How old is too old to get back into dancing?
Hi ladies,
The more I think about getting back into the game, the older I get, so it's time for me to s#*+ or get off the pole...
Close to 10 years ago, dancing was my full time job, and I loved it. I was making $2,000 a week and working towards a goal I never attained, due to leaving the industry over negativity that I didn't have the wisdom to deal with, but do now.
However, that was 10 years ago. My body is actually in better shape than it was back then, but it doesn't change the fact that I'm 37 going into a world of women almost half my age. Most people mistake me for being 5-10 years younger as a civilian, but I'm worried about my boobs and how I look naked. They're small, but not perky.
Has anyone gone back into the industry after 35 years of age, and what was your experience? I really just want to finish what I initially started but failed to do, over inexperience, lack of wisdom, and not knowing about the wealth of resources this site provides.

It’s good to be realistic, dancing isnt something we can do forever-just like athletes. As long as you can play the game that’s all that matters.

You might be surprised by how many mid- to late-thirties (and older) dancers are out there. I am your age and I went back last year after a six-year break. I only regret not going back sooner.

Wow, so you were in the same situation I'm in! I feel a lot better knowing I'm not alone in this. How did you find going back after such a long stretch? I'm nervous I'm not going to have the tolerance and patience I once had when I was younger and less misanthropic.

Do it. Some of the girls I know that make the most money are your age. Go for it.

Dancing has been so much better this time around! I'm older and less tolerant now too, but I'm so much better at knowing/enforcing my boundaries. You don't need as much patience when your patience isn't constantly being tested, you know? I know which types of clubs and shifts suit me and my hustle style. My relationship with customers there is much less adversarial. I also learned I enjoy dancing way more when it's a side hustle and not my main source of income.
People over-estimate the negative effects of aging--most of which can be counter-acted with diet, exercise, skin care, good styling and plastic surgery. And they under-estimate the positive side effects: greater self-knowledge, a heightened sense of your mortality, a new appreciation for your physical body and what it's still capable of, disregard for other peoples' opinions of you, etc.
Being a stripper is already an unconventional choice, and there's real power in owning it when you're past the age where people say you're supposed to be able to capitalize on your appearance.

As professional athletes the general mental and physical capability is by 45 or near this age, so I believe this would hold true to stripping professionally too.

37 totally isn't really that old yet.... I'm 38 and I recently made the decision to start dancing soon, after getting back into camming at age 37, following a 10-year break from it. It's all about the confidence you exude, not necessarily if your body is "perfect" or not. Physically, as long as you're remembering to stretch and self-care, you should be able to bounce back to where you were at before, or better.

Thank you all for your thoughtful and helpful responses; I feel so much more confident about going back after hearing your personal stories and advice. You all are amazing.

Re: How old is too old to get back into dancing?
Pfffft. Please. I tend to view youth quite contemptuously, to be honest. It's a commodity that is bestowed indiscriminately. I look better at 37 than I ever did at 27. Anybody can be young.
I had some teenybopper try to age shame me and another veteran (also a huge top earner) "I wouldn't want to be stripping at 40."
I took a look at the FUPA hanging over her TJ maxx panties and her Payless pleb heels. "Honey, you may be half our age but ya weigh twice as much. "
She shut up REAL QUICK. I can clap back just as hard.

Let's just say that if she was to walk around naked in public there would be zero chance of her genitals being exposed. ::)

Never.
I know some girls who are past 45 and still dancing.

Re: How old is too old to get back into dancing?
I retired at 32, after having danced for 15 years. These days, I've been working as a strip club DJ since then! But, I see lots of 'older' ladies still make it in this business. You've got several things going for you:
1. Those younger girls can't hold a conversation with customers like you can. Your experience will let you land better sales in this business, and more loyal customers
2. You aren't in a stage of learning and you can use your experience to your advantage
I would suggest dayshift, that's where you will really shine! I switched to days after I turned 30, it really was less stressful, less drama, and better money in the long run. Less fees and more freedom. Less stage rotation too. Plus my nights were free to go have fun.
You could always do what I did and maybe get a job bartending or working the door, that way your'e still in the business without all the hassle of dealing with customers the way the dancers do

Re: How old is too old to get back into dancing?
I started dancing at 36. I'm 40 now and I bank more than I did when I started. I still work nights and I can still make an incredible living working 2 nights per week.
You're not too old.

Re: How old is too old to get back into dancing?
I'm in my mid 30's and still dance. But I also work in a lap dance club and honeslty wouldn't want to be on the stage lol. I'm more on the thick side and do great for lap dancing but wouldn't do well in clubs that do most of the business on stage.

Re: How old is too old to get back into dancing?
Honestly your body will tell you when it's time to quit going onstage before any manager will shove you off...….
When your knee joints say "noooooo I'm not doing another bunch of stages" listen......

Re: How old is too old to get back into dancing?
Whenever she wants!
I'm 31 and don't intend on stopping anytime soon! Sunscreen, prescription retinoids, sculptra/voluma injections, gym, good diet, teeth whitening, and keeping up with the club fashion has me looking better than I didn't at 23. Back at 23 I just cruised on my youth and natural thinness and didn't take care of myself. I didn't know shit or really earn shit. Now I have the knowledge and honestly better looks than I started with. People laugh at me for wearing sunscreen everyday and "obsessively" reapplying..being on point with my diet and weight training, not eating sugar or drinking. which is fine cause I'm laughing all the way to the bank with 0 wrinkles and many more years left in me.
Age doesn't mean anything , if you look good and got the hustle that's all that matters

Re: How old is too old to get back into dancing?
Heavy drinking and drugs will age you very fast. I’ve seen too many horrible looking women who partied too much. That’s the real reason why age matters, because these women start that shit at 19 or 20 then look horrible at 30. Meanwhile I got laughed at for not drinking it getting into drugs and can still make money. Honestly....i lie to customers about my age and they believe me. So....does age really matter if you can still make that money? Retire when you stop making money or when you feel like it. If a manager says shit to you about age...just hold your head up high...and try another place. Sometimes even not getting hired at a particular club can be a blessing in disguise

Re: How old is too old to get back into dancing?
I think acceptance goes along way and knowing when people say shit it’s part of their programming- social conditioning-helps. I personally like variety. Everyone truly has something offer, but accepting that we work in industry where there are superficial standards helps. I can’t really be mad about it, it’s just dumb when I’m hot AF and someone is trying to devalue me based on my age. Whatever. Age is nothing but a number. Our whole society programs us for all sorts of irrational beliefs- that’s nothing new. It sucks, but what can I do about it. Quality guys will want quality woman who is attractive and good company. I’ve always thought that even before I was mature dancer I was totally hot for the older women I worked with.

Re: How old is too old to get back into dancing?
not 39 apparently.
;)
I went back after 3-4 years off. Mostly for the adventure ( I won't do it nearly as often ) but I made a little $ and managed to not fall on my ass.
I do always get guessed for younger so why not ?
