For Alll Newbie Entertainers
I have seen the same questions asked over and over again in many threads, simply because people just either dont wish to look or yeah, so here is a nice checklist for all newbies no matter your town from a club viewpoint.
1- Have all your identification in order. IE Drivers license, State Issued ID Card, Passport, Sheriff Card, Dancer License.
Clubs do not hire undocumented dancers if they are legit. There is enough legal drama to deal with for normal operation, than to to create more by dealing with someone with questionable documentation.
Larger cities require background checks for some of the above documentation, Sheriffs Cards, BioVerify, Dancers License for Vegas, Dallas, and West Palm Beach respectively and others have followed suit. One phone call can find out if they are needed and what steps to follow in getting them. This simple step will do wonders for the hiring process.
2- Applications with a Head and Body picture Clothed are normal.
Not all Interviews are with the final say in Hiring. The pictures are used for reference so the actual Hiring body who may not have been the one who did the interview has some visual idea who they are hiring or calling back.
3- Contracts outlining all your responsibilities are normal in larger clubs IE Top Tier Upscale, not so much in your hole in the wall strip malls
Clubs with Affluent guests do not run as a dive bar, and have standards. The contract will have these standards in black and white and always if the club is again legit, will give the entertainer a signed copy for themselves and keep one on file at the club.
4- Auditions are normally done at certain times called off hours. This is the same as in the regular bar or nightclub industry.
If the club is open for dayshift as most decent clubs are, off hours are the times after lunch right before happy hour 2-4 pm. If only open for evening then 4-8 when the club is still gaining momentum for the night is proper and normal.
4A- If you come with another entertainer, make sure you do not say you are with a friend who is auditioning as well. While you may pass all requirements, your friend may not and usually means both will be turned away. Simply say we met coming in the door.
5- Unless the club you choose is a House Fee mill, do not think to audition on Friday or Saturday and expect to work.
Decent clubs do not start girls on the weekend, in order to keep the peace with the Entertainers who are already on staff who have worked the slower parts of the week.
Mid tier and lower mixed and Urban clubs however are only in it for the fees and dont care about the drama they cause.
6- Check your Target Clubs official website and social media.
This will give you pictures if you havent visited the actual location, of what Dancers wear. Gowns, Clubwear, Lingerie with robes, Bikini sets etc.
7- Visit the actual location prior to calling about if they are hiring. The best information is gathered by eyes on viewing of which can tell you instantly the standards and parameters of the club.
Do they have Valet Parking, Is the outside of the club well lit and grounds taken care of, do they have a hostess, do they charge cover, do they allow unescorted ladies not in groups, Is the interior well kept, are the staff attentive to the guests?
All these questions can give you a perfect picture of the standards of the club and if they are worth auditioning for, and how much money potential exists. Affluent guests do not tend to go where they get poor service from the staff.
Unless lower mid tier clubs, the target market is not the 18-25 year old male, as they have no clue what service is beyond videos they have seen. So if you see this demographic, you are not in a Top Tier club.
8- Learn to walk in heels.
No not 2-4 inch that you wear to church or a restaurant for mothers day. 4-6 inch stilettos or heeled boots and break them in before you go for your audition.
There is nothing worse than a girl or group of girls who come to audition and they look like newborn deer on stilts. If you cannot walk a straight line while talking on your phone at the same time, practice doing so. Practice kneeling and crouching and crawling, then returning to your feet without falling over sideways. There are tricks to doing it and those tricks allow it to look sensual and sexy while doing so.
9- Have your hair and nails done and be presentable.
Even if just a basic brushed out style, and clear polish. Do not come in with glow in the dark wigs etc. Present yourself properly and it will help 1000% in any audition. Look like you just rolled out of bed or walking in from a windstorm, and those chances of a good first impression are gone.
10- Have a good attitude, be confident, and do not come with a predisposition of what you think may happen.
Body Language is important in this industry. Your first impression is very important for both your interview and if it leads to an audition. If you are desperate for money and need to have a job and this is your last resort, It shows. When you walk in, leave everything from the outside outside. You have one chance for a good interview and audition, and if you come with zero expectations and be calm, confident and sure of yourself, you will do just fine.
11- Put together your bag.
Now that you have gotten the facts, you need your bag. Two pairs of Heels, Two Breakaway thongs (non breakaway if topless only)Two outfits(gowns, dresses lingerie, etc that you found out from above), nail glue, band-aids, deodorant, perfume or body spray (NOT BODY OIL), makeup for touch-ups, are your basics and notice two of the important things because shit happens and things break or get snagged or tear, and you do not need more stress or anxiety.
This bag will grow once you are hired with makeup and outfits and heels and boots and other things for your locker. But that is then.
Come prepared, confident, and positive and the world is yours to take.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
This industry is hard, and it has gotten harder with the social media circus that exists today making it look so easy to walk in and take home thousands of dollars for shaking your ass. In certain clubs in certain cities sure you can get away with that, but they are the exception not the norm.
Follow these basics and you have a step up on the masses who want the exception. The Norm is dancers work hard for their money. They deal with assholes and arrogant SOB's who think they are gods gift.
They deal with Managers and Owners both good and bad, but have to work through the bad just like the good.
They deal with alcoholism, drugs, anxiety, depression, bad relationships, just like everyone else but, they have to shut that out and be the fantasy they have to be when they are at work, if its for 4 hours or 8.
Dancing is not easy, its far from the Im pretty and naked and can walk in a circle around this shiny pole and people cover me in cash hourly, that it was back in the 80s.
Nowadays dancers are still the escape from reality for men and women who just need to get away from the real world, and if you understand that, you have five steps up in the game.
Welcome to the Game, now its up to you how you play it!
