juice, etc- they all have health benefits as well, plus helping you feel less inclined to cheat. If you're getting loads of vitamins and minerals from what you are eating, your body isn't likely to send you those panicked hunger messages that you get while dieting.

Re: How do you stay in shape?
This! Nutrition is major in terms of weight loss. In addition to the things SuperJa mentioned, I'd recommend apple cider vinegar. Tons of health and weight loss benefits and it's also great for your hair and skin! As for staying in shape, keeping consistent eating and exercise habits as well as staying away from sugar goes a long way. Check out Ashy Bines' booty challenge.. Hands down the best fitness / nutrition program I've done so far. For skin I can't recommend Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay enough! I do a mask (with ACV, not water) once a week and my skin has never been better.

Re: How do you stay in shape?
I do a lot of walking & yoga, those aren't the best for weight loss. Luckily, I only had a weight gain once, for a medical problem.
Eating a fresh grapefruit helps, it's a bit of an appetite supressent. Drink water, so the acid doesn't stick to your teeth, or build up in your tummy.
I cut down a lot on fried stuff

Re: How do you stay in shape?
Good for you for wanting to make positive changes!
I eat a clean, vegetarian diet, lots of lemon water, no or very little alcohol. I run on average 4 times a week on the beach here, and do tummy exercises too. I work 4 to 5 days a week and am very active on stage.
And get good sleep, too. I love sleeping. It's my favorite thing to do.

Re: How do you stay in shape?
I do cardio in the AM and work out with a training doing weights etc and other horrific exercises that make me want to puke in the evening lol - but I will say, it's totally worth it, when you dedicate some time to the right exercise you see such a difference so quickly that you'll want to keep going.
I also cheat when I need to drop weight with Clenbuterol - it definitely sheds fat off you if you need to kick start and you only stay on it for 2 weeks at a time. (Not promoting it, but it's an option)
Diet - cut carbs ... it's horrific at first if you're used to having them and enjoy them ... but definitely helps.

Re: How do you stay in shape?
Cut out sugars, junk food, restaurants, take out, etc. watch out for salad dressings, sodas, hidden calories. you don't have to cut any whole food groups out but eat mostly protein (white chicken, wild caught fish, eggs, low fat plain dairy, etc) and veggies. Limit breads and crackers and carbs like that. Learn to cook. Also, eat a lot of fermented stuff like plain kefir, saurkraut, kimchi, etc. it will be refrigerated and say "cultured". It helps balance and heal your stomach. Make bone broth too!! It will really help, trust me. And learn portion control.
Drink matcha green tea and lots of water (no soda!). I also switched to coconut milk, lots less calories. Drink a full cup of tea before eating meals.
For exercise you need to find something you enjoy or you will fall off the wagon pretty quick. But I do both cardio (running or walking or swimming for an hour a day. I also love biking) and weight training. I love squats and leg presses, and I use heavy weights.

Re: How do you stay in shape?
I just want to say I empathize with the depression and weight gain as a result. Everyone has already covered some great advice on exercise and nutrition, so I just wanted to add a little more. First and most importantly, please don't beat yourself up (not saying you necessarily are but don't) over gaining weight. You are not a failure, you are human. Depression sucks, and it is a legit medical condition. I had put on some weight after my brother's death and I would stand in the mirror and tell myself "OMG you are DISGUSTING how did you let yourself get like that!!!" Bad idea, that NEVER helped me lose weight. Again, I may be assuming and you might not be being hard on yourself, I'm just saying that in case you are, beating yourself will NOT help you lose weight. Get the depression under control if you haven't already. Journal, talk to a therapist or get online support. Do you eat when your bored? If so, find new hobbies or do things to keep your mind busy. Do things that make you feel confident aside from losing weight. And like someone mentioned above, make sure you sleep! It is incredibly difficult to lose weight and keep up a healthy routine when sleep deprived. Also like SuperJa said lift weights and go slow and steady with the loss. This helps prevent any loose skin or extra fat. Nothing is more frustrating than losing the weight but still not looking firm because you don't have enough muscle. Lastly, do not stress about the scale. Use a pair of "tester" jeans or an outfit that you used to like to wear to help track your progress. Good luck! PM me if you need to, I've struggled with depression for years and have been down this road quite a few times. (:

Re: How do you stay in shape?
I stay away from instant foods that contain any artificial ingredients or flavors such as BHT in cereals, avoid drinking milk or going out to eat fast food/Starbucks.
(When in doubt, Fooducate!) I consume plenty of vegetables, white egg protein, low sodium fish, beans, frozen vegetables of all kinds and use only sea salt without dyes. Make sure to set out clothes for working out, so its easier to run every night. I prefer doing that instead of early morning, since people are inside getting ready for the next day. I also poly hoop that helps stimulate muscle growth before hand that is a lot of fun when dancing to music..before you know it you'll be in a sweat within 30 minutes. I've seen great results from cutting sugar completely out of my diet, but it is practically in everything we eat making it difficult. I watch my calories, fat intake and avoid eating all meat..
I'm not a vegetarian by any means but, I hear its not that great for your body.

