Re: Veterans. Then and now. Changes?
^It just sucks tho that the Midwest is actually good because it is one of the least desirable places for me to move to/live being from the west coast and a little spoiled with scenery. I'm not saying all of the Midwest is ugly and boring just the places I've found there to be good money by my standards are rather shitty.
The part of the Midwest I actually fell in love with doesn't seem to be the place to go for a dancer to make money. I could be wrong tho as I didn't work there- was too caught up being a tourist lmao.
Also some of these Midwest states have insane overall taxes like holy shit I was shocked when I dove into the topic some more.
Sorry, threadjack!!!!!

Re: Veterans. Then and now. Changes?
Where in the Midwest were you staying? I've lived in the Midwest most of my life. Also I promise the Midwestern states have WAY lower taxes than all three of the West Coast states.

Re: Veterans. Then and now. Changes?
I started back in the very early 2000 a year or two after getting out of high school. One thing that I'm glad that has changed is the quality of boob jobs. When I first started at the age of 20, the veterans of that day who had started back in the early to mid 90s had by today's standard, hideous looking boob jobs. I always thought it looked like they stuff 2 basketballs in their boobs. At least today they look and feel natural. Fortunately for me, being a 34C, I never had to worry about getting a boob job.
Back then, there was no smartphones, no iPods, no YouTube. We actually had to hustle the whole night to keep from getting bored. Nowadays I see all these newbie young girls wasting time on their cell phones. You can't make money when you're cruising on Facebook.
The quality of the club's today is much better. Most of the so-called upscale high-end clubs that I worked at in the early 2000s would just be another run-of-the-mill club by today's standards. There's more clubs today which means more competition which means if you're going to be a successful Club you have to think outside the box and be one step better than the next Club.
Back in the day, other than weed, I don't think other drugs like cocaine or ecstasy, although they were in the clubs, I don't think it was as easy and thought of as no big deal to buy from or sell to a client as it is today. Of course it was going on back then, and you knew it was but by today's standards, it has more of a no-big-deal attitude. More girls are doing it, and they're for the most part they're not as discreet about it and it's easier and viewed as no big deal to either buy or sell to your client. Of course you don't want to get caught by the managers. It just seems like today it has a more nonchalant, no big deal attitude towards it. I've noticed over the years that girls are more and more becoming Maybe a little more care less or just carefree and not worried if other girls see you with it before they can hide it. It just seems like nobody is shocked or even cares if someone has it.
Quality of lingerie and outfits has gotten much better and much more sexy and with the internet, much easier to buy. I look back at old pictures from the early to mid-2000s and I'm almost embarrassed to look at some of the things that at the time were thought of as super sexy. I wouldn't be caught dead in some of that stuff now LOL.
And yeah, Club rules were for the most part more often obeyed back then than they are today. Girls seem to get away with a lot more today then they did back in the day. And a lot of clubs are getting more and more strict with what type of girl they want working there. The club I work at on the north side of Houston requires that you live within a certain distance, you have to be fit and in shape. They're pretty strict on tattoos and how big they are and where they're located.

Re: Veterans. Then and now. Changes?
Back in my day the drug du jour was cocaine. Now it's rabid liberal feminism. Which is ironic because most feminists hate strippers and sex workers. But hey whatever floats your boat.

Lmao depends on where you live. Here in Indiana, we Feminist Strippers are few & far between.

Re: Veterans. Then and now. Changes?
I'm wondering if anyone thinks there would be any room for old school veterans in this day in age. I guess I mean selling the fantasy, elaborate stage shows and the old school "stripper " look. I assume younger crowds would find it cheesey but I'm assuming the old school older guys appreciate a true "showgirl " or is that market kind of dead? I haven't danced for ten years and haven't kept in touch with my old regulars so I have no idea how the market is. I wonder with all the Covid rules if the focus will bring a resurgence of the show club and air dance or if those days are gone forever .

Re: Veterans. Then and now. Changes?
Ah geez... This type of topic always seem to pop up once in a blue moon.
The changes are, to me, the strip club consumers, or customers. It's almost completely change in the last 5 years.
The consumers who supported this industry and made it into a lucrative gig of making quick big cash and to support a luxury lifestyle for us women, are now retired. These consumers were the Baby Boomer generation who grew up with limited amount of entertainment options while benefited from FDR economic policies.
Now, the world has changed. Giving mass population with a greater amount of options with low prices and renewal availability : Internet, video games, free porn, on-demand viewing services etc
-
Re: Veterans. Then and now. Changes?
I do agree with this. The 80s, 90s and before the '08 crash was the prime environment for exotic dancing. The Baby Boomers fueled the industry.
-
Re: Veterans. Then and now. Changes?
Yeah, those times, strip clubs had that mysterious aura from the public's point-of-view. Made men want to come in and have a fun time. Now, it's all open in social media and those then-young guys who were burnt in the 90's, 2000's and early-2010's can now pass their ways-of-error strip club experience online, spreading malcontent to younger generations and potential consumers.
In my middle and high school days, I could remember hearing boys being content of going to strip clubs once they become adults. Now, I just hear teenagers just straight mocking strip-club-going men or the idea of "paying women without getting some."
I've heard back then, strip clubs used to pay dancers hourly like $10/hr. I could be wrong but that would be awesome to have it.
-
Re: Veterans. Then and now. Changes?
Wow, yes I heard of dancers getting paid hourly as well as collecting tips. That was before my time though. I danced from 2002-2011. House Fees were high but the money made you could make made if justifiable. Very interesting how the industry. developed and morphed.

