Touching on this, acupuncture encompasses diverse styles of treatment. Like different schools of martial arts, there are different schools of Chinese Medicine (Traditional Chinese Medicine, Classical Chinese Medicine, 5 Element style, Korean style, Japanese style, Master Tung points, etc)— it’s true that TCM is a modernized version of Classical texts, but your post seems to try and de-legitimize it because “my dragon style is better than your tiger style”. It’s unproductive to our field as a whole to argue whose approach is superior or limit ourselves to one school of thought. We should respect and appreciate the principles of each—every good acupuncturist has multiple tools in their toolbox.
Basically what I’m trying to say is that if you’re going to try acupuncture for the first time, it might take some trial and error because there are different styles out there (all equally able to achieve results) and depending on the severity of your condition it will take time and multiple treatments, try to stay open minded though and don’t be afraid to jump ship if your practitioner doesn’t make you feel comfortable or sure of themselves.
