Re: Just got the OK to get Vaccinated
Anti-vaxxer...virus denier...endless variants...oh me, oh my, oh no! ;)
Look, here's the simple reality: If we get 55% of the population vaccinated by the Fall, it will be a minor miracle. Right now it's about 40% and demand is slowing fast. This despite the PSAs and other exhortations airing for weeks now. Much like the flu vaccine, there will be a significant % of the population who doesn't feel at risk from the virus and doesn't want the vaccine. And like COVID, the flu kills people too each year, usually the most vulnerable.
So we can fixate forever on this quite unrealistic notion that everyone must get vaccinated, fuming about how selfish they are and obsessing over every life lost from COVID, but it won't change anything. At some point we're just going to have to learn to live with COVID the way we do with the flu - the vulnerable get vaccinated and the rest go about their business and take medicine when they get sick.
The good news is that some states are already showing signs of herd immunity as the numbers come down. Keep in mind that most of the unvaccinated are younger people who also had higher historical infection rates, so between vaccinations and natural resistance a solid % of the population already has anti-bodies.

Just a couple of months ago it was nearly impossible to get an appointment, but here in NE FL now they have way more slots than people to fill them. There are also reports coming in from across the country that demand is drying up and even no appointment drive in sites are becoming ghost towns. It's only going to slow further in the coming weeks.
At some point there has to be an acceptance that herd immunity is simply not going to be achieved through vaccinations. It's been well over a year and vaccines are now readily available to anyone who is at risk. There is little practical reason anymore to continue with these restrictions.
For example, here in FL, there is a growing movement to get mask mandates out of schools. The teachers have all been vaccinated - at least the ones who wanted it - and the children are at virtually zero risk. This never-ending panicked siege mentality is extremely unhealthy for our children and the pediatric mental health system in FL, like in many other states, has been utterly overwhelmed since this started. Enough is enough. It is time to return them to more normal conditions, which the vaccine has made possible by allowing vulnerable people to be protected. I have sat back thus far and allowed it to play out in my kids' schools, but over the Summer I will be among a large group of parents leaning hard on the county school board to make masks voluntary for the 2021-2022 school year.
I canÂ’t bear labels , anti vax , blah blah we are all human and all want the same thing! For everyone to be happy and healthy. I grew up in a household of hippies so my parents kind of instilled into me donÂ’t follow the establishment so for reasons of my own I wonÂ’t have the vax nor be forced into it. People died for me to enjoy the freedoms I enjoy today , I donÂ’t take the lightly. I get I am in the minority and thatÂ’s ok , I send love to everyone but I wonÂ’t follow rules that donÂ’t make sense x

Anyway, we just got back from getting our first doses of the Pfizer shot. Feels no different than the Depo birth control shot, tbh. Quick and easy. And I'm happy that they let my son come in with me to watch me do mine first.

Most people will because most people will go by the facts rather than conspiracy theories.

how unfortunate that the so called conspiracy theories of past are now facts and of course because I don’t go along with the narrative I’m a conspiracy theorist ... yet another label

Re: Just got the OK to get Vaccinated
I too was raised by hippies, thankfully my family worked mostly in the medical field.
I have largely ignored this thread because I don’t want to attack my fellow sws. I am struggling with my own friends who are anti vaccine and it is incredibly difficult. There is however dangerous disinformation being spread.
The vaccine was out faster because those in power wanted it to be. Money made this happen. You should ask yourself why vaccines take sso long normally.
Schools have been requiring vaccinations without religious exemptions for years, it is only till recently that people who have never seen the horrors of the diseases we vaccinate against, have increased the number of exemptions.
We live in a society. There will be no chance of heard immunity without the vaccine.
I am not attempting to belittle or attack anyone personally. You are allowed whatever personal beliefs you choose, but you are spreading these ideas on a public forum, so that defense is a little weak once you start trying to influence others.

Re: Just got the OK to get Vaccinated
Over 225 million doses of the vaccine have been given, and so far there have been zero deaths attributed to the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, and one attributed to the Johnson and Johnson version. How much more evidence do you need that the vaccines are safe? You're more likely to die from taking an aspirin than getting a covid vaccine shot.

Over 50% of adults have received at least one dose, and the vaccine is not available to anyone under 16. The vaccine has only been made available to all adults a few days ago, so I expect we'll at least have a lot more than 55% of adults vaccinated by fall.

Well a lot of people are following it because they’re not being given much of a choice (by their employer...university...etc.). Shouldn’t fault them for that. As much as it sucks...we wanna get back to the FULL college experience...IN PERSON. Screw this virtual class b.s. Also people wanna be able to keep their jobs.
If you choose to get it or not get it is your prerogative. You’ve gotta do what’s best for you and your situation. And this whole thing where people on the internet/social media are calling other people “selfish” and “idiots” for NOT getting it...that shit’s just obnoxious. Lol.

