Re: 2nd Mass Shooting In A Week
Yeah, just watched the press conference on it. The killer was 21 years old! So was the last one! WTF is happening to the younger generation?
This one seems to be an Arab by his name, Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa, i wonder how much shit this is gonna cause Arab Americans, considering how stupid people can be.
-
Re: 2nd Mass Shooting In A Week
Let's wait and see. The media is too cowed to say it yet but it MIGHT be a terrorist attack.

I can't wait to hear what Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib have to say.
And if not terrorist then it was probably the result of untreated mental illness. Lockdowns of over a year do not help with mental health. They compound social isolation and alienation.

ALL mass shootings are terrorist attacks.

Yeah, the news said he had something up in his head. It's too early to really tell, though. As far as it being a Terrorist attack, don't they usually express something? Make demands or something? This is damned peculiar. I suppose it could be, but we have to wait for now.

There were plenty of mass shootings happening before there were any lockdowns. I think the number has actually decreased. I think this is the first one since lockdowns started.

Re: 2nd Mass Shooting In A Week
Um, Atlanta? Two in less than a week. No offense.
But you're right, mass shootings are not a new phenomenon.

According to Newsweek citing figures from Gun Violence Archive :
2014- 269 mass shootings
2015- 335
2016-382
2017-346 ( Trump took office btw )
2018-337
2019-417
2020-562 ( Lockdowns went into effect )
Prior to the lockdowns there was defunding of the police and other policies that promoted crime. Chicago and a few other major cities have had numerous instances of 3 or more people getting shot at the same time time by the same shooter or shooters. That MIGHT serve to skew the numbers. I haven't got the time the time for a deeper dive into the stats.
We are already hearing the usual kneejerk calls for gun control. If gun control worked then N.Y. , D.C. and Chicago would be among our safest cities.
Mexico would have very little gun crime as they have very strict gun laws.
I WILL say that civilian possession of weapons like AR-15's is hard to justify. Difficult, not impossible. The wounds created by such weapons are just horrendous. I know ten people died in Boulder. Were there any wounded who survived ?

That includes gang on gang shootouts in Chicago and L.A. too, right ?

Re: 2nd Mass Shooting In A Week
OK, so far this doesn't look like Terrorism. If it was a Terrorism investigation, this would be handled federally, but it's not. It's being handled locally. Now, it could morph into something else, but as it stands it doesn't look like it. I could be totally wrong, however, we just don't know enough yet.

Yes. If one goes around terrorizing multiple innocent people then they are a terrorist.
This goes for serial killers, spree killers, mass killers etc. (And rapists)

Terrorism is violence against civilians, but I think you already know that.

I can't believe I forgot about the Atlanta shooting. I'm not sure what determines what is considered a mass shooting, but according to this website, there were two in 2020:
https://www.statista.com/statistics/...ngs-in-the-us/
New York City is one of the safest, or safest big city in the US. Most of the guns in Mexico used in gun crimes are illegally smuggled into Mexico from the US. Most of the guns used in Chicago crimes come from out of state:
https://www.nbcchicago.com/news/nati...rt-2017/27140/
Gun restrictions aren't very effective if you can just go to a nearby state and purchase one, or if you can easily smuggle them across the border from another country.

Re: 2nd Mass Shooting In A Week
^i believe it’s if a person kills more than 3 people in a short period of time.
Edit - according to Wikipedia (take it with a grain of salt) a mass shooting is 3 or more people injured and/or dead

Yeah, it's easy to do. With a brand new one front and center it kind of takes over. I wouldn't worry about it. What kills me is that both shooters were in their early 20's. They're now gonna both get 400 years in prison, to get out they're going to have to be pardoned eight and ten times (which is never going to happen, political suicide and all). These guys are FUCKED. One guy insists that he has a sex addiction (Which I don't believe for a second, go home and jerk off buddy, porn is free), and this one in Boulder we don't know yet but I'm sure it's something stupid. I just don't get these guys. Throw your entire life away when you're so young...

I mean I know that there’s way more good in the world, but this highlights the worst of humanity. What’s wrong with people?

The FBI is very involved in the investigation.

The point is that CRIMINALS ALWAYS manage to get their hands on guns. Whether they are smuggled in from another state or country or stolen or bought legally.
NYC used to be the nation's safest big city. NOT under Dum Dum DeBlasio. Crime is up in all categories especially in gun violence.

It's not that hard. Both have SERIOUS mental health issues. One drank the fundamentalist Kool-Aid from the local Christers and thought he was going to Hell and eternal damnation for liking girls and going to massage parlors. The other, according to his own brother , was seriously paranoid and anti-social.

Yeah, but they're not taking the lead. Yet. If it was terrorism, we'll know soon, but we haven't been given that info yet. *shrug*

So far as we know, but we need to know more before we jump to conclusions about motivations. One of them appears to have been a religious fanatic, but he could be just downplaying his real motivations (he could just be an Incel with Yellow Feaver) and we don't know shit about the other shooter. So it's all up in the air. You got a sex addiction then just don't go to a message parlor. The Boulder guy just seems like a nut at this point. I mean thus far we don't know what connection he had to that grocery store, if any.
But, at any rate, I just don't know yet and all i'm saying is to just let the investigators work.

No they don't. Gun restrictions make it much more difficult for criminals to obtain guns if there aren't any places nearby, where criminals can obtain guns legally. In Australia there was a dramatic decline in gun deaths after their government passed new restrictions on owning guns, that made it much more difficult for criminals to obtain one.

Crime has gone up in New York City from 2019 to 2020, but is still much lower than it's been in the past. There were approximately 450 murders in NYC last year. In 1990, there were approximately 2,200.
