Do you know how to sell yourself/your shows?
Hi
I thought about starting this thread because first of all, i see a lot of girls complaining about traffic, clients, timewasters and such, but do we remember that before we cam that we actually need to sell ourselves and our services to them?
I heard from a cam model that she wasnt being able to sell shows and that guys are timewasters/twats.
My first question to her was: How do you talk to guys? Do you treat them all the same? Do you talk to him like he was already a time waster and you dont have time to waste? Do you listen to your client and what hes looking for? Do you treat all clients the same? Coz let me remind you, when you sell something, you need to listem to the client and what he wants. Dont talk to him like a robot. In my experience, the way you sell your services to an american is much different from selling to a latino (spanish, italian, french).
Americans and english guys are more into kinky than latinos, the last ones are more into vanilla shows and some romance. Do you take the time to know your client and what hes actually looking for?
I always go with this story: you are the buyer, you walk into a store, you dont know yet what you want, you start trying clothes, still didnt figure out what you want or need and imagine if every outfit you try, the sales woman asks you: ok, now are you going to buy this one? Are you ready? Rushing you to buy and making you feel bad. Sorry, if i get this kind of treatment, Im gonna run for the hills and look for a store where they dont show so clearly that all they want is my money!
Also, do you buy every time that you enter a store? Do you look whats on the shelves and sometimes leave without buying anything?
Well, the same happens to them. I always remember, that these guys are looking for fantasy and to have fun. If i go with : my shows is this, that and that. price is $$$. Sorry, i dont see that guy buying, in fact i see him getting from hardon to a soft one in a matter of seconds and just not buying anything.
I also remember that i have tons of competitors which actually take their clothes off (my case), how am i going to make this guy buy from me, what can i offer that makes him buy from me and not from a girl who will get naked and play with a toy. But thats me, im a non nude model.
I know there are tons of time wasters out there, i get them all the time as many of you do. But my job is to sell and if i suck on selling, i wont be camming, coz all starts with the sale. Am i selling myself right? Do i make an effort to really sell myself without expecting that the guy needs to buy from me because i sure am hot and dont need to do more than showing my pics for him to decide? Well, yes, you do need to do much more than letting him see your pics and decide by himself if he wants a show from you or not, you need to sell yourself like no other girl does, you need to be nice and have patience and you need to be wanted. If you lack on knowing how to sell yourself, you wont sell, coz we have too many competitors and the nice ones win.
Unless you dont care about how many sales you are losing and all is good for you, you will need to change your attitude and try harder to sell before you cam.
Im sorry for the long post, but I wanted to give some insight of what i hear now as a webmistress and how i think some can improve their sales just by changing their attitude a bit.

:worship:
Preach! You are so right on. I realize that a lot of guys out there are coming around with Zero cash and trying to get something for free but if you treat every guy like that then you are losing opportunities.
I say do it. Ignore the guys, assume they are all time wasters. You dont even know how many of your time wasters are my very best regulars!
I wont give UNLIMITED dirty talk and free looks in my guest chat but I do entice and tease and when it becomes clear that they cannot pay for more then I shut it down and turn my attention on other clients! Even Mr. broke today could be a future client so its in your best interest to entice them and leave them wanting more.
I know lots of models agree with you girl but you dont hear much from them cause when things are good we are happy its only when things are bad that we want to complain and find someone to blame. Its human nature. So it probably seems like all cam models hate men but I think probably the opposite is true.

Re: Do you know how to sell yourself/your shows?
Unfortunately I don't think half of them know what they're looking for! I've had them ask me what i'm into? I tell them i'm into catering to their needs today, and what would they like to see. They then say something vague like "anything" or "everything". I start rolling my eyes as i realise they don't have a clue what they want! So then its guessing games as to what they actually want :/

Re: Do you know how to sell yourself/your shows?
I suppose that the more you have worked as a cam girl the more you have no patience to hear and that might be the problem why more vets are complaining abt traffic, but i also think that this post will help newbies to know how to start a conversation with a potential client. I really hope it does, my intention is to help anyone that needs it.

Re: Do you know how to sell yourself/your shows?
Selling is an art and like art, it is subjective. There are plenty of women who make a killing being bitch nasty and others who are nice girl next door. The "it" factor is charisma. You can sell anything if you have the confidence to pull it off. You have Hitler and you have Ghandi. Both influenced millions.
Find your "it" factor. Easier said than done right?

