Just got the OK to get Vaccinated
April 20th, that's my date. Oddly enough that's not only Hitler's Birthday, but the anniversary of the Columbine Massacre, as far as Omens go that's not a good one. But whatever. Not sure which one I'll get, Phizer, Moderna, J&J, who cares. I just want this shit to be over.
Anyone else get the notification? It's supposed to be out for everyone by the 19th. Sign up if you haven't, and after that check your email.

Re: Just got the OK to get Vaccinated
Oh, and I'd sign up for it at as many Hospitals as you can.
-
Re: Just got the OK to get Vaccinated
Oh, and one last thing, It'll take about ten days for you to be fully vaccinated, so you're going to have to keep that stupid (Glasses fogging) mask on for a week and a half. Annoying, I know, but necessary.
-
Re: Just got the OK to get Vaccinated
For Pfizer and Moderna, you have to get a second shot after 3 - 4 weeks. You should find out which one you're getting, and if you're getting Pfizer or Moderna, you should sign up for a second shot.
-
Re: Just got the OK to get Vaccinated
Apparently Johnson & Johnson is shut down now. Blood clots in like one in a million folks. Hopefully this doesn't fuck up my vaccination, but we'll see.

Re: Just got the OK to get Vaccinated
Just found out, It's Phizer. Every time I go to the Doctor it's like I'm a DARTBOARD!
-
Re: Just got the OK to get Vaccinated
They have been taking walk ins and doing house calls here for a couple of weeks.
The emergency management coordinator goes on the radio encouraging people to go in, and has challenged someone to come on horseback.
-
Re: Just got the OK to get Vaccinated
I am now Vaccinated (at least with the first shot, my second is on May eleventh). The lady was like "This might sting a little bit" and I'm like "You clearly don't know whom you're dealing with." Like I said before, every time I go to the Doctor it's like they're throwing darts at me.

Don't ever get a 2-hour tattoo then (I got one). :P
I remember getting a physical for a daycare job, and I was NOT expecting them to give me a Tetanus shot at that particular appointment. Damn thing had my arm sore for four days. Lol.

Re: Just got the OK to get Vaccinated
Btw just a heads up! Youre not fully vaxxed until 2 weeks AFTER your 2nd shot.

Yeah, I know, it means a little more mask wearing (which fogs up my goddamned glasses). But as long as it gets this nonsense over with, I'm good with it.

I actually have gotten a two hour Tattoo. Or close to it. I actually found it to be relaxing. Never have been scared of Needles.

IF you use medical tape or a band-aid at the top of your mask to attach it to your nose, it won't fog up your glasses. You'll probably have to continue wearing your mask in stores that mandate it.

Ok. Your earlier comment about it feeling like "they're throwing darts at you at the doctor's office" implied that you hate getting stuck.

Oh, make no mistake, I do hate getting stuck. No doubt about it. I just know it's what's good for me so I just grit my teeth and do it.

Re: Just got the OK to get Vaccinated
The university my son is entering this fall is requiring the students and staff to get the COVID vaccine. My son isn't thrilled about it, but I told him "I tell you what. I'll schedule one for me as well, and I'll schedule it so that you can watch me go first...and then yours will be right after. Mine is this Sunday at 12:55 PM, and his is at 1:10 PM. Also have our second doses scheduled for May. Mine first, followed by his.
And we're getting Pfizer. My son said that if he must get it, he'd like it to be Pfizer (He DOES NOT want Johnson & Johnson).

Wow, so now the vaccine is mandatory in some cases!

Honestly it needs to be. This shit has killed a half million people. Try being one of THEIR loved ones. I did it and it wasn't that big of a deal, I barely felt it. Most stores won't even let you in there unless you have a mask on, so something is already mandatory.
Not bitching at you Luci Fer, just clarifying.

I disagree. Masks and gloves, social distancing and covid tests are reasonable. I am fine with it, and if needed I will do it.
But it is not right to require people to get barely tested substance in their blood. They invented it in a great rush, mostly for money of course, since it's highly demanded. Some people have died from it in Europe.
I still remember how they stated the vaccine should be tested for at least 3-5 years before using it on people. Looks like they completely forgot their own statements by now.
I think people just want to stop wearing masks and need their comforts they used to have before the pandemic, that's why they are ready to get vaccinated.
I don't care if others get vaccinated. Everyone should have freedom of choice.
I am just surprised by the fact some institutions require it now. This is wrong. People are not some pigs who can't control their own behavior in society.

