What do you have from camming/clip making?
Sorry girls! This is such a personal question and I respect not many will want to answer. But here goes.
I also posted this on the other cam girl forum (just to gain wider perspective)
Basically, after knowing many models within the industry and lurking on forums for years and obviously been doing this a long time myself. I seem to hear a lot of models that either have no savings/home owners/anything of value after years at working in this industry.
I also hear so many models living paycheck to paycheck.
I can't understand why and to be honest find it frightening. I'm also one of those girls, which I always made excuses as to why I don't have any of that stuff sitting behind me after years of plugging away at this.
It's such a good paying job whether you are camming or clip making or indie, it's way more per hour than any vanilla job out there.
So I guess I am looking for inspiration, have you managed to build up 'stability' or value within your life financially from this career choice? How long did it take you?
I know we have perks with the job but ultimately we all work for the money.
And also why do you think this industry is lacking wealthy women? (The percentage of those seem very small in comparison to how many models out there)

Re: What do you have from camming/clip making?
I think there are two main reasons. First, this job has a lot of freedom which creates a ton of responsibility. It's really really easy to make enough to get by and then slack off for the rest of the week/month/whatever. I'm super guilty of that.
Second, most people have poor money management skills, and cam models are just like everyone else. (Not to be rude, I have issues there too)

GUILTY!
Of both of those things lol. I tend to make allot of money in a very short space of time, either one hour or weeks goal in one day. And then give myself the week off and I feel I only do that because ultimately I don't really enjoy the job, so I will use any good reason to not do it. It's almost like earning my weeks goal in one day, does me a huge favour of not having to work in this for the rest of the week.
Yeah, poor money management. I am way better than what I used to be. But still not great.

So yes I had a reality check with myself and realized I have no retirement savings for myself. I've starting putting 15% of every pay into my RSP and TFSA it's a canadian thing.
I've also started planning launching a new blog wealthycamgirl domain is purchased just need to find a host for the the blog and plan out youtube video content.
over the last year when I took financial peace university from dave ramsey I realized that yes my mental illness ruined a lot of things financially for me but now that I am considered in recovery and "normal" my head has been obessed with making money and establishing my savings and future planning.
saving money is just discipline. it's not even about how much you are making it's just knowing your money and giving your money a job.
so I've been working on my budget broke and my income spread sheet. and I did make a video about of financial journey on my youtube channel but the day I recorded it I was soo emotionally attached to my mistakes that I plan on making a new video of that topic again.
it's not even about taxes it's about how you want to live your life and giving every dolllar you make a job.
so yea 18 to 33 where some great income earnings years but I need to take charge.

Re: What do you have from camming/clip making?
Various reasons but the three that stand out is:
1)No month is the same. Most people work x amount of hours and make x amount of money, with us we never know what we are making day by day.
2)Burn out. Again most people work a 40 hour week, to "entertain" infront of a camera for 40 hours is a whole other ball game.
3)Undercutting of prices as technology develops and more people turn to camming. Back when i first started hardly anyone was doing camming and prices 13 years ago were only slightly lower than today. Why? People have less disposable income to spend on models and you are undercut by "free cam sites".

Re: What do you have from camming/clip making?
First of all let me preface that I am NOT bragging, just being honest and since no one here has said anything about what they have acquired I will tell you,
16 yrs on cam
Bought a house with no money down, now I have $130000 in equity in the home
purchased, refrigerator, oven , washer , dryer , $5k air conditioner, water heater etc etc
$10,000 breast implant and lift
I have purchased 2 - $40000 Suv's and leased a $40000 car
I supported 2 sons by myself who are both in college one almost has his Finance Degree now
I have excellent credit ( almost 800)
$16000 in cash
$9000 in investments..
Most of this I got since 2012 when I was tired of being BROKE.. I sat down wrote out a budget and started looking at investments.. started with $5 a week .. and adding $1 a day to my retirement fund
None of this came without blood, sweat, tears.. crying anguish, depression sadness... unhappy.. etc etc.. I sometimes t hink it was NOT worth it.. and I should have more than this..
Good luck.. get on budget and start investing something everyday or every week if you can.. most importantly.