I agree hun, this certainly has not brought the best out in some people. Thank you for your post beautiful xx

First off, I like you a lot. Just want to preface this with that.
How are they not idiots? If you don't get the Vaccine you need to stand six feet away from me and wear a mask. Half these people refuse to mask up, thus risking MY life (and the life of my Daughter). That bothers me. I have the right to live without Typhoid Mary standing next to me.
I did it, and it wasn't that big of a deal. No soreness in my arm, nothing.

Whether you think they're "idiots" or not, the fact is there are gonna be people who choose to not get it...for various reasons that you may not be aware of. And many of them will still wear their masks and practice social distancing. You have no way of knowing whether or not the person you're standing next to did get the vaccine or didn't (Unless they've got their vaccine card attached to their forehead...lol). All that you know is if that person is or isn't wearing a mask.....
You got your vaccine...I got mine (Well, my first dose so far). Cool beans. But I'm not gonna sit here and act like I'm BETTER THAN everyone who didn't.
Also, if you do see someone in a store/in a public establishment without their mask, most likely someone in that store (Another customer or the cashier or security guard) is gonna say something to them if you haven't already. If they don't comply, they'll have to leave. Even though by then, they may have already sneezed and coughed on a whole bunch of shit in the store. So yeah, I totally get being frustrated about seeing people with NO MASKS.
I'm not interested in going back and forth with you over something as silly as you calling people "idiots." Lol. You've probably just called a bunch of the people reading this thread "idiots," but okay.

Re: Just got the OK to get Vaccinated
Well, I think if you don't get the vaccine, it's stupid. It's FREE! If you don't get it, stay the living fuck away from me. Sorry. I care about my kid, and not just in the store.
Not arguing with you, just stating my opinion.
ETA: I'm also not saying you don't care about your kid. Just talking about me. Your opinion is worth just as much as mine.

Other people in this thread are stating their opinion too. You keep saying you're "not arguing with them," but it kinda sounds like you are...like you need to have the last word and keep repeating yourself? I'm not sure how many times you need to repeat yourself that you think people are idiots...who need to stay away from you. We get the point. Get a t-shirt made that says "Stay away from me if you didn't get the COVID vaccine!" then. :P
Considering that my son and I both got our first doses of Pfizer today, that would have been pretty stupid and bizarre if you HAD made the assumption that I "didn't care about my kid." :P

In a KY nursing home, three residents died from a covid outbreak because half the staff refused to get vaccinated. How is that not being selfish?

I like how you added that tidbit of info to the conversation, and worded your post to imply that I would side with the unvaccinated staff who are working with the elderly/most vulnerable. Nice try.....
If you're not going to get the COVID vaccine, don't stay at a job where you're in direct contact with the elderly/most vulnerable on a daily basis. Lots of work from home jobs these days.
So...back to this nursing home in KY...did the nursing home make it mandatory to get the vaccine or not? Half the staff refused and were able to still keep their jobs? Or were they terminated...quit?
And this surprises me, actually...if they were able to refuse and still keep their jobs. My mom works in a nursing home, and it's MANDATORY for the staff to get the vaccine...and she got hers. She told me that some employees refused, but I have no idea if they quit...were terminated...or if they're still working there? But now I'm curious, so I just sent her a text asking her.

Re: Just got the OK to get Vaccinated
I'm dying here. I want to say something but I don't want to get TheBrownFox pissed off at me. She's already mad enough. I have ENOUGH Dancers mad at me. Just this, do you know that this particular Nursing Home did that? Sometimes they don't. Sometimes they don't care about their residents. Only money.

Go ahead and say what you wanna say to me. I'm not gonna get pissed...unless people in this thread decide they wanna put words in my mouth. Lol. Also I'm not a dancer. :)
I don't understand what you're asking me (about the nursing home)? Eagle is the one telling me about a nursing home in KY.
-
Re: Just got the OK to get Vaccinated
Yeah, but i don't know shit about the Nursing Home, let's let Eagle tell it.
And I wasn't going to say anything TO YOU, i was just gonna say it, but I thought you might think it was to you. So I'll just keep it to myself. It's not a big deal.

That's what I'm saying. He brought it up, so now I wanna hear what ended up happening with the staff who refused the vaccine? Are they still working there? And the nursing home didn't make the vaccine MANDATORY in the first place...or have they since this tragic incident?
And I'm not sure what gave you the impression that I'm "mad." I mean, I have a low-grade fever...but I'm chillin' and dancing to "Caribbean Queen" right now. Lol.
