That's all well and good EXCEPT what were those families doing BEFORE the pandemic ? Who are Roof's dependents ? There aren't any. Nor for the Boston bomber. This is a crock.

Probably so they can keep their for-profit prisons running. Another way to keep that money rolling into the prisons.
People who got caught up and trying to turn their life around then yes they should get a stimulus check especially if they have kids/spouse.
People who are sociopaths, rapists, murderers, armed robbers shouldn’t get one n if they do a stimulus check they should be used to pay restitution to their victims and/or prison commissary.
Nowadays prisoners have rights n shit.
It’s because means testing will just delay getting the money to those deemed appropriate. There is no nominal savings by going through every persons situation. The overhead costs will be more then just giving them the money. Dylan Roof may not have dependents but many in prison do.
I mean Democrats do this too, there was no savings by making the standard 75k versus 80k, they have no idea what people’s incomes are like because many have not submitted their 2020 taxes. A lot of accountants have suggested not filing until the stimulus comes out. It may be better or worse for those millions of people in that income bracket. They wasted more of our money working on that aspect of the stimulus bill (the wages if it was done by hour for politicians and staff) the major goal should have been getting the money out, could have instituted tax burdens in 2021 if someone got too much money. The stimulus is an immediate tax break for everyday people.
Basically the money going to citizens is the smallest “cost” especially in comparison to the “small” business abusing the PPP. Study after study show that direct cash payments help the most.
The Biden Bucks have landed!

No that is what you believe, there are some studies that support that behavior for the wealthy, but not those who need money. They spend the money and it is the best way to help them and the economy. Where I live 75k isn’t even middle class.
And I’m guessing you didn’t see the “” around small?

Not for people who are behind on their rent and who don't have enough to buy all of the groceries they need. There are people waiting in lines for close to 12 hours at foodbanks, just so they have food to eat.

These people will most likely start spending the money right away.
Tax cuts will do nothing for the approximately 47% of Americans who don't pay federal income tax, and these are the people who need help the most.
Infrastructure investment will help the economy over the long term, but not right away. It could take months before infrastructure projects are ready to bring in workers, from the time funds are allocated to them. There are many people who need help now. Direct deposit is the fastest way to get money to these people. Hopefully Congress will eventually pass an infrastructure bill too, but there are many people who need help right away.
No that is what has been proven. Over and over again. If we want economic growth ; if we want a sped up recovery ; tax cuts are the way to go. They result in more income ; more investment and more HIRING.
Even if they are spent instead of saved , one time payments do little to stimulate the economy. If we want to help people to survive ( AND WE OUGHT TO ) extended unemployment benefits are probably a better way to go.
Infrastructure investment results in hiring and purchasing of materials and supplies.
How many times have I posted that the best way to help poor people is to give them money ? What I don't want to see is paying able people money NOT to work.
Let us not confuse two things : Relief and stimulus. I am all in favor of relief to those that NEED it. The Dem's stimulus bill is a Liberal Wish List - paying teachers not to teach ; paying states and cities not to get their fiscal houses in order; paying prisoners with NO dependents and a dozen other ridiculous examples.
Are you saying that receiving a couple grand over the course of a year is going to keep people who could be earning tens of thousands of dollars a year from working?
Again like Kamiliam pointed out, what is the quick and efficient vetting process for the over 300,000,000 Americans going to look like?
Like what? Paying prisoners with no dependents was done twice by the Republicans, so I'm curious what the other examples are.
Three-quarters of all voters, including 60% of Republicans, support Biden's $1.9 trillion stimulus plan, so it's not just a "liberal wish list."

I'm in Maryland, and I got the Maryland relief check sometime around February 19/20. I thought I'd be getting that via direct deposit (like I did with my stimulus last year in April), but this time it was a $500 paper check. I saw a Facebook post that someone around here got someone else's relief check in their mailbox by mistake. Yikes!
Yeah, I'm not gonna get one. Not that I really care. 1400$ isn't a lot to me. Give it to someone that needs it. I'm not sure why I got the 600$ from Trump's administration. That mystified me.
Seems we should be getting the 3rd one soon. I'm enjoying these stimulus payments. It reminds me of forking out all this money in taxes for other people in the past to have health insurance when I had 0 health care coverage or hoping my health issues went away due to price costs. I'd be showing up and declining most services because it was so expensive since I was paying cash. Feels like I'm getting paid back haha.
Wasn't there a mention of a few more stimulus payments coming?
The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development estimates that the US economy will recover twice as quickly, thanks to the stimulus.

Nooo, I went with crab legs and oysters this time. Next we need to take all of our reptillians to the vet. If there's anything left over I may put a down payment on a tiger.

I’m kidding. I definitely plan to invest some of it.
Whut, you guys get money? :O Im jealous....
Everybody LOVES "free" money. Wait until the bill is presented. When inflation eats away at savings. When taxes go up to put a dent in the deficits.
It's going to get worse if Biden puts together an Infrastructure Bill. Historically such bills rack up massive debt and do not deliver the infrastructure improvements that they were supposed to. Bureaucrats make lousy project managers. Especially in the Northeast and Midwest. One reason taxes are so high in N.Y. , N.J. , Illinois and Caliphonia is to pay for all the bonds that were issued to fix our "crumbling infrastructure " over the past 20 years. Btw, there is a proposal to raise N.Y.'s Income Tax to a combined 15.5% for both State and City taxes. ( They must be trying to expedite the exodus of the super-rich who pay most of the income taxes in the first place. )Then we've had things like Solyndra ; "tunnels to nowhere " and try to recall how many "shovel ready" jobs were created back in 2009 by Biden , Pelosi , Obama et. all in response to the Financial Crisis. Obama's $800 billion "Recovery and Reinvestment Act " did nothing to stimulate the economy and instead encouraged reckless state and local government spending. Who really benefitted were big banks and private equity forms who underwrote and sold all the bonds that were written. If infrastructure bills were so successful then why is our infrastructure falling apart after so much spending ? Why is California's high speed rail limited to a stretch between Merced and Bakersfield ?
