Lingerie club vs. gown club
I’ve only worked at clubs in Ohio and they’ve all been lingerie clubs. I’m moving to NYC soon and I know that some clubs I would want to try out are considered gown clubs. What are some differences ? When does the gown come off? What kinds of shoes do you wear with the gowns? Do most clubs have lingerie nights and short dress nights? I’m just trying to get a better idea of what to expect and what I need to buy beforehand
Re: Lingerie club vs. gown club
Gown clubs tend to be geared towards selling VIPs to customers.
Non-gown clubs give a bit more leeway as to how the dancer wants to sell dances and where.
Gown clubs often have regulations about the style and length of gown. The house mom or manager will go over that with you.
Check with the manager on duty to see what you might want to buy beforehand, as it would suck to go buy items that aren't really allowed as clubwear for work.

Most NYC clubs are cocktail style dresses. Only a couple (penthouse & scores i think) still require gowns and they are very specific about what they allow, so I would suggest you don't buy anything until you get hired and the housemom tells you what's allowed. A lot of clubs will have a lingerie night, or special events that require lingerie or bikinis.

Gown clubs - Penthouse, scores, ricks.
Short dress- Sapphire 60
Lingerie or Cocktail dress (to the knee)- Sapphire 39th.
Cocktail dress- Sapphire TS
Anything- Vivid, Hoops.
Ricks's is lingerie on Tuesdays.
You will need to call the club(s) you are thinking of auditioning at and ask them when their auditions are and what is required. Most gown clubs do not want anything see through, same with short dresses. Even on lingerie nights, they want your butt covered. There's a place across from Ricks' called Empire Exotica that you can buy gowns or short dresses at or you can go to the kamalacollection.com or go to their warehouse in LIC (call ahead). There you can try everything on.
You will want to get some pleasers to wear. Most of these clubs do not allow boots. You take the dress off either on the second song onstage or when you begin a dance. If it's a 3 song set, you take the top portion of the dress off on the second song and take it off fully on the 3rd song. I would suggest getting a gown, a club dress (one short/one cocktail length) that you may already own (who doesn't have a black mini?), and a lingerie set that you already own. Don't spend too much until you figure out if they will even take you! How long have you been dancing? Make sure your nails, toes, hair, and makeup are done WITH lashes!

Thank you! That answered pretty much everything I needed to know. I have been dancing for almost a year now, by the time I move out there it will be over a year. After doing a lot of research Im pretty sure I have "the look" most clubs will hire. I like to just be as well prepared as possible when diving into new territory.
