Failed first ever audition - UK
Hello,
I failed my first ever audition at a strip pub in the UK and was told to get more experience.
On here, it feels like auditions are really easy, so the fact that I failed made me feel so uncomfortable.
I was so upset I cried. I've been reading this forum, and people seem to be getting into clubs and strip pubs so easily, but ... here I go, I fail.
Re: Failed first ever audition - UK
I'm from the US, but I failed my first THREE auditions. Then one club (the slowest and crappiest in my area by far) finally hired me, but only for slow nights...within a month I became that club's top earner. Now, not even 8 month later, I am at my area's best club and am a top earner there as well.
I'm not trying to brag; the point is that some clubs are just dumb or don't like taking chances on new people. Are there other clubs in your area you could try?
Re: Failed first ever audition - UK
Thanks for your reply!
The problem is that this was my first choice, as judging by the threads on this forum, it's quite sought-after! We all hate to fail at the popular places, so I guess that's why I am sad.
I need to try again somewhere else I guess.
Also, they didn't explain the process at all and I had to fish for information, as their website is also not clear either and the manager gave info as I went along and not all at once. It was so confusing! I walked in confidently and walked out totally shattered.
Re: Failed first ever audition - UK
I feel like depending on who auditioned you they can sometimes just be super jaded and be like ok if you don't check all the boxes as far as being a super-pro when you walk in, they just turn you away ... or can.
They don't feel like looking for potential sometimes, it's do you meet the criteria, not could you and will you in a few weeks.
Don't feel bad you've got to understand the people half the managers etc are.
It's one audition - xo
Re: Failed first ever audition - UK
Thanks persianprincess. I read through this place a lot before auditioning, and all I am seeing is people saying how you don't really need to know how to dance to pass, and because of this, it feels like if you fail, then you must be such a loser.
The thing is that I was required to send photos before auditioning, so they contacted me back saying they wanted me to audition. So the failure can only be attributed to my performance.
Anyways, I have just have to accept it.
Re: Failed first ever audition - UK
I mean it sucks but in a day or so you'll feel better, maybe put in a little time to polish your audition routine etc ... and then try again elsewhere. Sometimes people put false info in reviews you never know the validity of what you're reading.
So my advice is, toughen up, don't let one manager get you down and try elsewhere. Because there will be money elsewhere too.
I do get it, it sucks, but if every hollywood actor had given up at the first failed audition ... well ... there would be no one for movies xo
Re: Failed first ever audition - UK
They are NOT always easy. I remember at my first one ( a chain club ) the manager made me wait 1-2 hours to audition and then was SLOW to even let me get on the floor to start working. It wasn't easy.
Try another place while you still have your makeup done !

I considered that... Once I got home!
I'll try another time!
Re: Failed first ever audition - UK
Every place has different criteria for hiring. I chose a dive as my first club, so of course i passed the audition! If I'd auditioned in an upscale club my first time, i would've been rejected for SURE. Good for you for aiming high, but i think dives are a newbie's best friend. You learn so much so quickly...then you can confidently trade up to nicer clubs.

So sorry it didn't go the way you hoped. Cheer up. For some reason, you were not meant to be at that club at this time. Maybe the universe was trying to protect you from something. You never know. Keep trying. Don't give up. Make sure you stay positive when auditioning. Managers may hire you based on your attitude alone, even if you don't know how to dance yet.
Re: Failed first ever audition - UK
The first place that didn't hire me also had asked me to come in after seeing photos. Definitely try another club and build up experience, then try again at the one you initially wanted.
Re: Failed first ever audition - UK
This forum skews American, so the vast majority of the posts are about dancing in the States. One of the ways that dancing in the UK is different is that many clubs limit how many girls are on each shift, so they don't necessarily hire everyone and the more desirable clubs tend to be more competitive. It's not unusual to get rejected from one or a few of the top clubs (especially in London), especially when you're new and even down the line if your look just isn't what they normally hire.
Rejection always stings, so I'm really sorry you had to go through it. Don't let it discourage you from trying out a different club though! A different could may even be a better fit for you -- the super competitive clubs tend to be very cutthroat places to work, which isn't great as a newbie anyway when you're just learning how to hustle. Best of luck!