Re: Do you know how to sell yourself/your shows?
This is the part i said on the first post: "Do you treat them all the same?"
If you dont understand what he wants, you dont take the time to listen and understanding who is on the other side of the screen, you probably will miss it.
When i feel im worn out and have no patience at all anymore, i stop what im doing, i breath a hundred times and then i come back with a better attitude. After all, camming is 50% selling and 50% camming. If you fuck any of those, the client will go the next one. xx

Re: Do you know how to sell yourself/your shows?
I honestly try to remember not to be a bitch to these guys bc I've had returning clients that have come to my room browsing & got a show bc I was nice and had a great attitude. I mean you wouldn't want to buy from bitchy sales lady right? same applies here. Breaks are literally a saving grace for me.

Re: Do you know how to sell yourself/your shows?
I haven't even read the post yet but I'm so ready to!
I've always been the kind of camgirl who turns her nose up and says "if you don't know you want a show with me, fine, I'm not going to baby you into my private shows" but I'm getting older and need to start selling. Ain't no "barely legal" tag selling me anymore.

Re: Do you know how to sell yourself/your shows?
Firstly, men aren't really much different at all. Whether they're 'latino' or American, or French. They're men with the same minds and bodies as the rest of their species and often the same fetishes. Latino men can be VERY freaky.
Secondly, and no offense, but I think it takes more than less than a year being a 'webmistress' to teach other bbs about sales. Your site isn't even 'sale' ready. It's slow and looks like it stepped out the 90's.
I treat all my clients the same. I play, you pay.

Im sorry if offended you, it wasnt my intention. Im a new webmistress, thats for sure, but Im a cam girl for 15 years and I know a lil bit of what im saying here. My site looks like the 90's, most probably because i wanted something classy and kinky at the same time with a bit of a look of a vintage thing. The site is 5 months old only and Im sorry if i dont agree with you on the slow part, i have girls killing on the site and they can testify that in here or anyywhere else. If some girls dont sell, well, then maybe this thread will help them? Your point of view and I respect that, so no problem for me at all, but Im not trying to be a bitch in any way, Im trying to help as a fellow cam girl. if you dont need advice, great, Im so happy you sell a lot, but for those who are not, it might help a different point of view. Lets keep this post clean pls. ty

Re: Do you know how to sell yourself/your shows?
It would be nice is there was a guide out there on how to sell shows....I try being open and chatty with everyone that enters my room. The problem is lately that traffic has slowed down, and now all I seem to get is guys wanting free shows. I'm on the verge of giving up or at least taking another extended break, it would be good to learn some ways to entice guys to buy shows, because clearly I'm doing something wrong. It's either how I look, or guys just find me boring. I struggle to keep my room interesting when I have less than 20 viewers and none of them are talking or responding to me. I try to do little teases and dances, but all that seems to generate is more demands. I'm having to remind guys constantly that I do not do free shows. If only there was a site where I didn't have to do any free chats! The free token sites are what burns me out, it's just too competitive with girls that give it all away for free. I think 80% of my issue is a lack of traffic, the other 20% my inability to sell myself. After an entire week of only making 50 tokens, this shit really starts to wear me down. I struggle being a bbw cam girl, I'm not pretty I don't wear makeup, guys aren't looking for a natural girl (or maybe I just haven't found the right site!). Anyway I'm going to go wallow in self pity and hope that tomorrow I actually make more than 10 cents.

Re: Do you know how to sell yourself/your shows?
Okay, KittyLovelicks, we are in the sales industry and you need to step up your hustle. First, what is your image that you do use to capture the guys? Are you natural girl? Then market yourself as that :) Also: you need to find that right niche, fetishes, site, and marketing plan for yourself ;)

Re: Do you know how to sell yourself/your shows?
I find that being unique attracts the customers. Talk, engage the customers, don't put up with their bullshit, have a good time, cater to different quirks and kinks of customers. There are many different fetishes out there and a lot of men will pay a lot of money for the right model who will indulge them in their fetishes. I market myself mostly as a fetish and Domme model. I make more money in privates even on token sites, because I target fetish and submissive men. They want role plays, one on ones and a model who will be responsive and accepting to their kinks. Having a creative room and clothing also keeps the illusion alive. We are in the entertainment business and need to draw them in. I tease them sexually and verbally. On token sites I will purposely ban obnoxious freeloaders just to show the crowd that I won't put up with their shit. After I do it, I make a sarcastic comment then I smile or wink in to the camera, it tends to get the guys making funny comments. Keeping the mood up is hard sometimes. When it does get quiet for awhile, I log off and do something else, then I get back on in a different frame of mind. Charm them, show confidence and be that bad ass sexy bitch that you are!

