Old school.
I'd rather scrawl a note in my own blood and send it via carrier pigeon than leave a voice mail.
I really don't like it.
Once in a while I will, but usually not. I prefer texts and emails too.
I prefer texts and e-mails to voicemail. I personally hate trying to leave a voice message I would rather put what I want to say in writing. The only reason I keep voicemail on my phone is for the few older people I l know who don't use cellphones and also when I'm job hunting prospective employers will usually be calling from a land line and may want to leave a voice message.
Leaving me voicemails used to be a total waste of time because I would literally never check them but my cell provider has an app called "visual voicemail" that turns the message into text so you can just read it instead of doing all the button pressing to check them. It does a pretty good job but struggles with names sometimes or when people have really poor diction (it will leave question marks after words it guessed at haha)
I don't mind them. Honestly, if someone calls me and doesn't leave a voicemail, I assume they didn't have an important reason for calling, and probably won't call them back. I only get annoyed if someone leaves a super long voicemail that rambles unnecessarily. I do get it, though, sometimes, like if someone is driving, needs to relay a lot of information about something, and can't take the time right then to type out a long text.
I think, like most people these days, I would just prefer texting straight-up, but if someone calls for some reason, I don't mind the 5-7 second voicemail just saying "hey, I'm calling about X, give me a call back - I'm free at xyz times." I know I have friends who never ever check their voicemail, and it drives me crazy. Cuz I'll leave them this message about "Hey, I'm calling about yadayada, and just wanted to let you know these details. I'm driving right now so just text me with an answer and let me know what you think." And then they call back and are all like "What's up?" and I have to repeat everything I just left in a message and needed a quick answer to. What time is saved by calling back and having me repeat everything in the message you didn't listen to, when you could've just listened to it and then sent a short text reply to what I said? :O There are some people I just don't bother leaving messages for anymore because I know better. I think if you're gonna do that, you should leave an outgoing message that essentially says "If this is important, please send a text or email, as I rarely check voicemail" lol
I do use it, not a lot...
I actually have 2 phones, 1 used for calling/texting, although I may use the other phone for that too occasionally
Only if it's absolutely urgent. Otherwise, no. I text for pretty much everything.
Only to screen phone calls for an unknown number.
Does anyone still have a normal phone and an answering machine?
Pokey!
Yes, I still have my old answer machine..
I'd like to hear some of the messages still on it from people who are not around anymore..
How are the Snakes?
Mostly for job related things. Otherwise no.
