Sex Work Would Be Legal in New York Under New Bill Introduced Monday
Re: Sex Work Would Be Legal in New York Under New Bill Introduced Monday
Soon you will be able to do anything except own a firearm in New York.
Who will be the first to open a chain of McFuck parlors? Will the employees demand a $15 per hour minimum wage?

Funny. I wouldn't be surprised if the number of Asian massage parlors explodes. The city is already littered with them. But all the other girls working in the dark would be able to come out too. NY strip clubs could also stop living in fear of police raids because what would they be trying to catch? Just imagine NYC becoming a sex tourism destination, lol.
Right now nobody knows if this has a real chance of passing, so we'll see, but I hope it does. Too many lives have been ruined over ridiculous enforcement of consensual sex prohibitions. This bill even includes a provision the wipe the records clean of anyone who was previously convicted in NY of certain prostitution related crimes.

Hopefully it does pass. I imagine a lot of ladies will be relocating to or traveling there to work if it does.
Re: Sex Work Would Be Legal in New York Under New Bill Introduced Monday
In my local area, we just had 15 strippers and 11 escorts arrested in the last few weeks in stings and raids, all for no other reason than to catch prostitution. Imagine a major state here in the U.S. where that crap didn't happen.
Imagine a place where Vice cops were focusing their resources on catching drug syndicates and major human traffickers instead of focusing on defenseless girls just because they're easy targets. Where things like the ridiculous Robert Kraft saga doesn't happen because LE isn't pissing away massive resources chasing after people having consensual sex. Or where girls can work without fear that they are going to be in handcuffs just for trying to earn a living.

The comments - unreal:
"People who have sex for money are "prostitutes," not "sex workers." This is about legalizing "prostituiton" not legalizing the "sex-work industry." <-Fucker can't even spell prostitution but he thinks he is an expert on it
"God needs to send a few Asteroids to wipe out NY and the West Coast." <-asshole you obviously don't live or work in NYC why are you asking God to send an asteroid to kill millions of people?
I guess it is good to remind me people like this exist.

I also saw a lot of support in the comments too though. I suppose there will always be some people who will find excuses to try to impose their morality upon others.

Sex workers are easy to hate on. I can deal with haters. What I can’t and shouldn’t have to deal with is being denied another career or safe housing because of someone’s religious beliefs.

Low hanging fruit. It's an easy win for police because they can score points with politicians and voters while safely picking on defenseless women rather than violent felons.
But sadly the objections go far beyond the religious types. Many left wing women hate it too because they believe it's demeaning, degrading and objectifying to women. There are also people who don't like it purely for moral reasons that aren't really grounded in religious beliefs. In fact, these categories are the bigger stumbling block in places like NY, CA and MA than religious types are. Shoot, just 10 years ago Rhode Island, one of the most liberal states in the country, actually closed a loophole which had legalized prostitution and it was female Democrats leading the charge by introducing the bill and advocating for its passage.
It's going to be an uphill climb for sure, but I hope NY manages to do the right thing on this one.

I’m loving this thread and pray that this does become a reality! The amount of hard emotional, mental and physical labor that goes into sex work should never be invalidated or made to be illegal...sex workers deserve legal protection, rights, and safety just like any other occupation! I’m in NY, so this would be a huge victory for us!

Then you should call and/or write your state representatives and the governor. Also, ask your SC co-workers to do the same.

Agreed. IMHO the more voices that are heard, the greater the chance that politicians might show enough political courage to actually pass this.
