I think maybe someone was trying to abduct me after work tonight...but I can't figure
I was and remain puzzled by this. I don't understand
how the driver thought I would get into the car with him.
The club closed and security cleared the parking lot.
A car pulled up with a man that the security guard
did not reconize as a customer (was kind of a slow
night but maybe the security guy is bad with faces.)
Thhe driver said he was "(My dancer name)'s driver."
and for some reason, supposedly showed a picture
of me with the guy. according to the security guard it
looked like this guy and I were not in the club,
like at home or something.
Thing is: I'm in a city where I don't know anyone
but my best friend. I haven't been here in many years,
and I don't take pictures with anyone. My dancer
name is only a couple months old. I'm kind of leaning
towards the security guard not getting a good look
and just seeing some girl with my hair color in the picture.
but I can't figure this out:
if the driver had said I'm here for such-and-so and I'm her Lyft/uber
driver, I could see that working in the hopes that I ordered
a lyft and was dumb or drunk enough not to check the car info
in the app against the real life car. that would be a gamble but
I can see the con.
but I don't get showing the security a picture. I knew my ride
was not there when security said it was (as I was texting my ride)
so I stayed inside. Ten minutes later, car was not there.
so either:
another security guard walked a girl with the same/similar name to
my dance name out and the first security guard did not see it.
(there was one girl tonight with kind of similar haircolor...maybe)
or....the driver waited and could tell I wasn't falling for it and
split.
I just can't figure out how he thought I was going to get in his car?!??
if someone reads this and understands wtf I am missing, I appreciate it.
I'm wondering if a spotter came into the club, looked at who was working,
maybe chose me as an out-of-towner (I moved here but am telling locals
I am travelling through because I do travel a lot), and then texted info
to a second guy who would pretend to be my driver.
I plan on talking to the manager tomorrow and asking the second security
guy if he walked anyone to that specific car.
even though I don't see how I would have fallen for it it is
weird and unsettling and it bothers me.
I suppose, at the end of all of this, just be aware of lyft/uber ride scams
after work....since I can't see otherwise how this would have worked.
Re: I think maybe someone was trying to abduct me after work tonight...but I can't fi
Definitely ask about it. Glad you are ok.
Re: I think maybe someone was trying to abduct me after work tonight...but I can't fi
Even if they were a a Lyft or Uber driver, it would be incredibly unsettling, if they were to show a photo of a girl at the club. That either means he cropped their photo, is trying to exploit someone's trust or they are possibly buddies outside of work. Either way, not a good combination.
Re: I think maybe someone was trying to abduct me after work tonight...but I can't fi
Given what I know from years of experience, I think this guy saw you in the club, got infatuated and thought up this scheme to get you alone. I am so grateful it didn't work. (I've also seen customers try to get visibly drunk dancers to leave with them, they're really loud about it too.)
There is the possibility of a mix up but if there's only one other girl it could have been, how likely is that?
Be safe ladies.
Re: I think maybe someone was trying to abduct me after work tonight...but I can't fi
That is so scary! Always always trust your gut, it will never let you down. You had a bad/weird feeling and decided to wait inside, and now you are safe! Definitely look into this, idk how you will do it but keep your guard up and on the lookout! Sounds like a potential stalker! Sorry this is happening to you
Re: I think maybe someone was trying to abduct me after work tonight...but I can't fi
update:
good news!
talked to the manager last night and while he wasn't completely dismissive, it didn't sound like I was stating the important parts. he kept getting hung up on the picture or other stuff.
but that is a moot point, ran into the security guard today and he apologized to me.
he had seen the driver and one of the dancers later together and realized his mistake.
I guess he is really bad with faces. the other girl who it *might* have been was the one.
different hair color but I figured she was close enough that maybe in photos that weren't very clear, the security guard might have quickly scanned and then made the wrong conclusion on who it was.
he doesn't remember what her name is so I can't tell how close her name is to mine.
and he and I have hardly worked together.
he did apologize for scaring me.
so on the one hand I'm like, c'mon-- you messed up on a name and a photo, how much attention were you actually paying
but on the other hand, I'm really glad it turned out this way than the weirdness from when it happened.

Im glad it turned out ok. This is why I don't understand girls advertising on Instagram guys will get obessed and stalk you not safe at all.