Like the modern burlesque stuff but for the 80s?

Re: Veterans. Then and now. Changes?
I don't know , I guess. I'm just trying to anticipate where the industry will go.

Re: Veterans. Then and now. Changes?
I got sick of having to "over hustle" these idiots back in 2016 when I stopped. It wasn't worth it anymore to me. I mean hell, when I really try & I'm not lazy I make the same amount online than I did dancing without the headache of going into the club also dealing with the asshole mngrs.
Another thing I hated was the whole everyone trying to film everything *eyeroll*
Also how mngrs were starting to become absolute schedule nazis in my last years of dancing, completely disregarding the IC status we had.

the best thing about doing online sex work to me is not having a manager! I def made more money in the club and had great nights, but not dealing with asshole mangers and other girls has been a huge stress relief!

same. I miss club money. I don’t miss club drama, or guy trying to kiss and suck on me. Gross! I heard a girl say camming is friendly to older dancers and it so is. Clubs generally are for young folks that wants the strip club experience (they aren’t spending just watching someone else) vs the old guys back in the day where it was for sensual entertainment. I would recommend older girls to cam. Camming is easier on your body. I can’t imagine getting on my knees and crawling around for a dollar...lol. No thanks!
-
Re: Veterans. Then and now. Changes?
I think veteran dancers know how to entertain and sell conversation better. Having that skill will help you in any other sales job, or any other type of sex work. Learning how to be a more engaging and charming is something I was happy I got out of dancing.

It was so hard on my body sometimes! And the pressure to drink...that can really wear on your body too.
Yes we have a lot of options now that we didn’t have years ago which is so awesome.

Re: Veterans. Then and now. Changes?
^ I second the feeling like you have to drink to take the edge off. OMG I was so sick of drinking everynight to overcome my shy/awkwardness so I could hustle. I def don't miss that! I also love that I don;t need or feel self concious about my weight anymore, camming fixed that :) I actually do better at my current weight which would appall most club mngrs if I even tried to get hired *eyeroll*
In the future I might try dancing again if I found a dive that would hire me on spot for a few nights here & there but now? NO way! I wouldn't feel safe anyway due to covid.

that feeling of having to appease a manager sucks!!! I remember when I got sick of my dirty blonde and went full blonde. They brought a second manager out to discuss it and after I did a dance in the back was told “I don’t think I like the color”
girl I worked at a super strict club and I gained a few pounds one time and texted the manager My face looked red and he made a trip through the dressing room when I arrived to check if I was fine to be on the floor lolll. I was the smallest one there! 5’7” 115 to 119 is not gonna kill anyone. “I like your new booty” Some of these guys!!!
It’s nice not feeling bad about yourself if you gain weight working independently...well sometimes.

Re: Veterans. Then and now. Changes?
How about day shift in clubs? I wonder if they would still be profitable for veterans. If I go back to dancing I think I would only do a day shift. I just wonder if older guys still go out in this Covid era.

I had a friend that works at a dive bar. She just wears a mask. Obviously she’s making money if she’s going into work. I didn’t ask how much. I think the only way to know for sure is to see for yourself. Is it “worth it” to you is not gonna be the same as “worth it” to me.
The clubs were horrible before the pandemic. I can’t imagine things being better?
-
Re: Veterans. Then and now. Changes?
Oh no, I didn't realize it was horrible before Covid. :( I wonder how clubs will retain dancers if it is a struggle nowadays.
-
Re: Veterans. Then and now. Changes?
^ Honestly, all you can do is give it a shot and see how you feel. And yes, older guys still do go out, at least as far as I can tell. Idk if that is a club specific thing or what. The summer after shut down #1 is when I built a few regulars during the day at one particular club.

Ya in LA esp but it was also happening in other states as well for me. I did what I wanted anyway LOL which is why I was always a target for them. I don't miss having to stand my grand for my IC status I rightfully had. It was such an awesome feeling when I was stacking dances & VIPS after of course I was deemed "not allowed on stage" at 180lbs LOL
I was one of the only gals there that night leaving with $800 on a Sat night. Managers seemed to have gotten waaaay overy strict about weight these last 10 years or so ugh *eyeroll*
If the dancer is heavier & making $ anyway who gives a fuck?! Let her make that coin, afterall the club is getting a cut anyway. People care way too much about weight.

Re: Veterans. Then and now. Changes?
Right, thanks for the info.
