ROKU~Will Someone Who Understands How It Works PLEASE Help Me?
I'm staying at an airbnb, and while I'm here, the owner takes out the cable, and installs a Roku stick. He doesn't even know how it works. All he tells me is that it has Netflix.
After 3 weeks with that Roku bitch, and her annoying voice, I'm ready to scream! Or cry!:'(
I see that I have to manually program stations in, but the ones I want have recordings, ( not live shows), or it tells me I need a code to watch.
I only found one news station, and it is only on at certain times, and never live. Huh???
I'm moving into my new apt. Next week, and decided not to get cable because I don't own a TV yet).
But I will be getting one.
And when I do, is there something I'm missing with the Roku that will make me want to get one when I move?
Or is there an alternative?
* I'm a TV addict.:)
Thanks in advance.
Re: ROKU~Will Someone Who Understands How It Works PLEASE Help Me?
I believe Roku works exactly like Apple TV and just streams tv, music and videos from the internet - so Hulu, Netflix, You Tube etc.
Generally I think getting cable and a smart tv is much better than getting a Roku ... smart tv will allow you to watch netflix hulu etc from your tv and cable of course gives you all your favorite live tv.
If you have friends with cable who are comfortable giving you their login info you can watch live cable from your laptop if there's something you really want to tune into xo
Re: ROKU~Will Someone Who Understands How It Works PLEASE Help Me?
ROku is great, but it is just streaming
There are certain stations [espn] that have live streams
many stations require a cable or sat account to watch all the content, I have noticed that several of the superstation type ask and if you enter directv they just say ok
IF you have a cable account at home you can enter that info to access channels
there are a ton of free movie channels that have netflix type content and are totally free
snagflix
popcornflix
crackle
tubitv
watchfreeflix
there are other types like
plutotv
all the networks have a channel with streaming but may require a signin
you could sign up for hulu and then cancel later
go to the channel store
find one of the channels I mentioned
click on it and add channel
if you need an account and have an account log onto the website it tells you to on your phone and it will walk you through where to enter the code
try it on the basic cable level channels and tell it directv, I know some of them do not require login

Oh, and Amazon, do you have a prime account?
lots of stuff available with prime video

Dude crackle fixed my life. Better quality movies than Netflix for sure. I wouldn't waste money on Hulu. Such a shit channel.

I agree, but if you don't have broadcast and just have to watch the latest episode of the Flash or something it can be useful
Also, you can search for programs and they are always available for sale, at what seem stupid prices, but if you only want one show it might be worth it

Thank You so much for the responses.
It does have crackle, but I already have that on my tablet.
I'm going to get Amazon prime when I'm settled into my new place.
Roku just doesn't seem to be the right fit for me.
I actually asked the waiter at the deli to turn up the volume on their TV, that was tuned to CNN. I just sat there glued to it, like a spaced out addict. Lol!
Plus, the same Jack in the box commercial plays over and over, on every channel. You know the one where the pregnant wife wants brunch at 8 pm?
Omg!!!
