Hope they found the right dude. That wording seems ify.
If it is then he should be under the jail - One less criminal out on the street and justice for their family.
Re: Suspect nabbed in killing of Queens jogger Karina Vetrano
That's controversial, but do it. If you didn't do the crime, you won't be faulted for it, besides leading the investigators closer to the location of the one who did it. Although I can see how this can work against people.
Re: Suspect nabbed in killing of Queens jogger Karina Vetrano
^^^actually the criminal justice system here is somewhat flawed. Many innocent people locked up for crimes they didn't commit.
Some cases there is so much pressure on law enforcement to find killers especially in high profile cases that they have been known to pin crimes on the wrong people. Especially poor people who can't get access to quality criminal defense.
Since they had the alleged killers DNA (found from victims body) they tried to match it up to their criminal database but since there was no match - mean this person hadn't been caught committing any crimes yet - they had to use unorthodox measures such as familial DNA search which hasn't been perfected and can produce false positives.
Re: Suspect nabbed in killing of Queens jogger Karina Vetrano
They just need to match this guy's specific DNA with the sample they have. If he didn't do it, that'll exonerate him.

Yeah. That makes sense. I do wonder why they haven't released the suspects name or made comments about it.
Found it

Damn he looks busted. At least he's off the streets and just goes to show you just cause a dude doesn't have a criminal record, doesn't mean they aren't dangerous people.
This is so sad. I'd probably lose my mind if I found my child like that.

Of course if he's got a lawyer, any sample they get from him will probably need a court order since most Defense Attorneys will fight that.
Re: Suspect nabbed in killing of Queens jogger Karina Vetrano
That's what I was wondering too the legality of his DNA collection or how they go about obtaining it
Re: Suspect nabbed in killing of Queens jogger Karina Vetrano
NYPD didn't use familial DNA testing for this case as in NYC the're unable to legally implement the procedure unlike in Los Angeles where familial DNA testing is legal and was used to help capture the grim sleeper.
The accused Chanel Lewis according to reports was already a suspect as a Queens resident reported him acting suspiciously near Spring Creek Park two months before Karina Vetrano was murdered so the detectives went back to the 911 calls and found Chanel Lewis that way then asked him to voluntarily submit his DNA which he did and his DNA matched the DNA left on Karina Vetranos body.
That said, not only are two families forever ruined because of this monster, but because this individual is black, it's now going to put a rift between the black and white community in that area where the ties were already loose or non existent to begin with.
