How will Backpage shutdown affect strip clubs???
Hey lovely ladies,
I’m a prospective stripper planning on starting once I graduate in May. I’ve been following the SESTA/FOSTA movement and saw that Backpage has been shutdown. Link here ( https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/...own/494718002/ ) if you don’t know what it is yet. Basically it’s a website that allows sex workers to post ads about their services and screen clients has been seized due to sex trafficking as of yesterday.
Will there be more extras and escorts in the strip clubs now? I know extras already happen everywhere and I’m not here to judge but I’m not about that life and don’t want it interfering in mine. The thing that scares me most about stripping is my vanilla corporate life finding out. I’m afraid that if a club I’m stripping in got in trouble for extras that it would eventually get me into trouble. So...
I’m wondering what you all think about this? Let me know and have a beautiful day making that money!!

Re: How will Backpage shutdown affect strip clubs???
i posted something similar like riiight before you posted this and also got a PM from someone else wondering the same thing!
i do think it will be a problem, even more than it already is. and what i'm worried about is that law enforcement KNOWS it's going to happen and will start raiding clubs more to catch all the escorts they're pushing into the clubs. which will also fuck over a lot of strippers, even ones who don't do "extras" or drugs or whatever. i don't do illegal stuff but it's impossible to be a stripper nowadays without at least sometimes putting yourself around salacious activity that could incriminate you during a raid. and then there's all the minor nonsense rules they can *technically* arrest you over like taking shoes off during a vip.
i almost wonder if they intentionally want to make it easier to arrest sex workers. if they force them all into clubs and streets it will be like catching fish in a barrel.

Re: How will Backpage shutdown affect strip clubs???
Ive already noticed a few girls at my local mid tier club that I haven’t seen in yeeeears and thought they had moved on to escorting. That doesn’t mean their doing extras .. girls just trying to pay their bills and getting fucked with because of very moralistic views on the sex industry south of the border.
I live in Canada so the legalities of prostitution aren’t the same here and an alternative to backpage will come up soon but in the mean time I’m sure more backpage girls will be in the clubs.
Also a known extras club posted this on Instagram .. Attachment 49734

Re: How will Backpage shutdown affect strip clubs???
In February, sex trafficking was hailed as the excuse to raid strip clubs in New Orleans. As far as I am aware, no cases of trafficking were uncovered, but from what I have heard (correct me if I am wrong), authorities responded to the fact that there were no cases of trafficking by implementing rezoning policies, which impacted strip clubs in that they are now being rezoned to industrial areas (some even shut down).
There is nothing more insidious than injustice masked in the language of justice, and that is exactly what this SESTA/FOSTA bill is. They just want to disturb the solidarity amongst sex workers and our allies that has emerged in recent years. We should start meeting in person from time to time in case they do find a reason to shut down this site. We all need each other.

yeah holy crap i just saw they took Eccie down :O . that was a big one here. i remember a customer at work told me about it and i sometimes lurked their "strip club reviews" section. i think it was pretty big in the escort scene.. this is intense.

Re: How will Backpage shutdown affect strip clubs???
That is crazy @layla.00! I want everyone to make their money and personally think that prostitution in the US should not only be legalized but also decriminalized. But I don’t want it affecting my money and getting into what I’m trying to do — just strip. Crazy that it’s so open, something is fishy

That’s what I’m thinking! I’m glad I’m not the only one thinking this! It’s all intentional. When we’re all in the same, we’re easier to catch. Law enforcement looks at all of our work as the same - stripping is escorting is escorts. All the same for them. I have the worst luck and can just totally see me getting involved accidentally by being at the wrong place at the wrong time.

I’ve been seeing lots of gatherings from strippers I follow in various cities via social media but we need like one whole entity. We need numbers to protect us. As sex workers are prevailing recently, they need a reason to stop our flow of money and rights. This is going to affect everyone and I am truly scared. Sad :/

^^^ This. I found this resource, they have a Get Involved section and you can fill it out: https://survivorsagainstsesta.org/
It's a way to try and connect with others near you, at least. In the meantime I will say that I am willing to meet with others and participate in meetings. I can be anywhere my support and solidarity is needed on this in the U.S.

