You can tell many of those animals just look abused.
Where is peta?!?
Disgusting. I'd rather harness some of these evil humans and ride their asses around to the point of exhaustion. Maybe then they'd know what the horses feel like.
Animals should not be abused and paraded around for human entertainment and comfort.
Oh god, this breaks my heart. They are already trying to ban horse-drawn carriages, but we should start a petition too. This is infuriating.
Here, I found the official petition from NYCLASS to ban it: http://www.nyclass.org/petition
So I used to drive clydesdales usually a team or two or four for parades and special events etc - pretty much like a display of the work they used to to.
I'd always go past the horses in NYC by central park and to be honest it's just a pack of gypsies squeezing as much money out of the horses as possible ... many of the horses are poorly shod - a horse needs needs to work on concrete - many of them clearly are a) older and b) in need of some attention from a farrier to correct hoof issues ...
Basically long gone is the time when horses needs to be working a 6 day week 6 hours a day - its NYC ... there is untold pollution, one of the countries worst masses of traffic, just so many factors that make this uncomfortable for them.
i think horses are carriages look gorgeous - but no these ones - it's one thing to have a team you take out once a week and enough horses to rotate, it's another thing to have these poor things out all day in an incredibly busy and volatile city.
Also side note if you see where these horses are kept - there's not field in sight ... they're in the inner city ... which to me is sad, it's overall a really ugly poor quality of life. So they benefit their owners but their owners barely take care of them.
Damn I hate to see this. I agree, the owners should be harnessed and forced to haul the horses around 12 hours a day every day.
Aww, I heard about this, couldn't bear to read, esp about horses! Poor things!
Thanks Scarlett for the petition.
There's also change.org, lots of petitions there, environmental, animals, human rights. Thank you.
I live a couple blocks from where they congregate on Central Park south; these characters are 90% scumbags and a few ok people. They bilk tourists (they even brag about it), abuse the horses, then, at the end of a very long day, drive them through mid-town traffic, which is horrible, to 37th and 11th to their shitty dirty dark warehouse for the night in tiny cramped stalls.
These horses would commit suicide if they could.
They deserve a nice house in Central Park, an actual pasture, and caring drivers who know what the hell they're doing.
we're close to getting them housed in Central Park, but the rest we'll have to keep working on.
I think the only reason half the horses and so calm and docile isn't through training it's because they are too miserable to have any spirit to act any other way and exhausted. Our clydesdales were very well trained and worked on voice command but give them NYC traffic and they would need a really experienced handler to reign them in to get through an event etc.
It's super sad.
Ok, so apparently this's a world wide problem, I also found another petition https://www.change.org/p/nyc-stop-ca...-horses-in-nyc:'(
^The horses are too weak to stomp any cars. Plus, they are being controlled. They wouldn't even be allowed to do that and would most certainly be reprimanded by their "owners" if they step out of line.
I want to break in to their warehouses/stalls in the middle of the night and free them. I really, really do. Dead fucking serious about this. Who's with me?
