At 45,000 years old it may not even have been a modern homo sapien who painted this. Either way I live for this stuff, evolution is pretty amazing!

Magura Cave, Bulgaria, interior, sanctuary hall: rock painting made of bat guano droppings showing penis dancers (detail above hunters with bow and arrow hunting animals); background: Magura Cave, also called Rabisha Cave is located in northeastern Bulgaria, 17 km from Belogradchik, in the limestone Rabisha burial mound (altitude: 461 m). It consists of main gallery and three side branches. The overall length of the cave is app. 2500 m. The temperature in the cave is a constant 12° C. Magura Cave started to shape 15 million years ago. In one of the caverns prehistoric paintings have been discovered, carved into the walls and decorated with bat guano (droppings). The paintings depict silhouettes of women, men dancing and hunting, people wearing masks, animals, stars, tools, and plants. The paintings date from different eras – the early Paleolithic, the Neolithic, the later Neolithic, and beginning of the Bronze Age. Youngest paitnings are from 1200 BC. A solar calendar from the late Neolithic found there is the earliest solar calendar discovered in Europe. It is painted on the walls of the sanctuary hall and depicts 5 festival events or season and 366 days. Magura Cave is candidate as UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visit also Magura Winery & Cave! Situated next to village and lake of Rabisha (the biggest Bulgarian sweet water reservoir and a nature beauty), 15 million years old Magura Cave is the largest of its kind in the country and houses outstanding, 2007 – 2011 restored, Neolithic and early Bronze age rock paintings, made of bat guano and realized until 1200 BC. One part, the Magura Bat Gallery, is the place for ageing of selected wines at a constant temperature of 12°? and appropriate humidity. Test famous dry and best Bulgarian sparkling wine “Magura”, a 2006 “Cuvée du Nord” from the Rendezvous series, whose selection 2003 became first Bulgarian wine honored with the prestigious Silver Medal of Decanter World Wine Awards. And do not forget to ask for the grape
