Re: Makeovers at the Club
To be honest, I wouldn’t set my hopes too high for that. Not only are you unlicensed and inexperienced, but most girls do their own makeup and hair because we know exactly how we like it done. I can’t see too many girls wanting to fork out money when they have already been doing it themselves. Plus... getting ready is my favorite part! It’s almost therapeutic to have an hour to yourself listening to music and doing your makeup!
Have you also thought about how much it would cost you to buy a collection of makeup to use on clients? You’d have to have tons of foundation shades, lashes, and countless brushes to remain sanitary.
Have you tried for another club positions, like a waitress?
Re: Makeovers at the Club
If you’re already a house mom, I don’t see the harm in at least trying.
Re: Makeovers at the Club
I say try it because some girls make enough to spend it on having someone else fix their hair and makeup. Also if you shop around you can get your tools and supplies for cheap and store them at the club.
A lot of ex dancers end up working in cosmetology, it's a pretty common post- adult work career. Also a great skill to have.
Re: Makeovers at the Club
So yes, many of the clubs I have worked at have hair and makeup stylists on hand. Their services range from $25-40 full face with lashes. Same for hair (25-40) depending on style, if extensions are put in, etc. I'm pretty sure that everyone that worked at my clubs though was licensed though. Sure, try it out. The worst they can say is no or if they say yes, you might not make money for a bit but soon enough girls will come to know you and ask you to help them out because they feel lazy that day or want something new, etc. I would offer the owner 10% of your earnings. 20 is way too much. Good luck!
Re: Makeovers at the Club
I agree with IvoryDoll, have you thought about how much you'd have to lay out to purchase enough foundation shades, etc.?
FWIW, the only makeup artists I have seen make $$ is when the club literally forced the girls to use them. My current club had one but only 1 or 2 girls who were her friends would use her services, otherwise she stood around watching everyone do their own eye shadow... It's too easy nowadays to get on YouTube & learn how to do your hair/makeup.
Re: Makeovers at the Club
I mean U can try, but realistically speaking I don't foresee a it being all that worthwhile for U.
A suggestion, U could try working in a Dept. store, no license required, & I believe they pay commission.
Or Sephora? IDK how their requirements go..
Anyway, good luck!
Re: Makeovers at the Club
Alternatively, why don't you get a job at the club such as housemom, doorgirl, waitress, etc?
Re: Makeovers at the Club
I totally want tb a Door Girl!
Honestly, I wouldn't mind dancing, (if my feet could even handle it!) but I think I may be a little past the age:-\
PS sorry for thread jack
Re: Makeovers at the Club
I wouldn't pay to have my hair and makeup done even by a licensed professional because I have a certain way I like things and favorite products that I like to use, I like to get ready before I leave the house so im not hanging out in the dressing room forever, and it's just money wasted on something I can easily do myself. Normally I would say go for it anyways if theres nothing to lose but if you buy products and supplies for this you might realistically not even make back the money you spent so it could end up being a loss.
Re: Makeovers at the Club
I’ve worked in a lot of places that have a makeup artist, but—you are in a little town and the places that have makeup artists are big clubs in big cities where the money is flowing and the girls don’t mind dropping a little cash on makeup because they make a lot of money.
I am licensed in Cosmetology and some good news for you is that there is no license required to do makeup, any makeup person who says they are accredited would actually just be “certified,” meaning, they took a course in makeup that was either part of their cosmo or esthetician program, or a separate training that could have been even just one afternoon long. I am a certified makeup artist, it was part of my program, and what I learned was absolutely nothing. Edit: The one thing I did learn was sanitation, if you wanted to know about it message me and I’ll tell you what to buy to sanitize your products, it’s like, not real difficult or expensive lol.
Pros of your idea:
Really not much to lose to give it a shot
Cons:
Not sure if it’s worth it for the earning potential
Not likely you have enough of a kit to accommodate all faces/skin tones
Expensive to develop a kit, especially without knowing if you can make any money
Considerations:
You can get lashes on amazon for like $1, my favorite brand on there is Cherry
Think about doing a gimmick like, if you pay $75 you get 5 applications and we’ll
Keep track of it on a punch card. That way you get guaranteed continued clients
I think you should try to be a house mom too, that way you won’t have to pay the club to be there for doing makeup
Worth a shot!
Re: Makeovers at the Club
Oh also one other thing— many mainstream makeup brands offer a professionals discount if you can prove you are a professional. Diff brands require diff things to qualify but you can find out on their websites. Most are like 20%, so that would help a lot! :)
Re: Makeovers at the Club
The club's I worked at the house mom would offer these services. I would get my makeup done at 1 club that requires strong eye makeup. I would make her use my eyeshadow because she would use cheap stuff. The club's I worked in the house moms were licenced. May be worth getting your licence and be a house mom for now.
Re: Makeovers at the Club
I know my club requires a license. Liability and all.
