Damn!
That's a LOT!
Only 28 yrs old, but eating disorder, addiction.
She'll have to really be careful, monitor her health well.

I hope she manages her assets n money well. Because this may shorten her life expectancy
Good thing she’s okay most people who have strokes esp more than one don’t make it out the same, end up disabled or worse.

She also has bipolar disorder, like I do, which is more than enough to bear on its own.

And drug addiction on top of that. I'm glad she didn't die.

Re: Demi Lovato revealed she had three strokes and a heart attack
Was heroin so most don’t know what they’re getting.
One girl I knew made over 750,000 stealing for her heroin/fentanyl habit. Forgot how many OD’s she had but watched 17-18 of her friends die. One turned gray and died in the car right next to her.
Nasty drug. Always seems laced nowadays. Convenient how no drugs were found on the property. I have a lot to say lol. The girl I knew wound up in rehab at 80ish pounds? Sad what this crap can do.
Hopefully Demi cut those friends out of her life

Re: Demi Lovato revealed she had three strokes and a heart attack
^thats unfortunate it’s such a powerful yet dangerous drug
That’s why I never dabbled with that. When accidental overdoses happen or even just typical usage of If then people know all your business then judging n discriminating.
I just discreetly stick to my basics without fear of overdose or people knowing all my cotdamn business

Re: Demi Lovato revealed she had three strokes and a heart attack
It’s hard, so many people get prescribed pain meds and it escalates from there.

Re: Demi Lovato revealed she had three strokes and a heart attack
True. I saw some documentary about OxyContin how when it first came out it was like a blessing to these people who used it for legit purpose but then a handful of the people in the documentary got addicted n started abusing the drugs. A couple of them died.
Most doctors nowadays are reluctant to prescribe heavy narcotics
The dangers of being a celebrity is that you can get hard drugs really easily cause shady doctors n drug dealers looking For a come up will have no problem turning into behind the scenes YES men to be on payroll.

reminds me of Maia Campbell
really beautiful and (at that time) successful actress who was a costar with LL Cool J on a popular sitcom
well after the show ended she didn’t do so well. She was discovered in the streets most likely prostituting herself for crack. Turned out she had bipolar, refused to take proper medication, and used hard core drugs (crack) to self medicate- which of course made things way worse.
And another similar story of Delonte West
Former NBA player who, after his sports career ended, was discovered homeless in the streets. Turns out he was battling bipolar and substance abuse.
Bipolar (or any mental illness) + drugs ...... is no joke and can destroy lives
it sounds like Demi has people surrounding her that are trying to help her stay on the right path

My cousin had a prescription pill addiction, he had a bad back, he passed away some time ago.
Really good guy, he had a couple businesses at one point

Re: Demi Lovato revealed she had three strokes and a heart attack
I take benzodiazepines as part of my treatment. People think that because Xanax is a household name, it must be safe. But it can be incredibly addicting. I'm in a lot of physical pain right now, and it's the only thing that's helped even a little. So I'm tempted to just have an extra one or two. There was a CNN special on benzo addiction that I couldn't watch.
I asked my doctor to take me off klonopin, and did a very slow taper. The withdrawals still hit pretty hard. I can't imagine someone going cold turkey.

Re: Demi Lovato revealed she had three strokes and a heart attack
Why did you want to go off Klonopin? The side effects, to prevent addiction, etc? You don’t have to answer if you don’t want I’m just curious.
That’s pretty good you were able to taper it down

I'm on Xanax too and didn't feel comfortable being on both long term. I just hope I picked the right one!

Well, I used it to get off a years-long drinking binge recently. Far easier to walk away from a drug you're not taking to get high, but instead to move forward in life. I wish all drugs were as easy to quit as blow! ;)

Re: Demi Lovato revealed she had three strokes and a heart attack
I watched her documentary and shut it off when she said she's "California Sober"....every addict thinks they can control their use at one point until they have a bad day and they're back in rehab wondering what happened. Like girl....you are considered legally blind and almost died. Probably not the best choice.

Agreed. Bipolar comes with a very unique set of challenges.
I think a lot of non-addicts think about addicts and addiction from a place of logic, which is definitely how i used to think about the whole thing. Addiction is not logical. When addicts are in the throes of a binge, they are not thinking about their future, or how their health and finances will be affected, or whether their needle is clean, or whether they're using contaminated drugs, etc. They're not thinking. I think that's one of the most relieving parts about using, for many addicts - that after all of the thinking, self-shaming, and exertion of control, using is such a simple series of actions ("process addiction"), plus the neurochemical addiction to the substance itself. It's like sky diving - all they have to do is let go. I have a lot of empathy for their struggle. Highly recommend the book In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts for anyone who finds the topic intellectually interesting.
And as they say, addicts are always moving towards either recovery or relapse. I have to agree that semi-sober living seems to be moving towards relapse. I truly wish her the best. I can't imagine contending with bipolar and addiction as a celebrity. Seems like all odds are stacked against her, and so much public scrutiny + judgment...

I think it’s real likely she is setting herself up for another relapse and her bipolar makes everything less stable. But I do think weed is demonized in a way that may hurt some people’s chance at sobriety. It obviously can lead to detrimental choices but enough research has been done that in and of itself it isn’t anymore addictive then caffeine. Caffeine along with nicotine are still allowed to be used and not effect ones sobriety. Like I don’t think she would have been hanging out with those leaches like she was when she OD’d if she was just smoking a little pot. The little bit of drinking is probably ridiculous for someone with her history to consider.
There are addiction medicine specialists who do promote a different way of dealing with addiction, allowing perhaps casual use back into their lives. AA/12 steps was created and designed for Christian white men with no professional experience treating addiction. Despite all the people it has helped it makes sense that as we know more about people’s differences and addiction itself we would need to try new things. No doubt Demi is seeing professionals in this group if she is being open about dabbling. However just to my eye, it is playing with danger to already be using one of her problematic substances so quickly. I hope she is really doing the work on herself.

Who is Demi Lovato? LOL. I don't even know!

Re: Demi Lovato revealed she had three strokes and a heart attack
It's such a complicated topic, and there is no one-size-fits-all solution. Everyone is so different.
Raziel, being unaware of celebrity culture doesn't make someone cooler than those who can recognize the names of popular artists. I suggest Google if you have any questions and would like to contribute your thoughts.

Re: Demi Lovato revealed she had three strokes and a heart attack
How do I google someone I've never heard of (That i know of).
ETA: honestly, I didn't know who Eminem was for years. Nothing personal, not trying to seem cool, just asking a question. I listen to mainly 60's, 70's and some 80's rock (and a little 90's), but as it stands I'm not exactly up on the latest. I know whom she is now, but i'd never heard of her before this thread. I just wanted to know who she was, and you would be the right people to tell me, not Google.

I'm glad I got off the oxycodone two years before it became unfashionable for docs to prescribe it, not happy that I can't get back on them -- I've broken my back more than once. But even my combat-vet roommate can't get decent pills from the VA anymore. Now they only prescribe Gabapentin, which will help you sleep but cuts your IQ in half if you take that much of it. Tried it, don't like it, I get my gf her own room when we meet up because my screaming in pain in my sleep wakes her up. Even if I still *could* score oxy on the street I wouldn't, too much of it's fake designer drugs from China laced with Fentanyl. No easy answers. Gabapentin isn't an answer at all. Neither are benzos but sometimes a shot and a Klonopin works for sleep, but at 52 I know better. Which doesn't count for sh**.
