Tips on choosing a good stage name
Hi everyone, I'm from Vancouver, and I've been doing other forms of sex work for a year and a half. I want to switch things up for various personal reasons, and stripping has been something that I've been wanting to do for a while. When strip clubs in Vancouver are able to open again, I'll start doing auditions and probably send in an application to stripperweb entertainment.
I know that I'll need a stage name, and I honestly need some advice on how to choose a good name. I definitely look more conventional than alternative, with only a few small tattoos and no very obvious piercings, so I assume that I would be better off choosing a stage name that sounds like it could be a real name. Although a fun or edgy sounding name can be really cool, I just don't think it would fit my look very well. Am I right in assuming that?
I'm Chinese, and I don't know whether it would be better to choose an Asian name or a "white" sounding name, especially since I was born and raised in Canada. Also, is it true that I should choose a name that's relatively simple and easy to spell/pronounce?
Sorry if my questions are silly, but I've been thinking long and hard about potential stage names for a while, and I'm kind of stuck :spin:
Re: Tips on choosing a good stage name
Pick something more realistic sounding (or could be a nickname for a real name). Trust me it makes things so much easier. For example my stage name is Faye which isn't very realistic, but when customers ask my real name I just say Faith.
You want something that sounds sexy and just a touch exotic but could still pass for a real name. (Of course a lot of strippers do well with the fun/novelty names, but ime having a realistic name makes things wayyy easier)
But whatever name you pick, you want it to be easy to say in a loud nightclub setting to drunk people. That's why I try to stick with 3 or less syllables and easy to say over loud music. Otherwise it just gets old fast. Hahah
These same rules should apply whether you pick an Asian or English sounding name. Hope this helps!
Re: Tips on choosing a good stage name
A realistic "generationally appropriate" name with "cute nickname" potential. If you're paranoid about your personal privacy, make strip club employees call you by your stage name there.
EX: Elizabeth ("My friends call me Liz")
For Asian dancers there's nothing wrong with using a cute short nickname & just explaining it a little bit. Many cultures allow for cute nicknames in English, Spanish or French....just go with something phonetically pleasing in the language you use to conduct business.

I think it also depends if you want to feed into the Asian fetish stuff (no judgment) or lean away from all of that.

From what I know, there are some Asians working at strip clubs in Vancouver, but they're the minority. The ones I know of tend to be curvy, tan, and tattooed, although there may very well be girls with a similar look to me who don't have stripper Instagram accounts. I'm very slim with small boobs, have pale skin, and don't have a lot of tattoos. I think I *could* possibly do some Asian fetish stuff, but I've been working as an escort for a while and already have a niche that I do well in. I do a lot of school girl fetish stuff as well as age fetish stuff, and actually have braces on at the moment. Getting braces cost me a ton of money, so I'm trying to make as much money off of that as possible. I'm also really young (I'll be 20 years old in a couple weeks) and not tall, so I can definitely carry the same look over to stripping.
I speak Chinese fluently and I'm basically like a native speaker, which can appeal to guys from China for sure, but I don't know if it would be really relevant with other customers. I've also always advertised myself as a provider who was born and raised in Canada. The problem, however, with my niche in escorting, is that I'll eventually have to rebrand after a few more years. I'm trying to decide whether to stick to what I already know and try to make it work at a strip club, or to just try something new altogether.

Honestly, my privacy is something that I'm a bit worried about if I get into an agency, because a background check might be able to find my work history there. Also, my face is inevitably going to be shown in advertisements if I work for an agency. For that reason, I think I'll probably stick to clubs that aren't agency based or clubs where I have the option to work as a free lancer. I'm studying in university at the moment and after I get my degree, I plan to apply to the medical radiography diploma program. An x-ray tech probably won't be under as much scrutiny when looking for a job as, let's say, a doctor. However, it's still a healthcare job that's heavy on interaction with patients, and I don't want to ruin my chances.
I'm an escort and want to take a break from it to try something new, even if I know that dancing isn't nearly as lucrative as escorting in Vancouver. I invest most of my money and pay taxes on it, and my end goal is to eventually have a normal job that pays decently well, with income from investments coming in. Maybe I'll change my mind about wanting a "normal" career, but I don't want to be doing anything that has a substantial risk of hurting my chances of that just yet.

I feel like having a novelty name would be kind of a double edged sword. It can be really memorable for customers and also help me build my own brand, but it may not appeal to certain crowds. I've been working for a while as an escort and most of my clients are middle aged guys who tend to be fairly vanilla. I've been doing well, so I'm reluctant to change the way I market myself.
Re: Tips on choosing a good stage name
You're Asian. Why not use the nickname "Sakura," "Megumi," "Mei-Li?"
Once had an Asian co-stripper whom went by "Kitana." She always tell customers, when introducing herself, "My name is Kitana, like the one in Mortal Kombat." :D
