Hey! I worked here in DC during inauguration and will be in Houston for the Super Bowl and in New Orleans for All-Star weekend.
Just from inauguration weekend my top line takeaways were to be extra vigilant about screening thoroughly, making sure to choose a good hotel that's accessible to clients (obviously hotel security in core areas gets ramped up, plus traffic becomes a concern), and be on top of my emails for last minute clients. Also, I was expecting way more business but that didn't necessarily happen because people were in town with their friends and already had an itinerary that included galas, parties, etc. So manage expectations! I'm realizing things like conferences might be best to toe around, since most people who attend are working and not paired up with friends and what not.
I'm sure it differs from place to place, and event to event, but I would expect something like SB and ASW to be the same. I try to be analytical. Hopefully that helps!
That makes a lot of sense... Yeah, I think Id rather work conferences and other such major events that are business trips where they will be traveling alone, rather than sporting events where most people wll be traveling with friends and family.
I was in Chicago when the Cubs won the World series last November.
The game itself was actually in Clevland, OH but the city was PACKED.
My SD was there on business so all travel expenses were covered. I had planned to treat it like a mini vacation but the smell of money in the air
activated the heaux in me. If I were to work a big event like that, I would definitely plan well in advance just to make sure you get the right hotel/right location.
Also at one point that night our hotel lobby was filled with people and lots of security. Be sure to research the hotel before you pull the trigger.
Anyone that has worked in Chicago knows the city is HOT with LE, I screened like my life depended on it. I didn't do any advance planning
as far as bookings goes, my dates were same day appointments and I still made money. It's the luck of the draw.
I have never had chance to do that. I've heard those super bowl suits are $400,000 each.
Business conferences are always the best. As mentioned, sporting/ party events are so hit or miss.
