Tear gas is a nerve agent, and in Basic Training, we were exposed to it so we could see firsthand the signs of exposure to nerve agents. The military has now been rethinking that practice.
A lot of departments have been going to OC dispersal systems in lieu of CS tear gas now, just as they’ve done with mace. That’s what I was sprayed with. From what ‘S’ told me, someone behind me flipped off the cops, and their response was to hose us with OC and then bull rush us. OC is proper spray - but theirs is a much higher concentration than what we can buy. Certainly not harmless… I could still feel the effects of it for a good while after it was supposedly neutralized. They have a device similar to a tear gas grenade and the pepperball guns, which are hopped up paintball guns, as well as spray canisters.
