Nails/manicures how you do yours?
I was just wondering how you ladies do your nails?, At home or the salon?, Gel , Acrylics or natural?, typical styles or color's?
I used to get Acrylics for 8 years! then stopped went natural for a while and now get gels done at my local salon. I would love to do my own nails with normal polish but they never look as done as at a salon. A lot of the time I a get a neutral gel then paint over when I want to change the color's because it looks neater and lasts. how are you guys taking care of your nails ?

Re: Nails/manicures how you do yours?
I refuse to spend the money on a salon job. I viewed a lot of videos on YouTube and bought the tools to learn how do the fancy stuff, but I could never make it look nice. I do buy the more expensive brands like OPI because I do my own nails. I think those brands go on smoother and more shiny. Also I use the solid colors for the same reason. If I do get something fancier I get with my sister and do each others nails.

Re: Nails/manicures how you do yours?
I used to get acrylics a lot. Unfortunately that is expensive & ruins your real nails.
If you eat well you can grow awesome strong natural nails. & Dollar store sells manicure kits. It takes a bit of time and care but guys notice nice, clean, femme nails.

Re: Nails/manicures how you do yours?
I notice a lot of girls use the glue-on packs of nails, but the only ones I can find are the big short square-looking ones that are kinda 10 years ago and don't look that good. .looking for longer ones with more of an almond or even coffin-shaped tip? Or at the very least just a longer tip I could file.
Otherwise if you're just going for shellack, they sell gel polish at Sally's

A lot of girls just file nails down....my go to at the salon was the "squoval" shape.
On topic I just ripped a long natural nail while cooking. Yes nail maintenance is a PITA

Re: Nails/manicures how you do yours?
Im going to try and see if I can do my own gels, I will look at youtube, I don't mind going to the salon but not all the time. Orly has a base that you are supposed to put under gels to protect nails and take gel off easier. I will try that. I painted my nails on Thursday and they are already messy. I don't have time to do my nails every few days.

Re: Nails/manicures how you do yours?
I go to a really nice nail shop, $20.00 for a polish change for toes.
My fingernails I don't do a lot, but I maintain cuticles w/vit e stick, keep nails clean/filed & use Tweezerman hang nail nipper
Also, use a base coat first, after polish use a top coat. Don't use the 'all in one', the base helps polish stick better, & the topper finishes it off. I use Sally Hansen Super Shine Topper.
I also use alpha hydroxy lotion/retinol on cuticles, lots of hand lotion, coconut & olive oils

There are a lot of stores on etsy that sell re-usable glue on nails with awesome designs. I get gels done at a salon so I've never tried them but some of them look amazing.

Re: Nails/manicures how you do yours?
I almost always get acrylic, they cost less and are more durable than gel although gel is easier on the nail.
I always go to the salon, but want to get all the products to do it myself if I just need a fill-in or something plain.

Re: Nails/manicures how you do yours?
Also acrylics. 33$ for refill with gel polish. I don't wear jewelry at work my nails are my thing.

Re: Nails/manicures how you do yours?
Acrylics. I always get a coffin shape. I go to a salon of course I don't know how to do that myself.

Re: Nails/manicures how you do yours?
Ballerina shape, long acrylics from a salon. Gel toes. I’m extremely picky and pay quite a bit but I like em so no big deal.

Re: Nails/manicures how you do yours?
I like to do my own nails. With fake nails I had a problem with my real nails underneath getting flaky and peeling. With one of my vanilla gigs it just takes nail polish off and I don't want to have to go to nail salon every week. I'm weird.I don't like spending money on nails, lol.

Re: Nails/manicures how you do yours?
I like OPI and Kylie Jenner's line. She has some nice colors in her nail polish line.

Re: Nails/manicures how you do yours?
Press on nails! It's annoying when they come off but salons are so expensive where I live

Re: Nails/manicures how you do yours?
Gel Manicure/Gel Pedicure about every 3 weeks = $70

Re: Nails/manicures how you do yours?
TBH I don't like acrylic nails. I used to have them and they were long. I feel like it is out of style, where I live anyway (no offense to anyone). If you like it, of course, you should do it! For me, I do french on my feet with salon pedicures (I also wear flip flops EVERY single day, and switch to sneakers for workouts and heels or cute flats for work and going out).
I am currently not dancing but planning to return very, very soon. I still feel like I am committed to short, clean nails on my hands with a solid color or maybe gel polish. I do not think most men care about length or embellishments though my BFF (straight male) has made comments to me about my nails looking like shit of they were chipped or not shaped so I do think guys take note of sloppy nails.

Re: Nails/manicures how you do yours?
I love getting my nails done, but long nails have always gotten in the way of the musical instruments I play. Since I have to keep them short, I just paint them myself with good quality polish, usually OPI.

Re: Nails/manicures how you do yours?
If you take a little time, press ons can look super good. amazon has a ton of different nail shapes for really cheap. I bought nails from a dollar store, and glue from family dollar. use nail polish remover on your bare nails to make sure theyre free from oil, and then ruff them up a bit with a nail file so the glue sticks. put glue on both fake and real nail and hold for like 30 sec or more. I saw this trick on youtube and was like yeah right, my nails will pop off in day...but it actually worked. I had my thumbnails break after over a week, so I had to replace them, but the glue would have lasted at least another week. this next time around I will just buy a little bit better nails, but the $1 glue from family dollar was amazing. the brand name is nailene. (just did a google search for nailene, and looks like you can get it anywhere, but its more expensive at other places.)

Re: Nails/manicures how you do yours?
I get the acrylics with dip powder. I usually get the coffin shape and have recently started to switch up the design that I get. I rarely get a single color and my go to design is the ombre' white tips. They look classy yet stylish and up to date. I flash my student ID and get my nails for 35 and a gel french pedicure for 30. Short and square is the way to go for my toes.

Re: Nails/manicures how you do yours?
I just got "kiss" brand acrylic nail kit with the powder and liquid and long square tips..I'm hoping I can file the tips into coffin at least, as I feel square is too early 2000s.but they're super long so yay lol. I got a cheap shimmery pinky-nude to put over them , hope I can do my right hand!

Re: Nails/manicures how you do yours?
I sell to a high-income/-net worth market who appreciates or like "classy" women. And my wonderful manager has mentioned to me that he doesn't like my nails short and clear. So I wear longer, neutral manicured nails (refill= $25-$35; gel toe nails= $30 -$40 plus a ~$20 tip, lasts 3 weeks or more.) to suit and to make more money. Although I've seen women that look like shit make more money than myself and any one else. So maybe, IT doesn't matter---

Re: Nails/manicures how you do yours?
Short and painted . I do my own hands but get my feet done 80% of the time.

Re: Nails/manicures how you do yours?
I get acrylics w/ gel and gel pedicures. Lately I've been doing french on my hands with a narrow square shape and one color on my toes. Usually reds or pinks. I go every 2 or 3 weeks. Sometimes I skip toes because gel lasts so long. Also the place I go to is a little pricier (120 ish for both with tip) but its really nice and I like my nail appt to be a little relaxing me-time so it's worth the extra money.
