Yes! Adequate sleep, excellent nutrition. Working out.
AND just as important....learning mental coping skills to get through life without letting the hardships of life drive you to do bad things to cope (drug abuse, bad relationships, avoiding positive changes.)
I have heard of girls getting arthritis and back issues even in their 30s from doing this so any prolonging that advice is appreciated <3
Taking shoes off in private dances will save your back and knees, eating quality protein and complex carbs, avoiding stress!
Teeth are super important - sonic toothbrush twice a day and a waterpik really cleans well between the teeth better than floss = less / no dental bills :)
My answer isn't for everyone since I've had back injuries from a car accident when I was young, but - listen to your body, see medical professionals as much as possible, and stay fit. Fit muscles support your skeleton and make living with injuries do-able.
I'm not a huge pusher of chiropractic care b/c I think chiropractors manage your pain issues, not fix them. Unfortunately medical intervention can be unpleasant and risky (injections, nerve blocks) so many opt for chiropractic care.
Hot yoga to keep the body strong and muscles balanced, and restorative yoga to undo the effects of dancing.
Take it easy on stage! #1 thing all the 40+ y/o girls at my club complain about is their knees & it's mostly from hard ass stages.
If people aren't making it rain or something, don't bust out a bunch of pole tricks or do moves that are hard impacts. Come out of moves gracefully, don't slam straight down onto the ground, etc.
Not smoking or drinking alcohol is huge. I know drinking a lot is tempting at work but don't do it. Waste of $$ & makes your skin look like shit & if you overdo it you'll start to get a gut from the extra empty calories... there's more than you think, even in shots.
I try to stick to one drink, if any, and drink water after. Red Bull is ok IMO as long as you aren't struggling with your weight, there's tons of sugar in that stuff, but still... water!
Sun screen when you go outside during the day.
Weed and sex.
my dentist told me so many problems like diabetes are caused by lack of oral care!!
sounds like I need to get back to the mat! Also good for stress!
For sure! Finding a good studio that you vibe with is key. Some studios just irritate me. I love my current studio. Sometimes i spend the whole class just laying on my mat not doing anything... because i can! I have an unlimited pass for around $90/ month, which is a great deal for hot yoga. If i go even a week without yoga, i can really feel my body start to stiffen up.
Clubs with bare floor sucks. Carpet help prevent knee pain.
This is true. Also I learned the difference between cheap and expensive toothbrushes- I was using a dollar store toothbrush from a multipack and it wore out early...I finally got a better one and noticed an instant difference in the cleanliness of my teeth, and my mouth felt fresher (same toothpaste brand.)
On the same topic a lot of cities/areas have low cost dental services where they do limited oral care and referrals. It's way cheaper than just going to one dental office and you can have different opinions on dental issues.
I just had 2 teeth pulled last week..I take excellent care, I brush, floss after most everything I eat, & use 2 types of mouthwash.
In my case, acid reflux was the culprit, & also my shitty former dentist, who failed to tell me I had 2 cavaties under crowns, yet shamed me because I had temporary crowns for a while.