We are not special many industries have high and low months of making money, if you have horrible money management skills you won't have anything left.

You should feel awesome about that. Really.
Quite an accomplishment for one person to do!
Most who have that much have it because there are two incomes but you did all that on one, plus supporting others in addition!

Re: What do you have from camming/clip making?
Thanks, haha I am exhausted just writing that.. I forgot to include the $10,000 boob job.. for me it helps to write this out to see that I have actually done something with my life so far...lol.. When I feel down and out.

Yes, I always say it starts with just $1.. don't think about how long it will take you to get to 10 grand or whatever your goal.. just do something everyday.. I focus on income rather than debt.. more income producers you have the debt is taken care of for you... kinda what you always preach these days.

between my forex trading team and attending events for affiliate marketing, and just looking at my opportunity of being in Canada making US dollars from home. I have a really great opportunity in front of me still and to blow it over making stupid mistakes I would hate to be 75 and broke or worst eating cat food.

I can so relate to the not wanting to go on cam once I make my weekly goal. I don't love the job, but I do love the freedom. However I'm starting to change my mind set. Until the end of the year, I just need to work my ass off, no excuses! I don't want to cam forever and need to set myself up for the future.

Re: What do you have from camming/clip making?
Ugh This topic is so real!! I know so many huge famous porn stars from back in the day. Gals that can still make an appearance on a porn set, no sex needed and get paid $2000 or more just because they are legends and they do it. Why? Because they still need the money! They have houses and cars but nothing is fully paid for. I see it with new girls entering the industry (I say girls because 1 they get paid more on an individual bases and two I dont know many gay pornstars so I cant speak for them) and they start making big $$ and immediately start spending big $. HOWEVER, I see this with young individuals throughout the labor force regardless of the industry!! We have poor spending habit.
I blame Freud. Well not exactly him but his nephew. We live in a time when we indulge our egos desires to want and want and want and because of this we dont save our money or invest it. This concept of saving and investing is way over most peoples heads. Every single thing I own I own. I dont pay interest on anything! If I need something and I cant afford it I buy the thing I can afford, I wait and save the cash or I get a pay by loan (meaning if I pay it off in the time allotted I am not charged interest).
So its not about the industry but its true that once we start to make big money we start to spend big money instead of realizing that we should be squirreling it all away so we dont end with up with nothing.
Now a positive story. My friends in Germany (husband and wife team) are both porn star and twice a month they put on Gangbangs as well plus shoot their own content. They did this for years and saved there $. She does a lot of escorting and he also holds down a regular job working for the government. Couple years back they took their savings and built a brand new house. Estimated at about a half a million today they only paid about 200.000.000 euros for it and they own it. Nothing to be paid monthly. On top of this they travel the world every year and they now have a 4 year old child. They are comfortable. They want for nothing. So it really can be done but it means you have to save save save and learn to invest.

Re: What do you have from camming/clip making?
Thank you for all your input/experiences/stories.
Not sure if I should run away now whilst I can haha
So really, the issue is NOT the industry at all. It's perhaps in the fact that this industry in particular A: Brings in pretty good money hourly/daily/weekly. and B: Brings in money fast (no plugging away 5 years to see success but quite instant success in many cases and C: Can be (depending who you ask) deemed as "easy money" for many people, working from home with no commute, time freedom and camming 5 hours a day is pretty darn easy compared to what they used to do.
And it looks like these factors trigger something off in majority of us to make us instantly want to spend spend spend (especially if you come from being broke, it can really feel like your rich when your not) which then results in people wasting money rather than being wise with it.
Then you end up like me, done with my good earning years, too frustrated to earn good money and broke lol.
So not the industry at all, just the effect it can have and the people with bad money habits.
Remind me again, WHY don't they teach this in schools?

