I commute about 1 hour and 20 min 4/5 times a week so round trip it’s about 3 hours a night. I don’t stay in a hotel or Airbnb since I don’t make enough for the overhead (So Cal stripper life smh lol). I stay mostly sober at work so I can drive back after my shift each night. If I drink I’ll have one or two drinks and give it a couple of hours before I drive back. With your commute though I’d suggest getting a hotel or an extended stay place since they have kitchens/fridges, it’s what I do when I travel to Vegas to dance :)
I ride my bike to work. It's a 15-minute ride, and I can lock my bike right outside my Bourbon Street club without having to pay for parking.
I love this, Winged Dinghy. I'm curious. Do you ever fear for your safety?
My current club is about 45 minutes. I do it to stay away from more local people.
Yes and no. Yes, because New Orleans is a high-crime city and some criminals do target strippers and other service industry workers. I work days and am never out late, plus I stick to quieter residential roads, so that helps.
No, I don't feel less safe on my bike than I would driving a car or taking an Uber. Accidents can happen to anyone; predatory drivers can victimize you any time you hop in their car. Every time you travel you expose yourself to some kind of risk. Plus, I will never get a DUI on a bike, hahaha.
^ Do you do a hoodie ect. to cover hair / downplay gender and look ?
I ask because when I was walking in San Francisco to clubs to work I would leave in my disguise ( a gross hoodie and long pants ) and I barely looked female let alone robbing worthy.
I drive a big diesel pickup. They see that, they probably figure it’s just Cletus McNabb and the boys out for a night of cow tipping.
My drive takes between 30 and 40 minutes.
I'm assuming this is a pretty well known and lucrative if you're willing to drive 3+ hours for it. That's too far for me unless I did it maybe every weekend or every other weekend, and stayed in a hotel for the weekend. Leave Friday early afternoon, check into hotel, grab a bite, and go work. Work Fri Sat and Sun, and check out Monday (maybe even catch a Monday day shift before you leave to maximize earnings).
Again, I think it would be a good weekend thing, but you should focus on a weekday/home club that's closer to you. 3+ hours is a lot. The longest I've ever had to drive to a home club was like 45 mins. Right now, the club I work at is about a half hour away without traffic and that's fine for me. I think anything over an hour is a long commute.
My last shift I left in oversized jeans, a Navy peacoat and a knit cap. But in the summer it's way too hot for any of that. I don't consciously disguise myself. Foot traffic and regular car traffic is so heavy in the French Quarter that it would be hard for anyone to follow me unless they were also on a bike.
3 hours is my most common commute these days. I don't work in my city ( too many family / friends here ) .
This is really a commitment but can be done. It's all about being smooth with organizing and maximizing your time.
Pack Thursday for example and leave Friday morning to give yourself time to settle into your hotel , nap , and get ready without rushing. TRUST me to give yourself the time to pack your food ! It can make or break a trip . Then kill the day Sat. and do the club shift again . The thing with traveling this far is that even one just " meh " trip can be disheartening.
^ You asked about hotel v.s. AirBnB. I would only use AirBnB if it's a much better deal than a hotel . You want to " blend " seamlessly and it's hard with an AirBnB since so often the owner will see you leave ( such as renting a private room in a shared space ) . I would risk it but only if it was a much better deal. I stay in the Motel 6 or other pet friendly place always since my dog is a factor.
I am struggling lately because I live in the middle of nowhere and we have one club that is like a small town bar that just happens to have strippers. Lots of old redneck type guys with zero money. They act like it's a huge favor if they buy one dance. I used to drive up north but my club of 4 years won't work with my new schedule because I have a full time job now. Very sticky situation
I live pretty close to work - 15 mins most days. About 5 yrs ago used to drive .5 to 1hr to work depending on traffic. Difference for me is I now live in a city I didn't grow up in, and don't care about running into people I know from town or school...
I just drove 90 minutes to a new club. That drive was exhausting. My longest commute before this was an hour and 15 minutes. I did that for a few months. Then I switched to a club that was an hour away. I finally said eff it, and switched to my local club, which was 20 minutes away. Best. Commute. Ever! I freaking miss it.
Idk if I will be able to go back to this club. They close at 3am and with a 90 minute commute, I won't be getting home until 5am, since we can't leave until after the club has been cleared of customers. I'm also in a different mindset than I was 6 years ago. I get bored and restless easily. And I get tired earlier.
I like the club a lot, so I'm thinking of working 2 double shifts a month. I don't see that drive being worth it unless I can come home with some serious money at the end of the night.
Just wanted to chime in to say that in terms of lodging , a little cool tip I recently stumbled upon when driving across the states was that if you can check into a Motel 6 at 4 am you don't have to be checked out until 11 am the following day (meaning you get more like a whole 24 hrs in your room for $60) vs having to be out within 12 hrs. I did that when I worked in Vegas years ago & saved $$ on lodging costs.
Of course that means if you are commuting & driving into a city or town, work in the club first THEN check in after your shift at 4am, sleep in late ,then wake up work again , sleep. So it feels like you are getting 2 nights for one basically.
I know this sounds silly but I've tried it & I feel like I'm saving money.
^^^that's an awesome tip
I used to drive a little over 2 hours to the club I worked at...but I wasn’t doing good and I couldn’t afford to waste money and time like that anymore. So now I work locally about 10/15 minutes from where I live and I love it! It’s so convinient. And I’m making good money, woo hoo!
