Bouncer's not looking out for girls
This is mainly going to be a rant, but I'm just so upset. Last night some dickhead customer was standing next to the stage filming me on his cell phone. His arms were completely out stretched. There was zero mistaking what he was doing. Another dancer stopped him and I immediately left the stage to go his a bouncer, even though they SHOULD have seen it. I tell the bouncer and he says "ok". Another dancer literally had to bring the guy who filmed me over to the bouncers in order for them to do anything. There's always three or four bouncers at all times on the weekends. They just stand around the door chit chatting amongst themselves instead of, oh I don't know, looking out for the girls????? I was already mad from the asshole filming me, but I was just shocked and honestly hurt by the response from the bouncers. Dancer's should not have to physically bring a problematic customer to the bouncers for them to do their damn job. It puts us in an unsafe situation. I left immediately after telling the manager about the whole thing and he said he would deal with it, but I'm still just so frustrated that it even happened. It would have been completely avoidable if the bouncers were actually paying attention instead of just standing around. The whole thing was just really upsetting and I've been feeling depressed to the point I don't even want to go back in tonight. This was at the "best" club in town so its not even like its an option for me to switch clubs unless I want to make less money. I'm just mad. And sad. I honestly just can't wait to be done school and get a normal job and not have to deal with bullshit like this ever again.
Re: Bouncer's not looking out for girls
most times they are on point but every now and then they slack off. that's why you really just gotta be on your toes and vigilant (which sounds like you were) and then just report to manager when people don't do their job (which you did).
the bouncers are supposed to make them open up their camera and delete the file. the good thing for victims of video pirating is that most times camera phone video quality is not good in dark club lighting so even if he did manage to keep the video, i doubt it captured any quality footage.
BUt you are right. The bouncers should have been better at noticing them and taking appropriate action. And the manager should give you an explanation/a followup of how he "dealt with it".
Also I'd make sure the club has signs on the outside that informs patrons cellphone recording/pictures is prohibited (this way bouncers can enforce the rule through making them delete the footage and asking them to leave)
Re: Bouncer's not looking out for girls
Sorry you had to deal with that, I worked with some before and its annoying. I reported them and they got better, hopefully the ones at your club will too.
Re: Bouncer's not looking out for girls
I totally get why that would make you feel depressed and not want to go back. People often think that it would be customers to break my stride, but it's often staff/management that break my trust and make me feel defeated in this work. I try to remind myself that in this industry, we're often put in a position to fend for ourselves and I try not to get too close or trusting of anyone to do what's best for me. It's easier to not get hurt or disappointed that way. So sorry that happened, it's literally their JOB to protect you from that bullshit.

This is part of why I wanna quit dancing in the near future if I can. It pisses me off that mgmt/bouncers/DJs all expect a handout from us but the 1 time you ask them for anything they don't deliver.

That's when I would stop tipping out period.
Re: Bouncer's not looking out for girls
When I worked in the Twin Cities I found that most managers and bouncers don't enforce the rules on customers, they yell at the girls instead, and you are on your own in VIP.
In rural clubs, where dances are all in the open, I have found the staff watches out for you.
I try to directly tip anyone who helps me, and stay away from those that don't.

for every one guy you catch filming, there are probably 20 to 30 that nobody saw....its pretty much to be expected in this day and age
if you think you have never been filmed on stage before, think again

Maybe you just wandered in but this thread is for sharing support not defeatism and talking to the OP like she can't discuss this. So it's not "to be expected" that she'll be filmed and the security will sit there like they don't care and allow it.
Re: Bouncer's not looking out for girls
^Exactly!
Especially If the club has notices not to film - then she most certainly has a right not to be filmed.
Dancers sign up to live dance only - to be filmed whilst dancing is not in their job description. And filming someone without their knowledge/approval could have legal ramifications.
Some clubs are more "social media" / promote -y and allow filming in the club. Even still the ladies have to consent to being filmed/photographed. If you are a dancer and want your privacy then ensure you work at clubs that do not allow cameras inside and the rules are enforced.