Re: Do you know how to sell yourself/your shows?
I market myself as all natural, hairy, bbw, milf.
I don't wear makeup for two reasons 1. I suck at applying it no matter how many you tube videos i watch and 2. My toddler hid my foundation somewhere! it's just not me, I hate the stuff. I do put a bit of lippy on occasionally, lucky my camera and lighting is somewhat forgiving. A lack of money to buy nice lighting or makeup is a big issue too. As is living in Australia, I can only really cam for 4 hours in the day time because of family, that is usually 7pm-11pm US time, weekdays. I tried for months working at different times, but that's the only time where I make any real money.
I've been camming for over a year seriously, in that time I haven't managed to attract a single regular client. I have guys come into my room more than once but they are hardly regular. Also I suck at selling skype shows, I charge much less for skype than I do in tokens for pvt, but still that hasn't enticed any new customers. I'm fairly regular on twitter, I promote my videos, skype shows etc. I try not to give too much away for free. Other than twitter and tumblr, I've tried promoting on local classifieds, joining forums etc. FL was a bust for me. I'm trying to get my head around reddit, but getting verified and making the required posts is too time consuming. I offer many different ways for guys to interact with me, different payment options etc.
I feel like I have tried everything in terms of offsite promotion, I've just launched my own website. I have 1.7k followers on twitter, but that has taken over a year to get I see some girls get that many followers in a matter of weeks. I feel that something must be wrong with me....I don't think I come across as desperate, I just clearly state I don't do shit for free because this is my day job. I wondered if all my time at Chaturbate has ruined my chances, guys there are so used to me doing full nude shows that they don't like the fact I'm not doing anything now without tips. I only have 5000 followers there, I don't think you make any money until you hit 20k plus. I got sick of all the time wasters recently so I jumped over to MFC, I've been on there two weeks now and after the first week I'm struggling to get any traffic in my room.
My last ditch effort will be signing up to Entice Live and Boleyn Girls and trying with them, I feel like the only way I can succeed is if the site I'm working on has it's own promotion and traffic. I don't have the know how or the motivation to keep struggling on my own anymore. Going independent has been a complete failure for me so far. Skyprivate is dead for me, I don't even get people adding me on there even though my skype id is freely available. It leaves me thinking there must be something wrong that guys find off putting about me, I'm friendly enough so I don't think it's my personality, which only leaves my looks as the issue. I need to either get over this slump or give up! I only recently came back after taking most of last year off because of the same reason, it got to this time of year and everything died. I only seem to make money in the month leading up to Christmas. Its actually pathetic the pitiful amount I get, considering the hours I'm putting in. Lucky if I make $25 a day on a good day, $100 in a week if I'm really lucky. Most girls do that in an hour, if they don't they soon quit. I can't work a normal day job so this is it for me, the only way I can bring in a little extra money. I just would have thought I'd be much further ahead than I am at this point. I guess I just really suck at sales, any sales based job I've ever had I have failed at.

Girl, i hear you and i also hate free chats, the more u show, the more guys demand to see. Why dont u try ifriends, camcontacts, adultwork...all sites u dont need to go on free? It might help u with getting less burned and maybe feeling more appreciated?!