The Vaccine got made lightening fast because we have better technology now than we had in 1918 (or whenever the Spanish flu was).
Again, I'm not arguing with you, just stating my position.

Re: Just got the OK to get Vaccinated
I think that at some point, reality has to take hold. With just 40% of adults vaccinated and vaccine demand already slowing a lot, it's not realistic to peg the relaxation of restrictions on vaccination percentages. Just a couple of months ago it was nearly impossible to get an appointment, but here in NE FL now they have way more slots than people to fill them. There are also reports coming in from across the country that demand is drying up and even no appointment drive in sites are becoming ghost towns. It's only going to slow further in the coming weeks.
At some point there has to be an acceptance that herd immunity is simply not going to be achieved through vaccinations. It's been well over a year and vaccines are now readily available to anyone who is at risk. There is little practical reason anymore to continue with these restrictions.
For example, here in FL, there is a growing movement to get mask mandates out of schools. The teachers have all been vaccinated - at least the ones who wanted it - and the children are at virtually zero risk. This never-ending panicked siege mentality is extremely unhealthy for our children and the pediatric mental health system in FL, like in many other states, has been utterly overwhelmed since this started. Enough is enough. It is time to return them to more normal conditions, which the vaccine has made possible by allowing vulnerable people to be protected. I have sat back thus far and allowed it to play out in my kids' schools, but over the Summer I will be among a large group of parents leaning hard on the county school board to make masks voluntary for the 2021-2022 school year.

Mandatory vaccination is not uncommon in schools and universities
meningitis outbreaks in college campus dorms were frequently reported until required vaccination
Chicken pox (which can lead to shingles later in life) outbreaks were also very common in elementary schools until vaccinations were required
there is a list of required vaccines for school aged children and college dorm dwellers because outbreaks happen quickly in these environments
now if you don’t travel and you don’t congregate with the masses then no these things shouldn’t be required.

People can't wear masks while eating in restaurants or other business establishments that serve food and drinks. Students living in close proximity to one another in dorms, can't be expected to wear masks all day and night.

No, the same amount of testing was done with covid vaccines as with any other vaccine. The difference is, with the covid vaccine, all phases were done simultaneously and manufacturing was begun before testing was completed, so vaccines would be available for distribution right away, if the testing was successful. Pharmaceuticals normally don't do this because it is much more costly to do all phases at once, and they stand to lose a lot more money if the tests fail. I don't know of any deaths that have been attributed to the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, and only one has been attributed to the Johnson and Johnson one.

No, many people want to get vaccinated because they don't want to die from covid, and there is nothing wrong with wanting to be able to eat and drink at bars and restaurants without having to worry about catching a potentially deadly virus.

Freedom of choice stops at the point where your choice endangers the lives of others. None of the vaccines are 100% effective, and if more outbreaks occur because not enough people were vaccinated, the lives of people who were vaccinated are endangered too. At one nursing home in KY, 90% of the residents were vaccinated, but approximately half of the staff refused to get the vaccine, and as a result, one of the staff caught the virus which led to an outbreak in the home. Of the 73 residents who were vaccinated, one of them died. Of the 8 residents who weren't vaccinated, two of them died.

Raziel, I did the same:) It was interesting for me to read about your experience, I was just really surprised about mandatory vaccination in TheBrownFox's post. They could offer weekly covid tests or vaccination, for example. *shrugs*
Last year, when the situation was hysterical, I went to post office and there was a queue, they let only 1 person in. People in queue tried to keep distance, but some old dude behind me had his mask on his chin (like in that south park episode lol) and stepped very close to me (as if he was very impatient to get in the post office, idk), so his clothes basically touched mine. I told him to keep distance and all I got was an eye roll and something like 'oh god, why so serious'. I had to step away from him. He did not even move. He was in his 60s or so. 'The risk group' as they call it.
So yes, there are some dumb-behaving persons. If someone doesn't want to save themselves, it's useless to save them. That's why I am for personal choices. You can protect yourself and the others only by protecting yourself.
I loved it when, for example, swedes did it all right last year with their anti covid measures and their covid death rates decreased. People can control it.Maybe it heavily depends on mentality. Chile got almost fully vaccinated, I 've read, and vaccinated people started to neglect masks and distancing and they got more covid cases and more deaths.
But restaurants etc - ofc. It's all business, and it should go on. So vaccination is mostly a business move I think. Just to make things work.
