In Canada, I am aware from friends who are still working in the industry that they are eligible!

That said, that does NOT make this not fucked up. It's still discriminatory and archaic against sex work.

If anyone is trying to get through online, download/use Internet Explorer. The other browsers don't work.

Re: Is anyone applying for unemployment due to covid-19? Apparently we can....
After I filed I saw a page on the states website that said it’s not set up for ic or self employees yet. Like come on we’ve already been out of work for 3 weeks let’s get your shit together! I’m assuming I’ll be denied and then have to file again with the new set up and wait another two fucking weeks to get my money. At least we will get retroactive pay.
Does anyone know if all that backpay will be deposited with our first payment??

I hope so. My state is lagging too.

lots of confusing info out there. I’m reading that you should file right away even if the software isn’t setup for us yet but some of the pages say to wait. I did read that the retroactive pay should be in our first paycheck but it may take a couple more weeks.

I called wv today and they answered right away. She told me they are still working on getting it formatted but said my claim may go through since I just filed. I think it’s more just waiting for the funding. She said if not, to re file my claim if it’s denied. Mid April was what she told me in terms of time line.

Self employed? You can get unemployment benefits amid COVID-19, but it won't be right away
ktva.com/story/41968613/self-employed-you-can-get-unemployment-benefits-amid-covid19-but-it-wont-be-right-away
"Our understanding is that through this new program the self employed will be eligible for up to $600 per week for a period of up to 39 weeks," Deputy Commissioner Munoz said.
She said that money won't go out immediately. It will take about a month for the program to be up and running, then another seven to 10 days for payments to be issued.
The department advised self-employed workers and independent contractors to apply for benefits in approximately four weeks, but said they will notify the public if the system is ready before then.
People who are out of work and are currently covered by unemployment insurance benefits should file for them right now.
Information about how to apply for benefits, links to online unemployment applications and a list of frequently asked questions is available on the Department of Labor and Workforce Development's website."

Same. Website just has a message that we'll get instructions in "the coming days" like...how long is that? A week? 2 weeks? A month? :<

You as an individual can file for the $600/week unemployment. Your business, if it's sex related itself, cannot. If it's just straight up clothes, that should qualify I would think.
I wonder how they are treating lingerie shops & such with that 'prurience' clause? They're a grey area...

But the line is busy all day even at 8am.

Re: Is anyone applying for unemployment due to covid-19? Apparently we can....
I got to the end of the process online.
I'm self employed ( for day job ) and it didn't ask for my taxes to be uploaded . That seems weird .
At least it is further than giving up half way through like I did a few days ago.
I feel pessimistic honestly due to not really feeling confident I'll get any $ in hand for two or more weeks. There was not anything really at the end saying anything about a time line.

My state NV tweeted to not file 1099 / self employed yet, wait until the PUA (pandemic unemployment assistance) program is ready.

this is how the state I work in kinda went. Did not ask for taxes and there were questions about the covid19 although they are still saying mid April for the self employed/independent contractors. I called and the woman told me that it may get processed since I filed already and if it’s denied just to file again when the system is ready. I’m not filing with any kind of employment record (no taxes for the pay 2 years only filed 2018 for stimulus) so I’ll be one of the ones “without sufficient work history.” Im just anxious for one of us to get approved here.

But the line is busy all day even at 8am.
I started calling at 8 AM & got through after 260 times. Then I stayed on hold for about 45 minutes before speaking to someone.

Re: Is anyone applying for unemployment due to covid-19? Apparently we can....
Another couple days and my state's website still says the same shit and that we'll get information in the coming days. I have a sneaking suspicion "coming days" means "when we remember"

Re: Is anyone applying for unemployment due to covid-19? Apparently we can....
Now mine is saying something about filing a claim ?
I thought that was what getting to the end of the line ( finally ) on the website was.
This is a long and clunky process ( at least in my state ) so others filing should be warned to sit down and give this full focus ( dedicate at least a 60-80 minute window to the project ).

Yes I completed my application over the phone, and then claimed my benefits. However, it still says my claim is in Pending status on the website (see picture). I heard there is a waiting period to receive the first payment after you claim your benefits, but I don't know when I will be receiving anything. I'm getting scared because I only have enough money to last me till the end of the month. I tried calling the Claims Center again today to ask about it, but after 117 times that I called and got immediately disconnected or a busy signal, my will gave out. XDAttachment 53034

Re: Is anyone applying for unemployment due to covid-19? Apparently we can....
^ Mine looks very similar.
I tried to file a weekly claim as instructed by the site and it just said something like " Care Act is here but we are waiting on guidelines how to implement it ".

Ugh, I will try again tomorrow. You are only the third person I know who has gotten through.
In other news, we can try to file for SNAP, Cash assistance, and medicaid now.

actually it might be in your best interest to apply for snap and Medicaid first. If you’re approved for that and then get unemployment they will not stop your food stamps for Medicaid even if you are over the limit with unemployment benefits until the state of emergency in your state has been lifted.
