My First Few Nights At A DIVE-Amateur/Newbie
So I'm an amateur/newbie transitioning to stripping from another aspect of the adult industry. I decided to mainly work/apply at urban clubs or dives because I know I'd have an easier time getting hired plus I have a partner I work with whose body type fits into the urban strip-club category. Before this club I had applied at a gown club was hired on the spot but it was for dayshift & I want nightshift money. So anywho I've been working at this urban club & I feel like a freaking deer in headlights lol.The crowd man the crowd.
My first night I got to the club late, a little past midnight.I had brought in a cute sequined bikini with a sheer dress to cover over it.I guess I was a little different than what the crowd was used to because I kept getting compliments & people saying I should be at a more upscale club {But I wasn't hearing it}.I got on stage and did my best at looking sexy, with slow whines etc I have no pole skills & can shake..... wait.......... jiggle my ass.I needs tons of practice on pole work not really a twerker my ass so big I feel like I'm about to throw my back out if I shake it too hard {or maybe I'm just doing it wrong idk} White guy came up tipped a few dollars.
So after I got off stage, I thanked the man that tipped me on stage chatted for a little bit asked if he wanted a dance he said a little later.A woman approached me and complimented me about how sexy I was?But mentioned she could tell I was new but that I'd get the hang of things & get better with time.I didn't ask her if she wanted a dance I just thanked her for the compliment & kept it moving. The 2nd guy I approached{my first customer} I gave a lapdance to made it rain $200 on me.He said he could tell I was new too but that he enjoyed my dance very much lol.I had a VIP after that & 2 others wanted Vip but the club was close to closing so my first night I think I did ok for a newbie.
How do I get rid of these nerves though? I took a shot maybe 2 would be better. I had also brought in like sheer/fishnet jumpsuit and the manager said for me to wear it without a top or bottoms so basically just the suit. But I was like I'm already practically naked so now just wear the suit with nothing under it so people can see the goods for free? And he said I'd get more VIP's that way.
Re: My First Few Nights At A DIVE-Amateur/Newbie
Can you think of a single job where you wouldn't be nervous on your first day? Nerves are part of getting a new job. Learning to adjust to your the environment without drinking is the way to go if you're looking for a decently long, healthy career in dancing. If you never learn to deal with your nerves, you won't be able to work unless you drink, and then you'll be dependent on substances just to show up to work. Not good.
I can't stand it when customers point out my nerves. Half of the time, they're just projecting or trying to gain power over you by making you feel insecure about yourself. Laugh it off (it sounds like you handled it well), or use it to your advantage (hustle using your newbie status!).
Congrats on a decently successful night!! :highfive:

I agree 100% with Charlie about the drinking thing. I started dancing when I was 20 so I couldn't drink for like 4 or 5 months. After that point I did start drinking at work and part of the reason I quit 6 years later was I was drinking A LOT; so be very careful. I know some places (esp. smaller dive clubs) the customers want you to drink with them or get mad if they buy Champagne and you don't drink any, etc. but do not ever use it as a crutch.
With respect to the fish net dress, I agree with the manager. I used to have a friend that wore a fish net dress with just a tiny thong and used to sell rooms all the time. I didn't get why customers would give her money if they could already see it all but now that I am a little older and more seasoned I get it.
Don;t worry about the pole thing- there's plenty of dancers that can't or don;t get on the pole for a number of reasons. You will learn that later but TBH it is not that important right now; you are not going to make that much money on stage anyway.
Re: My First Few Nights At A DIVE-Amateur/Newbie
I'd like to say thanks to you both for at-least responding.Gia thanks because that's what I really wanted the answer to the sheer/fishnet question.I thought the manager was just being weird/perv we were in his office when he suggested it.
Charlie, nah stripping is alot different than any other job/hustle I've had so there's no comparison nerves/mentality wise.Maybe it's because I'm new but I thought she was trying to be encouraging? I have self control, it's like people that pregame and drink before they hit the clubs to loosen up.I only work 3days a week & only doing this to gain a following/experience before I branch off and do this independently.
I see alot of lurkers & I'm assuming most are probably people curious about dancing. It's overrated, don't believe all the hype, like the glitz & glam you see on ig or that you hear about it's really not that glamorous & the money isn't always easy. There is money to be made & the endless opportunities are there but you have to play your hand right.Don't get caught up in the lifestyle/drama.Always come in with the mindset get in, stack/save, and have an exit plan unless you want to do this as a career {which is fine too}.YOU have to be mentally strong & very assertive. There's a reason alot of dancers are aggressive & it's because they HAVE to be.Stripping isn't for everyone & just because you consider yourself an exhibitionist doesn't mean you'll like/fit in stripping.
I'm probably leaving out alot of stuff but Im in a rush so I'll add or subtract some ish later....

sounds like you had a great first night, and have gotten some good advice. I recommend not drinking, you don't need it you got this.
Re: My First Few Nights At A DIVE-Amateur/Newbie
I think you're off to a great start. Things to remember when working urban......Less is more. Less clothing and less conversation. You usually don't need anything as a coverup and dudes aren't in there for the psychological boost like in white clubs so less convo. Just confident, sexy ass shaking. From what I remember, I think you work close to my area and I dabble/currently work in urban. PM me if you want. :)
