Really dreading this😐 Has anyone worked as a Hostess?
Hi everyone, I really need some advice from those who have worked in restaurant as a Host or Hostess. I'm gonna be training for a nice restaurant that pays really well but I have zero experience in the restaurant business and while doing some research I've found some horror stories about how much abuse a Host takes from both customers and servers, could this be true?... I'm just trying to find a vanilla job I can stick to after dancing fo years and it's hard to find the right fit, please help, any imput is appreciated.

I would just try it ! Especially an upper end place would probably be fine ! It actually seems kind of similar to dancing ( they want a perfect look ect. ) !
I lived in a resort type of area and have seen hosts get BIG cash tips for " working in " reservations ect. so I would try it. Are you still planning to dance a night here and there ? It's so hard to fully leave.

Do it, hostessing is a lot of fun. Believe it or waitressing or bartending at a lot of places is the same kind of money as stripping.

^ You're right it has been hard transioning, and it's been almost a year since I quit cold turkey, it's hard in a subconscious way for me, I still dream about the club and more importantly is affected my ability to stick to a job, because it's seems there's so much crap to put up with just to keep your clothes on right? You would think it's the opposite that dancers are being disrespected on a daily basis but actually no... In seven years I never took crap from anybody, not from custys, not from staff or coworkers. So it's hard to change that mentality with a regular job it's like a rewiring of the brain.
That's why I'm nervous about working at a restaurant, the fact that you can't walk away when someone is being rude that's a complete unknown territory

My son was a host at an upscale hotspot while waiting for his 'big boy job' to happen, he loved it, had perks for half priced food while in training... I say go for it, consider it a way to network, never know who you'll meet!

You'll be fine. Make friends with managers and be sure not to let anyone know that you were a dancer. Hostesses tend to get hit on quite frequently even without that kinda background. That's the nature of restaurants. Because you've worked in a club none of this will be a shock to you. Just be assertive and keep smiling. Once the servers realize you aren't a pushover they'll back off... especially if the managers like you.
Things to watch out for will be servers trying to sweet talk and bribe you into giving them the best tables. If that doesn't work some will try to bully you. It does happen even in fine dining. Also servers will try to avoid being sat towards the end of the night so they can leave early. Ignore them and communicate with the managers.
Servers can be worse than customers at times. But again you've worked in a club for several years. You'll be able to spot the messy ones right away.
