"Are you independent?"-what?
So I'm at a club Sunday afternoon in the dressing room taking a break alone. And some other dancer comes in making polite conversation:
"Are you new?"
me: yeah
"How long?"
me: off and on but this is my first time in a month
"Is dancing all you do?"
me: yeah basically.
"Have you're independent? Have you always been?"
me: Um yeah...well for a while I was a student
"No I mean, are you independent? Like other things in the industry?"
me: Oh, I just dance, I don't know.
"So no extras or anything?"
me: I don't think so...So you do porn and stuff?
"Something like that. You're very beautiful"
*she walks back to the floor*
I'm not a *total* newb. But I'm probably what is still baby stripper territory. What the heck is independent? Is that an escorting thing? Was I being recruited into something? If so, what incentive just she have to get me into it? I'm confused what she was trying to imply with me, lol
Re: "Are you independent?"-what?
I'm an independent escort and I do parties as independent meaning I'm my own boss. She could be possibly looking at you as a possible dancer partner for parties. I run my own party business and I will ask girls if they are interested. But I don't come across like that and I also make sure I don't over step my boundaries with club management.
Re: "Are you independent?"-what?
Management in this club is pretty lazy and lax. I have no intention of tattling but even if I did I'm not sure if they would do anything.
And that makes sense. I had never worked with her before so I was taken off guard with the conversation. Like I know extras happen in every club but I never heard of it getting mentioned so blatantly. But then again I tend to keep to myself for the most part.
Thanks for clearing that up though. I'm glad it probably means freelance instead of some trafficking thing. I'd have felt sad for her if that was it
Re: "Are you independent?"-what?
When I read the title I assumed she was asking if you have a pimp.

Yea I could see that too.
Re: "Are you independent?"-what?
Hm yeah she seems to have left already and also a group of dude bros. I think she was asking me to join the party because I guess one of the customers earlier who said I was cute but wanted me to "open up."
But yeah the pimp thing makes sense.
Re: "Are you independent?"-what?
She was asking if you escort and if you have a pimp.
Re: "Are you independent?"-what?
... and also probably trying to recruit you to come work for her pimp. Stay away from her.

exactly that.
Re: "Are you independent?"-what?
Yes, you're independent. It's hard to know the lingo, when I started dancing girls would ask me who my man was and I was like, he's a journalist.
Re: "Are you independent?"-what?
I never worked in a strip club, but I used to get calls like that in my brief failed escorting venture. I'd get calls from girls and then they'd try to ask you stuff like that and tell you you could make more money with them or whatever. Also she might have been trying to see what you doo, to rat you out or see if she had to worry about competition. That's a weird thing to ask like that to someone you don't know. I agree, stay away from dat gyal!
Re: "Are you independent?"-what?
Lol vanessa that made me laugh because I was the same way at first. I would say "Well I'm a lesbian so..." I didn't know any better lol. Big mistake. What did this broad go and do? Practically following me around telling guys I was a lesbian and ruin the fantasy for them. I think she was jealous too because not only did she earn less than me consistently but she was giving up what she did make to some abusive piece of shit she developed Stockholm syndrome over.
That leads me to another point, OP you may get STUPID ass girls like that who just have no class or tact or any semblance of intelligence. BEWARE of the ones who are classy gorgeous and well spoken too though. They are more subtle patient persuasive with their language and in my observation more successful at recruiting baby strippers into being "managed" Hell, some dancers ARE the pimp. No joke. Be careful in this business man. Shit can get very ugly very easily. I'd just recommend keeping to yourself in general as most people itc are out for themselves.
Re: "Are you independent?"-what?
Once when I had just started dancing someone asked smth similar. I silently freaked out but managed to keep my cool and just told her I dont do stuff like that. It turned out she was just jealous and trying to intimidate me.
Funny thing is, once I had gone shopping with a friend from the club, before going in and she had forgotten her wallet, so she ended up borrowing around 200 from me. When she paid me back that same night those two new girls saw her giving me the money and heard one of them telling the other in the restroom that I am probably her pimp and that they should avoid me. They had no idea I was in the stall next to them. I washed my hands, waited for them to come out and told them that if they are interested they should let me know.
Re: "Are you independent?"-what?
She has a pimp and wants you to work with her and her pimp as one big happy hoes and pimp family.
Re: "Are you independent?"-what?
I would be totally confused by this as well. xD I probably would of just assumed she meant Independent Contractor, in which I would of answered, "aren't we all??" o.O?
The first time somebody asked me where they could get dog food I told them Wal-Mart. Took me a while to figure out it was code for heroin, wtf lmao.

Gods I get sick of lingo. It's so regional. I get to the point where I just want pretend I don't speak English and walk away. If you can't say it plainly then don't do it.
