Seems a bit Steve Jobs meets Zuckerman!
From sharing to surveillance, to a world without privacy. I read the book; And it did creep me out since I already feel imposed upon doing cam work.
I Amazon most reading materiel for yrs.-and having done that, the irony did not go unnoticed whirlerz. Reading "The Circle" made me realize our"new normal.

Kinda pissed that movie's coming out in April, tho!:(::)
1. Movie looks awesome- can't wait to watch it.
2. Going to buy the book tonight because these are my favorite types of stories.
3 and 4 (off topic)
Why does Emma Watson have such bad wrinkles for a 20 something (sorry I know it's superficial and mean) and did anyone else see the Cheerio's trailer? That was literally pornographic.
I am sick. I know it and I am sorry if I offend anyone.
Emma Watson? Glad to see she's moved on from those little known indie films. Harry Potter, was it? Such a great stepping stone for her.
I knew nothing about the film or book prior to this thread though, so I appreciate that you made mention of it. I'll definitely make a note to check it out sometime.
I'm in software. Privacy is a concern, obviously. And it's dead. Or dying. Slowly but surely.
There's too much valuable data about you that people like me want to mine. And we always find a way. I can buy cheap cloud-connected sensors that I drop in the sewers that I can use to detect what you ate. Cops would love to know about drug users based on data like that. Biometrics, video, audio, your location, your favorite foods, your hobbies - we want everything.
Usually it's to provide a more tailored experience for you. Sometimes, it's to do bulk data aggregation and statistics to answer questions like "where do people in Brooklyn like to go on a Friday night?"
Do you use Facebook? Google? You are providing them with all that info every action you take. Facebook isn't a "product", you are the product. The customers are the advertisers.
Every day we collect more data than has been collected from the beginning of time until the previous day. And it's getting cheaper and we're getting better at collecting it and analyzing it.
Think if there was no HIPAA - if we could detect if a drug was effective purely by collecting and analyzing biometric data that you release from your Apple Watch!
Or, an example more tailored to the audience here - special high heels with various accelerometers and other sensors that collect data in how you move in them, how your feet apply pressure - should be possible to figure out a pretty damn comfortable heel eventually based on the analysis gathered from a few thousand dancers! How much is that comfort worth to you?