The most important thing in sales is to realize that people do NOT know what they want, they are waiting for you to tell them. Sales are the same across every industry, it is a fluid thing that works no matter what you're selling, the same way that business works.
Most people who go out to eat, go to a dealership to buy a car, Walk into a computer store to get a computer etc. are going to be depending on the sales people to have the information needed to guide them into making a choice. The same can be said about your potential clients. Even if they know what type of show they want, they still might be on the fence about actually BUYING the show- or whether or not to take advantage of a sale you offer, or whether to do a block session or to go min by min. Your job is to guide these people into figuring out what they want, not expect them to know right away, and even if they THINK they know, they don't.
It's about illusion and making them think that your idea is their idea. Back when I bartended and served in restaurants, the key to upselling the table was to make them realize that they didn't want a sandwich, they REALLY wanted that $50 special, and then of course a side salad!... and a bottle of wine that I happen to make sure is empty before their meals hit so I can talk about how they have to get another bottle because it pairs perfectly with that salmon they just ordered ;)
Or when I bartended I used to get birthdays or bachelor/bachelorette parties. I would ALWAYS go up to them and buy the birthday boy/girl a shot and say "you guys are making them take it alone?! who is taking one with them?" BOOM. 10-20 $10/shots added onto the list. You get the idea....
People have money in their pockets, dying to be spent on something.. they just don't know what they want to spend it on yet, they have to talk themselves into it. (and by "they" and "them" I mean "you")
A few key things to remember:
~People remember the first thing and the last thing you tell them: so make sure whatever you're trying to get across is either in the beginning or the end.
~People are more likely to purchase something if it has a trigger word. For example: "TheBlog.com: A blog for SMART people." Why wouldn't people read that blog? They're smart, it was made for them!
~It's important to be able to feel out what type of personality they have and then appeal to that. There are 4 static personalities: The controller, The Analyzer, The Promoter, The Pleaser. Most people are some type of combination of these, but you can't sell to a controller by trying to let them know how it would please you, and you can't sell to the pleaser by making them think they have to make the decision on their own.
~Price any of your items accordingly so that you can discount them and still make a decent profit. People fucking LOVE sales, the word coupon always gets buys.
~ Not everyone is an immediate sale. Some people take weeks or months to buy or invest in something. If your mentality is that of an immediate sale only- you are losing thousands in potential conversions down the line.
~ First you create the demand, then you supply the demand. There's a reason major companies have a launch date on their products, musicians have release dates for albums etc. It's because people don't know what they want until you tell them, so you telling them that they are going to LOVE and want this but they can't have it yet...that's what makes the sale. Then once you actually release it- lines out the door.
I recommend reading books on sales and more importantly LAW BOOKS. There is no better salesperson on the planet than a lawyer.

It's because people don't know what they want until you tell them, so you telling them that they are going to want this but they can't have it yet makes them want it. Then once you actually release it- lines out the door.
I recommend reading books on sales and more importantly LAW BOOKS. There is no better salesperson on the planet than a lawyer.
I disagree to an extent. They must have some idea of what they want otherwise otherwise why would they take you private? If i end up in a steak house it means i have an idea I want steak, what i may not know is why type of steak, how i want the steak cooked, do i want sides ect. The waiter/waitress offers choice. As camgirls we offer the same choices, options of fantasy. But I cannot sit in the steakhouse umming and arring all evening and never come to a decision.
My own personal experiences with the customer i had in mind just kept going around in circles.
It started off with what am i into. I moved the conversation to talking about his needs and what would he like? He asked what types of fetishes i offered. So he was after some sort of fetish show. I copied and pasted my profile to him and asked if any of those things took his fancy. He told me he wasn't sure and that I could pick for him. I then proceeded to pick for him and we started. I asked how he was enjoying it so far and he said it was "an ok fetish" but not really his thing? :banghead: So i asked him if he would like to choose another or I could chose another one for him OR if there were anything else not on the list he would like? Then he got moody and sort of sighed and was like no.......just carry on. SO after 10 minutes of me trying to find out what he wanted, i just went round and round in circles with him. I think some of them are just incapable of communicating, no matter how hard you try to read them. Either that or some are just difficult.
I will add i rarely get men like this, the odd one here or there. Most are happy to express what they want or at least be steered in the direction of choice of fantasy.

I didn't mean that they didn't know what their tastes are, or what they have a preference for. However, it's your job as a salesperson to up sell and to let them know exactly what it is they want. They came for the steak, but are they going to get the steak thats $13 or the steak thats $49? Are they going to end up spending an extra $50 on dessert and after dinner drinks? Are you going to sell them on that gift card special? We give them choices, but we guide them into choosing the one that is going to make us the most money.. and THAT is your job as a salesperson, to close.
Also, my post was more along the lines of getting them into privates and selling as a general rule, more so than once they are actually already paying.
Either way, just my opinion and what I've experienced. :)

Re: Do you know how to sell yourself/your shows?
I think the difficult ones who actually stay in a show that long just need you to take the lead and tell them what they want. You make a good point Ivy about them not always knowing. Many of them dont and have lost the ability to think clearly. Cuz you know the whole erection situation. I sometimes catch myself listing off things like Im some guys wife. Oh wait I am a wife, but this guy isn't my husband so I better try asking questions in a more seductive fashion. Otherwise he'll feel like he's talking to his annoyed wife. They can tell when we're getting frustrated even when you may think you're being approachable. I'm guilty of it and have to check myself before I log back on. Also there is always someone watching. I can't say this enough. Eye contact and body language can sell a show even before they enter your room. Lots of guys watch rooms without logging in first.

Ahh I see, yes i agree with that. I guess theres two sides to selling. The first being to know what their tastes are and then like you said upselling. Of course if the former isn't established then its impossible to do the latter :)