Re: What do you have from camming/clip making?
I've often heard it said that people who are used to being poor will spend money quickly when they get it because they're not used to having it and have some subconscious fear that it will disappear.
I used to have fairly good spending habits before I started camming, I worked a low paid job but I would save a little bit of money each week. But after camming and various life events it just feels impossible not to spend that money when I have it, if I have it. I'm working a lot more recently and hoping to start having a normal income and saving up money yada yada but for most of my camming life I would just make enough money to get by and then log off and play video games or go out and get drunk or whatever.
When I got into camming it wasn't the idea of wealth that drew me but the idea of having time to myself and a life outside of work.

i am already in the low income neighbourhood that i can not move out because rent is $2,000 ish for downtown. I don't want to be like the old people in my building who are litterally dying in the building ebcause they been here 20 or more years.
I am at 10 years right now and I am trying to get the to replace my kitchen counter top. like really so my ass has to hustle, even with my damn medication always making hungry and tried. every thought I have I have to push myself to do the opposite.
ignore my family and their BS non sense. they love thier miserable jobs staying there pass retirement because they have to work.
there are the other example of people I don't want to live like.
I am doing everything I can to stay on my meds even though parts of me thinks my non-med self would make soo much more money. it's a new normal I gotta put myself in. and some days it really sucks.
since i am already at the bottom as it is with my community supports and where ia m living. its stay focus and commitment and screw everyone else's opinions. unless they are able to give me $5,000 US dollars a month until I reach 75.

broke teachers can not teach anyone how to be wealthy or even how to live within their means. majority are living in debt or pay check to pay check because they don't take responsibility for their own lives, especially if they are math teacher, or social studies / family studiies whatever.
I've beeen diving into Dave Ramsey , Grant Cardone, Loral Langermeire and Gail Vaz-Oxlade and a bunch of financial bloggers. and youtube channels,
head knowledge I got it , my behaviour and litterally giving myself rewards for certain goals is what keeps me most of the time.
which is why the spreadsheet when I put the numbers down they do not lie , it's simple 1 is always 1, and basic math of addtion, subtract, divide and multiply.
Also this app listables has a 52 week money challenge, I went in my spreadsheet made one where any dollar amount bill I save and saw what was possible and I wanted to slap myself then made a next one for $10,000.
Since video games are a big thing, I turned money into a game on every thing in my life from repairing my credit, to what I want to max out in retirement contributions and how much I need save to rent a better apartment. I look at it daily same with the spreedsheet daily. it's always a yes or no thing and sometimes a half/half

Re: What do you have from camming/clip making?
Money management is the key. I struggled with that for so long and just recently discovered the secret. There was a talk that I listened to that explained it, I believe it was a TED talk or something like that. But he explained how to 'think like a millionaire' (or something along those lines).
When you get a paycheck of $x, immediately divide it. 20-30% for taxes, 30% for investment back into the business, 30% for personal savings, and the rest as spending money.
I.E. you get $100 check from anywhere (camming, clip site, phone sex operating, etc).
Put $20-30 into a savings account to pay your taxes at the end of the year, $30 in a checking account for business expenses only (new camera, equipment, clothing, etc), and another $30 into a different savings account that is pure savings (emergency, rainy day, etc)((you should strive to have a 3-6 month savings cushion as an emergency fund)). And the rest you can use for bills/pampering/etc.
If you are just starting out, don't upgrade your equipment until you have enough that your bills are paid for with the extra. It's not necessary. Or only upgrade from a wishlist when someone sends you a giftcard (that's what I do and my entire wardrobe and studio equipment have been paid this way).
EDIT: Basically, start thinking that every check you get isn't $x. Instead a $100 check is actually $10-20 in your pocket. It's an entirely different mindset.

Check out Dr. John Demartini’s “The Values Factor” and his “6 Steps to Wealth”. They go hand in hand and were a game changer for me.