It’s a bit different where I live because there are clubs that are ONLY extras clubs and they are fairly open about that. Girls don’t want to do dances and get annoyed when that’s what a customer is looking for. There’s about ten or fifteen of these places in my area and I feel like the girls from backpage will probably just end up going there. Extras rates are higher than backpage rates so it’s not totally bad but it’ll probably be very saturated with girls.
I think the backpage shutdown will mostly affect these clubs and clubs in small towns. I’m not really worried about the higher end places.

Re: How will Backpage shutdown affect strip clubs???
I heard it’s just an easy way for them to shut down any website they want, like all that has to happen is that someone posts a comment that could be interpreted the wrong way (thus the very broad “fuzzy” language in the bill). I knew there was a bigger reason they were doing this, either money or control.
As said above, the dives will have this happen (it happens already) but the higher end places won’t be affected as much.

Re: How will Backpage shutdown affect strip clubs???
I wonder how this will affect websites with camgirls that might be in the US or elsewhere? The language in the bill is far reaching and broad enough that it could be used for camgirl websites that aren't actually registered in the US but who broadcast within the US. And what about dating sites and dating apps? Will those get flooded with professionals seeking clients? Or sugar baby sites? How will the cookie crumble?
-
Re: How will Backpage shutdown affect strip clubs???
The real reason why they do anything of this is tax dollars.

I concur.....
Be careful what ya post on public threads.
I also have a feeling that while people are trying to find answers and support in online threads. Info that is given, that is helpful to women (and men) in adult industry, will be used against them to further the law makers/politicians agenda.

I think cam sites are starting to realize how the laws could affect them as many of them are changing their TOS.
I think dating apps where people are more likely to hookup + financial incentives will be under the microscope.

can you elaborate? genuinely curious- you can pm me if you'd rather. i didn't think much of it cuz like i said, i don't break the rules at work, but maybe that's just me being selfish or just not really thinking before saying things, idk

Re: How will Backpage shutdown affect strip clubs???
I used to scroll through backpage to see if I was working alongside with any hookers way before it shut down.
Yes. Yes. Yes. More girls are at the club who used to spend more time on backpage. Luckily, I've let my management know. So they have their eyes on them. I'm not competing with full on prostitutes. I outed them hard core.
-
Re: How will Backpage shutdown affect strip clubs???
Well if management cares about their club staying open, they're gonna have to be strict. Who wants to risk their club getting shut down? Some ppl assume strippers are escorts, so.... I wouldn't be shocked if clubs get more undercovers than usual now.
-
Re: How will Backpage shutdown affect strip clubs???
Shit! Feel bad for escorts, but I really don’t want to have deal with that shit in the club. Cross fingers. No way of knowing for sure, but the girls have to eat somehow

Re: How will Backpage shutdown affect strip clubs???
I really wish that these types of threads could be moved to Ladies Only or somewhere else where only we could see it and not the general public..

Just because you’re an escort doesn’t mean youre incapable following the rules in the club.

California's zoning rules for strip clubs have been as strict as the ones imposed in NOLA recently.
We have to adjust and adapt. And vote! Don't vote for politicians that approve of unwarranted intrusion on privacy.

Sorry, but from what I've seen extras have been rampant for a good few years now and management for the most part doesn't care as long as the guys keep coming in. I see a lot of posts from girls - including me - hoping to find a clean place to work. I know a lot say they aren't judging or it's not their concern, but honestly it hurts my money and makes my job more difficult and risky. I don't want to be around when a club gets raided. If someone wants to offer sexual services that's fine, but can it be kept out of the strip club?

Re: How will Backpage shutdown affect strip clubs???
Men and escorts will find ways.
