January: My slowest month ever...
Hello everyone!!
I wanted to make this post to see if you guys notice a decrease on traffic, paying customers and even on content sites this month like I do..
I m usually off a big part of this month cause I tend to go back home ( Latin America) for the holidays.. so this is the first yr I decided to work all of it cause 1) I didn't spend the holidays abroad and I need all the money I can make before the baby is born in April..
I remember other yrs getting slow for me even in Nov already or around xmas time..
This yr it was pretty good til even New yrs but after that... now I m lucky if i make 150.00 in a week... ( I work all indy sites, no big sites with free chat)
I assume this is cause most guys are paying off their cc s from all the big expenses around xmas and stuff so no money for cam or phone sex...
Is any of you noticing the difference??
I really hope it picks up a bit next month cause Feb and March are my last months on cam and I wanna make the most of it!
Happy camming!!
Re: January: My slowest month ever...
^ I've definitely noticed a sharp decrease this month, which sucks because I'm behind on medical bills. Just when I'm finally able to put in a huge amount of hours on cam, it's been crickets for days now....nothing but pop-ins/pop-outs. Someone tried to take me private today and couldn't because of video issues. My grand total for the week, $1.43 :( I can't even afford to buy a fuckin dollar menu item from McDs with that. I'm always trying to look on the bright side of things, but it's almost impossible when you put in 6-8 hours a day and 0 dollars to show for it. I had to dust off my home office and start working a vanilla job 3 days a week again. It sucks, but I need guaranteed income until I get some things taken care of financially.
Re: January: My slowest month ever...
If I wasn't prego I would be looking for a vanilla job as well but nobody will hire me with a belly...lol
How did u get to work a vanilla job from home? I would love that!
Yeah it sucks!!
This week I ve been on 6 hrs x day instead of 8 cause it s just pointless...
I m hardly making money for groceries right now, good thing I have some money saved up but that was supposed to be for the baby and stuff, If it doesn't get better I might have to use some of that to pay my medical insurance bill wich my hubby pays half and I pay him the other half but it s still high, specially when there s so little money coming in.. ughhh
Re: January: My slowest month ever...
January is historically slow right after the Holiday season. Of course this will vary from person to person but its not out of the ordinary. The way to stay afloat is to budget for this time of year and make sure to keep contact with your spenders. Had it not been for sending out dm's on twitter yesterday as well as texting some old time regulars I would have fallen short of my daily goal yesterday. In fact I will probably be ahead of goal today because a person I reached out to yesterday showed up this morning. Gather as much info on your customers as you can and then reach out to them.
Even if you aren't a indy performer all sites have an email system and a way to keep notes on your customers. Work your list and send them messages asking them what sort of stuff would they like to see and what other things that they're into. This way it doesn't look like you're just hitting them up for money. Lots of people don't do this, and they probably won't even after reading this, but I promise it will increase sales if YOU do it.
There are tons of cammers and clip makers doing this more now than ever before. So when customers start watching their spending you'll need to make sure you're the one they come see even if its only twice a month vs four times a month like before. Summer drops off as well. Vacations, kids running around preventing them from having private time. But if you plan ahead you won't feel it much.

I'm sorry to hear that Melanie :( :grouphug: I hope things get better for you and all of us soon. If you need anything at all like someone to talk to, just PM me. Can really sympathize with how much insurance costs! That takes up quite a bit of income.
I was actually a medical transcriber until pretty much the entire industry went under due to speech recognition and sending jobs overseas. Got laid off last summer, so I started camming. Last week, I actually found a similar job via an old colleague, but much harder doctors to understand (they send the easier work overseas and give our department the crappiest ones lol). But, regardless, it's a nice safety net to have no matter how much the work sucks. So at least I can balance camming with my other home job. I'm a hermit!
There are definitely legitimate home jobs out there, it just takes some time-consuming research and networking to find them. Even some insurance companies hire customer service reps to work out of their homes if you have a voip phone and a knowledge of claims processing.

I am the Captain of this oarless, motortless boat.
Yes, January sucks. If I was pulling in more$ I'd be able to save for it, but as it is I took off way too much time in December. It's just been too depressing for me to even try. I keep very good notes on my years. Last year it didn't get good for me until March. Guys are still recovering from spending in January. February is Valentines day and SuperBowl.
Hopefully it picks up again for us all soon.
Re: January: My slowest month ever...
i've been camming on and off since 2001, January has always been slower.
Re: January: My slowest month ever...
It was so busy for the last 2 1/2 weeks and all of a sudden...crickets.
Also anytime there are political events people tend to think of their digital sex needs less but it'll pick back up. Let's be done with this inauguration and get back to life already people!
Re: January: My slowest month ever...
I subscribe too. It was extremely slow for me, especially because I did change my schedlue entirely. I am kinda worried.
Indie and big box sites have been crickets for me, with all the promotion on twitter... hopefully it picks up because I kinda become desperate...

This is so true. A ninja move to target especially clever and valuable whales is to casually fill your twitter feed with reminders why they love you & stuff you have in common. I've got this dude that's pretty immune to flirting, but loves good snark and highbrow conversation. I haven't been posting that kind of stuff specifically *at* him, but a few days of quality geekery, and sure enough, here he is in my DMs this morning.
ETA: that said, I still prefer to plan holiday time for January, if I'm going to have it at all.

Thanks for the idea! I messaged a few of my guys because it's been so dead for me. No bites yet, but at least I feel like I'm doing something right now. <3