I don't want to be "that vegan" lol but since cutting out all animal products it has been very easy to stay lean and toned yet full of energy. I didn't think I really had much weight to lose, but I dropped about 5 pounds right away that was mostly just bloat and a little fat. Plus I just feel mentally clearer. Our society does eat a ridiculous amount of meat, and builds every meal around it- when you look at other cultures and how they eat, they all have a staple food they base their meals around, rice, beans, etc.
One thing I do find is it makes it very easy to avoid a lot of the temptation foods- girls ordering pizza and asking if you want some, custies bringing donuts etc, cause it's all things you just don't eat, so it's not even an option in your mind anymore.

Re: How do you stay in shape?
I have to agree, meat is practically advertised everywhere and the way they sell woman's tits for burgers is kinda gross to me. Its crazy..after a few weeks of starting a diet, I notice having different tastes for things when weening off certain foods. The first week or two is devastating when people around you are ordering Domino's pizza or having chinese takeout. Once you reach that goal, anything you eat ends up being a guilt factor in gaining weight unless its from a healthy source. I do admit to splurging here and there, its really freakin hard to resist the temptation of sugar or chocolate! After it leaves your system things become better and feel more clean, then when you eat something that is bad you definitely take notice.

Re: How do you stay in shape?
I do ballet 2x a week and pole at a studio 2-3x/week. I make sure to get plenty of rest and not push myself to the point of exhaustion (which I used to do and it set me back.)
I eat a mostly vegan diet now. Before I cut out animal products I would eat wild salmon and Greek yogurt, which is good if you're not vegetarian. I now get my protein from stuff like smoked tempeh, seitan, and plant-based protein shakes that I make with bananas, flax seeds and chia seeds.
I also try to eat some sort of leafy greens like spinach or nori (seaweed.) I make wraps with the spinach, sautéed kale, and use ancient grain or whole wheat tortillas. I also like to make my own rice bowls by cooking yummy flavorful side dishes like curried lentils, brown rice, and prepared veggies, which I can store and use when I make my bowls.
For dessert, I usually eat an organic dark chocolate bar or I'll make a strawberry smoothie without the extra protein powder, because you don't want to over do it.

Re: How do you stay in shape?
When I wanted to get really trim It took a while, first I cut out gluten, started Jillan Michels 30 day shred, I kept alcohol to the min, then I started to food combine not mixing protein and carbs in same meal, then I cut diary and walked a lot and only ate crap around my period.

Re: How do you stay in shape?
Personally I find it very difficult to do exercise for exercise sake. I find lots of little changes in lifestyle which are hard at first but after a while become the norm. Like for instance, cycle instead of drive. Take the stairs instead of the escalator or elevator. Also diet is very important. Cutting down on sugar has helped massively. We can all give u advice but ultimately I guess find exactly what works for you then stick to it. If you get kicks out of going to the gym then do that. If it's lifestyle changes then make them. If you have a crap diet then work on that.

Re: How do you stay in shape?
I have the loose it app on my phone and its the best! It will calculate your daily allowance for calories. It crazy how many calories are in the portions of things and then what we think a serving size is. It really holds you accountable for what your eating. Getting into the habit of me measuring out all my food really helps I lost ten pounds in a couple months!

I love this YouTube video for abs https://youtu.be/6r3-TkbA_lY and then this one for glutes/thighs https://youtu.be/X663kXIufZI -

besides the usual eating well and walking whenever i can... i also try to do Youtube aerobics a few times a week. I like Tiffany Rothe because her videos are short and easy but usually enough a break a little sweat and keep me in decent shape. And i think she's cute.

Re: How do you stay in shape?
90% of it is diet! Eat vegan, or at least vegetarian. Animals products are sooo unbelievably terrible for you. I lost 10 lbs in the first 2 months after becoming vegan JUST by changing my diet. Obviously, a raw food diet is the ultimate health goal, and I'm not there yetttt, but I do eat mostly whole foods and a lot of raw food.
Also, exercise. Daily. Find what works for you and do it every day.

Re: How do you stay in shape?
Every diet is going to tell you that "this is the way humans were MEANT to eat and EVERYONE benefits from this" but everyone's body is so different you need to find what works for you. Now, in terms of cutting out processed sugars and artificial sweeteners/dyes and junk, well yeah..cut those out. Eat as fresh as you can (and I don't mean subway). But in terms of eating paleo or vegan or any special diet like that YOU need to find what works for your body. I could never be vegan, my body does not thrive on that diet, but that doesn't mean others have my body or experience.
In fact I read an article about an Irish guy and a Japanese guy who both tried lots of soy in their diet and while it worked great for the Japanese man the Irish-American struggled..so what your ancestors evolved eating MAY also play a role. Just illustrating how different everyone is.
