relying on people to be honest when required to self-report their Covid exposure or symptoms is not wise or stringent enough to prevent illness from spreading

Flying was fast on its way to becoming a joyless nightmare already. Now? It's the primary path for spreading international contagions. I predict it will get worse until we can rapid sequence and cure viruses.
I'm not a virologist but generally rapid sequencing is doable these days.
I agree.
My first time traveling by train was much more enjoyable than being subjected to TSA shenanigans n long lines at checkpoints. It’s like they’re so strict when it comes to drugs n explosives but highly contagious potentially deadly viruses......”eh just self report”
At this point if I HAD to travel I’d take a train with a private room. Or money permitting, I’d fly private.
Pretty much anything where i wouldn’t have to be around hundreds of potentially sick people.
I like Trains. They have Bars on them. I hate flying, though I have to do it a lot. My Publisher is in New York. I put my FOOT down the last year, I'm not flying no matter how much they beg. They can ZOOM me.
Hopefully the new Administration will spend more on rail, especially since Biden used to commute to work on Amtrak.
Yeah, when I ride a train I always wind up totally hammered. Just as drunk as a man can be.
It is what it is.
We need high speed rail! We are behind on the times. Living where I live it’s unlikely to be here, but definitely in bigger cities. How cool would that be?
The DILF I have a crush on told me that he was traveling and I was like, “Are you serious?” He’s a doctor too, but you hear a lie loud enough and long enough you start to believe it. My aunts a doctor and she doesn’t take the virus seriously either. I hate being sick with just the flu. Let alone sick with a novel virus. Even if it’s not deadly to most people. I don’t want to get sick!
My friend is unable to work because of long haulers. She has friends that got the virus and had no symptoms and have long haulers! This virus isn’t a joke. People don’t think it’s a big deal. We don’t even know the long term effects. I watched a legit medical lecture and the doctor said this is a neurological disease! We just don’t F’ing know enough about this virus to be so laissez fairz about getting sick.
I understand everyone has their reasons, but damn it’s not worth the risk. Why not wait for the vaccine?
I mean if everyone has to test prior to boarding, i consider it pretty safe.
The rapid tests come back in an hour or less
Sadly the rapid tests aren’t as easily accessible
And how accurate do you think they are? And how readily available are they at the airport? I'll stay here, frankly.
They are supposed to be as accurate as the standard tests. From my understanding the only difference is the swab is analyzed off-site vs. on-site
I guess when Trump said “slow down the testing” mfs took that literally and now those rapid testing sites are hard to find n have long waits to get seen
I take the test and then fly the very next day. My results came back in 4 hours. As long as they country you’re going to requires a test, you’re good.
I have friends in Mexico and Hawaii right now with no issues ( they tested about 24 hours prior , were negative and didn't get sick ). Just ones persons experience watching their friends before trying myself haha !
Hawaii has some complexities ( the main thing is that people are not reading fine print .... IF you have a layover .... you test in THAT city ).
possibly if you don’t mind commuting the the only rapid test location site in the city.
from my research we only now have ONE rapid test location here. Probably has to be booked a week in advance.
whereas before I could drive 10min down the street book 48-24hr in advance and get a test back in less than an hour. Since they cut down on the number of rapid test locations I’ve been relegated to going to the nearest site that gives 3-5 day results booked 48hrs in advance. So I’d have to plan travel at least a week in advance to ensure tests results back on time.
I’m sure some if you don’t mind paying for a rapid test you can get it with ease. Especially if you need it for travel.
I just prefer to get free COVID tests
Yeah, I'll stay put. My publisher can just give me a phone call until this shit is over.
I think the rapid tests are not a good idea. Just doesn't seem as accurate. One youtuber did one and got 2 positive back to back covid tests in order to do a collab video and was shocked because he doesn't see anyone. Then he drove to get the longer result one and it was negative.
